Updated: 9:51 AM PDT Apr 16, 2021 KCRA Staff The number of claims still waiting for California's Employment Development Department to act is continuing to grow.The expanding claims come after more than a year of delays, verification problems and fraud found in a series of KCRA 3 investigations.Currently, the department is separating out the number of people waiting stuck in a backlog of more than 21 days, and those the department says are waiting for certification by those claiming unemployment.As of Monday, the number of backlogged claims sits at nearly 122,000 claims. But the number waiting to be certified is more than 910,000 -- bringing the total number of claims in limbo over the million mark again.While the EDD says these are the claims waiting for Californians who filed to certify either their identity or to finish their paperwork, KCRA 3 Investigates continued to get emails and calls from people who say they cannot get through the ID verification system or to EDD itself.This comes after word that more issues with the EDD systems have prevented 178,000 people from filing new claims at the EDD.
