An effort OF Kids, BY kids, FOR Kids!.
KfK is unique in being an organization that works with kids, for kids…with children Launched in 1997, KIDS FOR KIDS comprises a group of kids, who raise funds in various ways for changing lives of children from underprivileged homes in many many ways..
.
It all began when a group of concerned parents, decided to gently nudge their kids to move from the modern-day “I WANT” syndrome to the more generous “I WANT TO GIVE” spirit.
It has been deeply gratifying to notice the changes in attitude that have pervaded the mindscapes of our children over these past years as a result of their involvement in various KfK programs..
Today KfK is a registered trust with four full time mothers, and twenty- six children who get together several times a year.
The participation of all the children in these programs has created in them an awareness and gratitude for the abundance they have been blessed with; a sensitivity to the needs of those living in comparative deprivation; an awareness that joy and happiness can coexist even with the most abject poverty – that happiness comes from within, and, most of all, a feeling of empowerment, a knowledge that they can give of themselves, to tangibly change the quality of lives of other children..

In the last sixteen years funds have been raised by our children through activities like making gift tags by recycling old greeting cards, wrapping papers decorated and embellished with sequins, cut outs, blotting paper to create abstract designs, blank cards and envelopes embellished with aluminum foil, etc.
wall and desk calendars using the children’s handiwork (an activity that we have done over the last 10 years); hand-made gift bags, glass paintings, pot pourri sachets, block printed towels, t-shirts and terrariums and an annual jumble sale..

The children themselves sell all these items they have created, at events such as the annual Lajpat Bhawan Mela, Ankur Mela, Blind School Mela, Shri Ram School Open Days/Melas and Annual bake sales at the house of a KfK member etc..

KfK organised a Run for Gujarat in 2000, flagged off by the then President of India - Shri K R Narayanan.
All our kids and hundreds more participated in this run to raise money for the earthquake-affected people of Gujarat.

The group has also put up stage productions (five in all) over the years in which the KfK children as well as their friends have performed on stage.
These plays which were directed by eminent directors have helped us raise funds..

Every year, the KfK children are also involved in creating a calendar.
There is a theme chosen and the children create pictures using this particular theme.
Over the years we have developed a strong pool of buyers who believe in the work we do and who look forward to placing large orders for our calendars.
This is also a major contributor to our fund raising activities..

The funds raised are then used for various charitable programs..

1. To run three slum schools with the Servants of the People Society.
We take care of the education, nutrition, immunization, uniform, teachers’ salaries, and entertainment programs like magic shows, annual picnic, celebrating various festivals, etc.
All KfK children are involved in these interactions.

2. An annual lunch and entertainment program at one of our members’ homes for all the senior citizens from Dwarka, an occasion they have come to look forward to eagerly along with the children from the slum schools.
KfK believes childhood and old age are two sides of the same coin..

3. Medicines and INR 200,000 to the riot affected in Gujarat.
.
4. INR 200,000 to assist victims of the Tsunami.
.
5. In addition to the above activities, KfK has in the past helped children with hearing disabilities through cochlear implant procedure.
We have also contributed to improving the lives of kids with thalassemia & HIV in an orphanage in Kolkata (ISSA) and aided a heart operation of a young child in Delhi.
It is our endeavor to continue to reach out to children from underprivileged backgrounds who need major medical assistance/ operations/ srurgeries.
We are now focusing our efforts at helping more children with hearing disabilities..

Shalabh Sharma – a leading ENT Specialist and Surgeon at Sir Gangaram Hospital, New Delhi.
Dr.
Sharma performs the cochlear implant surgery free of charge and is highly committed to helping more kids step out of a silent world and lead a normal healthy life.

On Jan 26th 2013 the "Kids for Kids" group got together at.

interact with Dr.
Shalabh Sharma(an eminent ENT surgeon) and the little 3year old boy who he operated on last year....
This surgery was funded in a large measure by money earned by the children in the KfK.
group(aged 11-20)The boy who was hearing and speech impaired is now leading a normal life thanks to this cochlear implant.
He and his parents (father is an auto rickshaw driver) had expressed a keenness to meet us.
Dr Sharma who performed the operation free of any charge, facilitated this meeting.
The whole hearted participation by all the kfk members and their families with the Doctor, the little boy and his sister and parents, was truly a memorable and enriching experience..
