The Lions and quarterback Matthew Stafford have agreed to split and Detroit will explore trade possibilities in the coming weeks, NFL Network reported. The 49ers figure to be among a host of teams to at least inquire about Stafford, who ranks among the top 20 in NFL history in completions (3,898), passing yards (45,109) and touchdown passes (282). Stafford, who turns 33 on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 7, has eight 4,000-yard passing seasons, five more than the 49ers have had in franchise history.
