The history of the department is closely connected with the history of the college itself.
Started in 1967 with Pre-degree course, the department has now grown into a Postgraduate and Research department (offering two undergraduate and one P.G programme), having a sanctioned strength of 12 faculty members and about 300 students including 29 research scholars.
Ten scholars have successfully completed PhD from the department in the last five years.
The department has been widely recognized as centre of learning commerce that enables students to develop right perspectives about various areas under Commerce discipline.
The department through its impressive academic legacy has carved a niche for itself on account of its faculty manned by a rich mix of experience and youth, library with a vast array of books and journals, innovative curriculum and above all students with a high degree of motivation and interest to study Commerce.
The Department has always attempted at imparting most competitive professional training to its students anticipating covetable academic achievements and excellent career prospects in life.
Considering this, the department started an Add on Course in Theoretical and Practical Banking with the financial support of UGC during 2008-09.
The department conducts a comprehensive six months free intensive class room coaching programme for UGC NET for paper I, II and III.
The programme is funded by the scheme of Cluster of Colleges of the Kerala Higher Education Council, Government of Kerala.
The classes are handled by faculty members of the department and external experts.
