Gerakan tersebut berlanjut agar gaung lebih luas di sektor pemerintahan, maka pada Mei 2008 gerakan IGOS kembali didengungkan untuk kali kedua oleh 18 instansi pemerintah.
Pemerintah sebagai pelayanan publik Surat edaran dari Kementerian Riset dan Tekhnologi dan Kementerian Pemberdayaan Aparatur Negara kepada seluruh pimpinan pemerintah daerah di Indonesia pada April 2009 membantu percepatan penggunaan perangkat lunak open source di lingkungan pemerintah..
