Il Santuario francescano di Santa Maria delle Grazie in Ponticelli di Scandriglia (Rieti) fu costruito dagli Orsini al centro delle loro terre in Sabina nel 1478 per grazia ricevuta.
Fu donato al beato Amedeo Menezes de Silva, un francescano che a capo del movimento amadeita si era fatto interprete di una riforma basata sulla rigidità della Regola.
Questo movimento presente in Italia centrale e settentrionale si concentrava su un accentuato culto mariano, sulla predicazione ed eremitaggio (ancora oggi si può visitare il suo romitorio).
Il periodo amadeita è la prima fase storica del Santuario a cui segue quella dei riformati guidati dal beato Bonaventura da Barcellona (1620-84) che pose le basi del ritiro (1662) e del noviziato (1669).
