È alimentato da torrente Droanello e dalla galleria artificiale che raccoglie le acque del torrente San Michele nel comune di Tremosine sul Garda.DescrizioneIl Monte Palotto e il Monte Fassane limitano il lago a nord mentre a sud ci sono il Monte Pracalvis, il Monte Alberelli e il Monte Albereletti .
Il lago è situato parte nel cuore della riserva naturale Gardesana Occidentale e parte nel Parco regionale dell'Alto Garda Bresciano, il paesaggio è incontaminato, una fitta foresta fornisce l'habitat per la fauna selvatica composta da cervi, caprioli e mufloni.Nella Valle di Vesta, raggiungibile solo a piedi o in barca, vi è la presenza di alcune grotte e fino agli anni '50 del secolo scorso il legname copioso ivi presente era sfruttato dai carbonai della Val Vestino per la produzione del carbone vegetale.
