Canucks sign Luke Schenn and three more depth defencemen The Abbotsford Canucks’ defence is starting to take shape Share this story Photo by Mike Carlson/Getty Images A fan favourite is returning to the Vancouver Canucks. The Canucks have announced a number of depth defenceman signings on the opening of free agency today. The biggest name among the four announced so far is 31-year-old Luke Schenn. The eldest of the Schenn brothers is re-joining the Canucks on a two-year deal with $850,000 per season. Currently, he slots in as the seventh or eighth defenceman on the Canucks depth chart. That’s exactly where a player of Schenn’s calibre belongs. Unfortunately, there’s a good argument that the three other guys ahead of him on the right side (Travis Hamonic, Tyler Myers and Tucker Poolman) aren’t all that much more effective.
