A persistência da servidora municipal Renate Klein fez com que o órgão se estruturasse minimamente e iniciou suas atividades junto à Prefeitura Municipal, porém, não encontrando o apoio necessário para colocar em prática seus projetos, solicitou transferência de endereço e passou a funcionar num espaço cedido pelo Corpo de Bombeiros Militar local, onde também pôde contar com o apoio operacional daquela instituição..

Após os eventos de 2008, mais especificamente no ano de 2009 é que o governo municipal exigiu que se criasse uma Defesa Civil no município e a comunidade brusquense pôde finalmente contar com uma Defesa Civil forte e atuante..

Desde então o órgão funciona no atual endereço e atua de forma integrada com a comunidade focando seus esforços na prevenção e preparação de seus integrantes e da comunidade, atuando através dos Núcleos Comunitários de Proteção e Defesa Civil – NUPDECs - nas localidades mais susceptíveis a desastres naturais, além dos projetos desenvolvidos junto a Secretaria de Educação, empresas e entidades..

Importante ressaltar a recente criação da Lei Municipal nº 3.686 de 19 de Dezembro de 2013, que Cria o Sistema Municipal de Proteção e Defesa Civil (SIMPDEC), a Coordenadoria Municipal de Proteção e Defesa Civil (COMPDEC), o Conselho Municipal de Proteção e Defesa Civil (CONMPDEC), o Fundo Municipal de Proteção e Defesa Civil (FUMPDEC), e o Grupo Integrado de Ações Coordenadas (GRAC) no Município de Brusque – SC, e dá outras providências, fortalecendo e dando embasamento legal para as ações de Proteção e Defesa Civil em nosso município..

Atualmente conta com 17 colaboradores, sendo que 09 (nove) Agentes de Defesa Civil atuam junto ao Corpo de Bombeiros 24 (vinte e quatro) horas por dia no atendimento das mais diversas ocorrências e dando atenção emergencial a toda a comunidade todos os dias do ano..
