Das RATA – Grenzgang über die Alpen .
.
Seit der Jahrtausendwende steht der Begriff RATA für Extremradsport in Nauders.
Vom ehemals erfolgreichen Organisator des Dreiländergiros Max Wassermann zusammen mit Othmar Peer und Franz Venier ins Leben gerufen, erlebte dieser Event im Jahr 2000 seine Feuertaufe.
Tirols bekannter Extremsportler Franz Venier , Inhaber zahlreicher Rekorde fungierte als Testperson, wollte zeigen, dass es möglich ist innerhalb von 32 Stunden 11 Berge der Horse Kategorie mit über 13.000 Höhenmetern zu meistern.
Vom ORF dokumentiert kam der Langstreckenstar nie ins Straucheln, und daher schon nach 27 Stunden relativ relaxed ins Ziel.
Also, es war möglich und im Jahr darauf erlebte das Race across the alps seine Premiere.
Und was für eine.
Gleich beim ersten Mal setzte sich kein Langstreckenstar an die Spitze, sondern mit dem späteren 2-fachen Österreichrundfahrtsieger Gerrit Glomser aus Salzburg ein erfolgreicher Radprofi, der gerade aus der Tour de Suisse kam.
Regen, Schnee und Stürme begleiteten die gut 30 Auserwählten über die Alpen.
2002 u.
2006 siegte Österreichs Marathonkönig Paul Lindner – pikanterweise auch ein Salzburger.
Auch er und seine Mitstreiter mussten sich durch alle Wettervarianten schlagen, die man sich nur vorstellen kann.
In der Zwischenzeit erlangte das RATA durch breitgestreute TV- und Medienpräsenz (das Radmagazin TOUR brachte zur Premiere allein einen 7 Seiten Bericht – RTL sendete live und über 40 Frensehstationen übernahmen die Bilder des Broadcasters ) eine nie erwartete Popularität.
So kamen dann in der Folge auch weitere Topstars zu diesem Ausdauerevent der Extraklasse.
Die RAAM-Sieger Wolfgang Fasching (AUT), Jure Robic (SLO) oder Andrea Clavadetscher (FL) gaben sich ebenso die Ehre wie Marko Baloh (SLO), Herbert Meneweger (AUT), Franz Venier (AUT) oder der Sieger von 2003 u.
2008/2009/ 2010 Maurizio Vandelli aus Italien – ein Radprofi der u.a.
auch schon die Österreich-Rundfahrt gewinnen konnte.
2004 siegte dann der junge österreichische Newcomer Valentin Zeller und 2005 ging der Sieg an den Schweizer Daniel Wyss.
2007 hat dieses Rennen einen neuen Sieger Fischer Rene aus Zell am See.
Der Hauptgrund für die Begeisterung und dem Mythos Race across the alps sind wohl die Namen der aneinandergereihten Bergriesen die schon beim Giro und bei der Tour de Suisse Radsportgeschichte geschrieben haben.
Stilfserjoch, Gaviapaß, Mortirolo, die Skistation Aprica stehen für Leiden, Dramen und Erfolgsstorys beim Giro d`Italia – der Bernina, Albula, Flüela, Ofen und Umbrailpaß dagegen steht für Schweizer Radsportgeschichte.
Und das in Summe – aufgeteilt auf die 3 Alpenländer Österreich, Italien und die Schweiz steht für das RATA- an dem sich bis jetzt 292 Herren und 6 Damen versucht haben.
Ja, richtig, mit der Australierin Cassie Lowe wagte sich auch eine langstreckenerprobte Dame an dieses Abenteuer und gab unumwunden zu, dass sie dieser Event an die Leistungsgrenze und manchmal darüber hinaus getrieben hat, wie all jene, die schon dabei waren oder sich das in Zukunft auch noch antun wollen.
Der aktuelle rührige Organisator Gernot Weinig und sein Team versuchen auch in Zukunft für die Teilnehmer und für Nauders diesen einmaligen Event zu erhalten.
Und auch das ist vom Aufwand und der Belastung oft mehr als ein Grenzgang.

Jeder Teilnehmer darf nur ein Begleitfahrzeug mit mindestens 2 Betreuern inklusive Fahrer melden.
Es wird empfohlen, Ersatzbetreuer zu verpflichten, damit es dann im Ernstfall zu keinen personellen Engpässen kommt.

Windschattenfahren hinter Autos oder Verkehrsübertretungen werden mit Zeitstrafen oder im Wiederholungsfall mit Ausschluss bestraft.
Hingegen gibt es bei Windschattenfahren hinter Konkurrenten aufgrund der selektiven Topographie keine Bedenken.
In der Nacht ist eine funktionierende Beleuchtung am Rad vorgeschrieben.

Since turn of the millennium the conception rata stands for extreme cycling in Nauders.
Mr.
Max Wassermann who was the former successful promoter of the 3-countries-giro brought rata into being together with Mr.
Othmar Peer and Mr.
Franz Venier.

This event experienced its baptism by fire in the year 2000.
Mr.
Franz Venier who is a well known Tyrolean extreme athlete and holder of numerous records acted as a subject and he wanted to show that it is possible to master 11 mountains of the horse category with over 13,000 metres in altitude within 32 hours.

Documented by television station ORF the long haul star never faltered and therefore he reached the finish relatively relaxed after 27 hours.
It was also possible and one year later the race across the alps experienced its premiere.
What a premiere! At the first go no long haul star gained the top but the successful pro cyclist Mr.
Gerrit Glomser from Salzburg, the later double winner of the Austrian tour who just came directly from the tour de Suisse.
Rain, snow and storms accompanied the 30 favoured few across the alps.

2006 Mr.
Paul Lindner who was the Austrian king of marathon and ironically from Salzburg won.
Also he and his comrades-in-arms had to scratch along all variants of weather you can imagine.
In the meantime RATA obtained a never expected popularity by widely spread TV and media presence (the cycle magazine TOUR showed a seven-sided review at the premiere - the television station RTL broadcasted live and over 40 other television stations adopted the pictures of the broadcaster).
As a result further top stars went to this enduringness event of the extra class.
