The unfinished feel at the end of the book of Acts may be intentional. Luke seems to realize that in Jesus’death, resurrection, and ascension, Jesus has filled out the Old Testament portrait of Messiah (Luke24:25-27) and has inaugurated his glorious kingdom. The story clearly shows how the Kingdom of God isadvancing through the church and how the church is ultimately made up of people from every nation(see Revelation 5:9).
In this way, the story that God is writing in your life becomes a part of the story of Scripture. God’s planincluded reaching you, wherever you are. Have you ever considered how your life might reflect theongoing story of God’s kingdom? What difference would it make in your life if you did? As a follower ofJesus by faith, seeing your story reflected in Scripture gives you a new identity (2 Corinthians 5:17;Ephesians 4:24), shapes your heart with new priorities (Matthew 6:33; Mark 10:29-30), and promisesyou a new future (2 Thessalonians 2:13-15; Revelation 21:1-5).
Just like the apostles of old, we are called to be on mission wherever he sends us. Most of us don’t thinkof the place we live as the mission field. . .but it is! Jesus is building his church and extending hiskingdom through you, as you invite his Lordship into where you live, work, and play! Your life plays a vitalpart in what God is doing among the nations, ultimately for the glory of his Son (2 Corinthians 5:18-21;Revelation 15:3-4).
Hopefully, this month in the book of Acts has encouraged and strengthened you in you faith and, tosome degree, equipped you for the kingdom-work God wants to do in and through you (Hebrews13:20-21). You may want to go back through these daily devotionals and look up the Scripture referencesmentioned throughout. Daily study and meditation in the word of God can be life changing! May thesedevotional thoughts be used to that end in your life, as God continues to write a story that won’t be fullyfinished until Jesus returns and history is complete (Revelation 22:20:21).
