Blindness may be our disease. Many Christians familiar with Acts can tell the story of Peter and John and the lame man who was begging at the gate of the Temple. The lame man looked at Peter and John expecting money, but what he got, money can’t buy! By the power of faith in the name of Jesus (Acts 3:16), he was healed for all the crowd at the Temple to see.
What we miss, Peter saw (Acts 3:12) an opportunity to address the crowd and teach them some sound biblical theology. This healing was no formula. It was the work of the author of life (Acts 2:15), a clear assertion that Jesus is equal with God. This crowd should have recognized Jesus as the true Messiah, since their Scriptures the Old Testament clearly speak of the coming Messiah, all the way back to Moses.
Moses, the greatest prophet of the Old Testament, said that one day God would raise up a Prophet, one like Moses, who would have such a high status that to ignore him would be to be cut off from God’s people. Through the Messiah, all the promises of God, all the way back to Abraham, would be fulfilled. These promises are for you! Open your eyes and believe what God has done through Jesus.
Prayer: God of Abraham, you promised to bless all the families of the earth through the one of whom the prophets spoke. I believe their words. I believe in Jesus, and I want to see and know him more!
