defamation league reports, anti-semitism is up some 400% since the conflict between israel and hamas began kron four's. dan kerman reports. in an instagram post friday. the oakland education association, the union that represents nearly 3,000 oakland teachers posted this. we the members express our unequivocal support for palestinian liberation and self-determination. >> we condemn the genocidal apartheid state of israel for the oakland education association. which again represents thousands of teachers, many of whom are also jewish, who are teaching jewish students to say something that what wasn't just an to israel. it was anti-semitic. like myself about how are children are going to be treated and perceived in their classrooms, making botching the loopy is jewish and has 2 kids attending school in the district shortly after she criticized the post, it was removed only to be replaced by one that says. >> with the oakland education association mourn the tragic loss of both palestinian and israeli lives. these past weeks. but it continues to go on blaming israel for both genocide and apartheid and makes no mention of the hamas attack which ignited the current conflict. there are words in that statement surcharge which attacked the right of israel to even exist. >> would use words like genocide and apartheid and settler state which again are anti-semitic, are saying that, you know, jewish people have no right to be in that place. >> monday, the teachers union stood by the second post. but in a statement said the initial post did not represent the spirit of our original resolution passed by our executive board earlier in the week. what has helped me is that there are a lot of teachers in this >> who have reached out and said they do not support whether they're jewish or not. the oakland unified school district weighed in monday morning issuing a statement saying usd disavows the various polarizing statements on the conflict issued by organizations in usd community this past weekend, though, it failed to call out the teachers union by name or state, which of its comments. the district objected to another failure says bought a gloopy. i think we can either and say that something is anti-semitic. we can say that what hamas did was a terrorist attack without having to say. but this. >> and i think right now and the time the jews are living in america, we have to be very clear where we draw the line when something is anti-semitic. and i wish that the district and and are profoundly. dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> and that comes as israeli forces are pushing deeper into gaza at the u n says it's now fearful airstrikes are hitting close to hospitals. there. overnight flares lit up the skies as troops in tanks advanced towards gaza city. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu says this is now the second stage of the war in casualties on both sides are expected to rise. and there's developing news on the hostage situation. israelis military says one of its soldiers was rescued during its operation in gaza last night. he was captured and taken to gaza by hamas on october, 7th, along with 230 other people. meanwhile, we're learning u.s. citizens stuck in gaza are being told by the u.s. state department to try to cross down into egypt to escape one bay area family says they're 81 year-old grandmother who went back to visit her homeland for the first time in 3 decades. it's stuck there. we're terrified. >> we feel dehumanized. we are confused. we live here just as any other american expecting all the protections and rights of every other american. and we feel abandoned by our very own government. we have elected we pay taxes toward. >> the family is working with an immigration attorney who says while a cruise ship and chartered flights have been helping american citizens leave israel, no evidence of resources has been provided to u.s.. citizens trying to flee gaza. >> the families of the u.s. citizen stuck in gaza. are seeing 0 effort, 0 action. 0 tangible proof that there is any movement being made to get these u.s. citizens out of gaza in a safe manner, just like u.s. citizens in israel, what they >> the state department tells us the last government chartered flight for the foreseeable future leaves tomorrow from israel, which palestinians in gaza cannot reach. they did not mention any specific plans for if or how the u.s. government will help people if they're able to safely cross into egypt from gaza. >> back here at home, an update to a tragic story out of the south bay as police now have a teenager in custody, accused of the hit and run killing of a mother and her unborn child's. 21 year-old glower was killed last tuesday after police say a stolen car ran a red light and crashed into her vehicle. police say the 2 people inside that stolen car ran off. dog lauer died at the hospital. her child's delivered through emergency c section died a day later. a 15 year-old boy has been arrested. police believe he was the driver responsible. >> we're very thankful for everybody that assisted us with this as well as community who had outpouring of support for this tragic loss for this family. again, i'm very thankful for the detective who didn't sleep until this assessment was apprehended. >> lauer's family has set up a gofundme to help pay for her funeral expenses. meantime, police are still looking for the second person who was inside that stolen car with the suspect. anyone with information is asked to call san jose police. >> just today from halloween, some south bay nurses say their working conditions are scary and not good halloween kind of way. some nurses held rallies across santa clara county today and kron four's terisa stasio joins us live from valley medical center in san jose where one of those rallies is just wrapping up. good evening to recent. >> i granted this is one of 3 rallies that are taking place on this day. these nurses saying they if they are having a call to action now spread the word on what they what they want improved throughout the system. the nurses involved in this demonstration work for the santa clara county, how system at a represented by the nurses professional organization. i spoke with several nurses about their pressing concerns days. they say top of the list, they are worried about the patient to nurse ratio stating that patients should have the same quality of care as in private hospitals and workplace violence escalated and feel resources are needed for mental health. plus pay and benefit packages should be more reflective of current market conditions. >> it's not about the money. really. it's more so making sure that we that safeguards to keep yourself safe while we're working and taking care of patients and also a competitive wage so that we can afford to live in the community that we serve. i just want to let the public know to police got there and support your talk to your supervisor is the board of supervisors. let them know that they need to cheat. the commerce is fairly. we need to keep us safe. there's no we're our job where you're expected to keep working when they're being abused. we we are spin-up were forced were assaulted. so things like that are not okay. you don't expect to do that at your job. so why is it ok for u.s., nurses to take care of you when you're sick to have to suffer through >> santa clara county officials sent us a statement, quote, the county of santa clara and our and pa are in the early stages of active labor negotiations. look forward to working collaboratively with our nurses to reach an agreement on a contract that reflects our mutual commitment to supporting our nursing work force delivering excellent care to our patients. nurses held rallies and 2 out their facilities. and they tell me that they are looking forward to going back into negotiations some time and november. i believe that they told me it was like november 13th. you can some nurses are just coming off of duty and they're joining others. certainly a supportive kind of culture out here as use narcisse say that they are doing this call to action lower 70's working in here along the east bay shoreline to 68 for oakland, san francisco coming in at 72 and look at the contrast for temperatures. here we are. we're trailing by a couple degrees. you will notice there by some cases, nearly a half a dozen degrees. that's what dry air will do. and that's the other little point i want to bring out here. the numbers stay low, even though we don't have those big, strong offshore winds tomorrow morning. look at that. that should be loaded with green around the bay is not it remains dry all the way through tuesday and it's going to change in a big way that plays out often in the bay area. >> too often for oakland resident business owner sean sullivan who has had his car broken into 29 times. the inconvenience, the money that you had to spend to replace your car windows it's far too much and it's far too frequent to try to crack down on auto burglaries. the oakland police department decided to try something new, creating instagram annex accounts that users could dm pictures or videos of the crimes happening in real time. ideally giving police details about criminals. the vehicles involved in the crimes location. >> but the social media handle was deactivated within a day. so i don't know why this particular innovation didn't work. i just hope that the city can come up with something the oakland police department says they are conducting a thorough evaluation of the pilot program and that the results will be released to the public once they're finished. councilmember dan kalb says it's too early to speculate. let's see what their what their analysis as and then that will help us determine. >> is it a good idea? is a good idea about a 5 form or is it not productive? the council member has had his own car broken into several times and understands the want for preventable measures. he says the city is working on getting more cameras, fbi investigators, city ambassadors and police officers on foot patrol. and that's what we're focusing on. things that will have a tangible impact. >> to make people actually be safer and not just feel safer but actually be safer, working all those things. >> council member called says, even though the auto theft pilot program is no longer being used on instagram and acts. it's important to remember what police stressed when the program was announced never to get involved. when you see a car break-in or burglary in progress and to keep your distance reporting live in studio, i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> rob, thank you. police have now identified the suspect charged with leading police on a dangerous chase through san francisco and into martinez. police say 42 year-old concord resident, danielle garcia, through 2 improvised explosives at pursuing officers during that chase on sunday. police say it all started in north beach garcia allegedly assaulted someone during an evening mass demanding money before punching a parishioner in the head. witnesses also say garcia had a knife after police arrived. the chase started. >> as the vehicle got up to jones street, we believe that the suspect threw out explosive device at the officers. the officers described not only seeing the flames of the divisive hit the ground, but also the officers could feel the when the bomb detonated. they could feel the the blowback from that in their vehicles. the suspect then threw out a secondary device at the officers. they saw that device go out of the window at a commission. >> the police chase then went on to the freeway where california highway patrol took over later arresting garcia and martinez as the car was carefully inspected by a bomb disposal robot sfpd. investigators also taking that robot along for a search of garcia's home in concord today. >> a delta flight from san jose to salt lake city was diverted to sacramento after reports of engine problems that landed safely and without incident and our cameras were rolling this morning as mechanics appear to be working on the left engine of the plane. the specific problem tonight is still unknown. all eastbound lanes of the dumbarton bridge will be closed at night. this week, a repaving project will begin tonight. it will last until friday. each night the closures will be in effect from 07:00pm. so kind of early until 5 in the morning. caltrans says the goal here is to enhance safety and give motorists that's the general drill. you've got kind of the game plan there with at least a decent amount of sunshine. but we're going to share with some of these clouds are going to thicken up a little bit. >> at around midday before thinning out for the afternoon hours. the golden gate we're checking in here. it looks like conditions, however, remain quite dry. this is what we're talking about. it's basically west to east. so it's not really cold system in not looking for much and they're not looking for anything in terms of rain. but again, it's kind of a nuisance. let's check the visibility real quick for the overnight. not going to see a lot of bay area fog develop. you have a little bit of leftover offshore wind. so having said all that, we're going to go with clear late scattered overnight clouds here with temperatures across the bay. you can see here at 50 49 range and inland, by the way, for the east bay, you're looking at temperatures to hold a little better. a little cooler. looks like in some of the valleys in the north and south bays. however, here's a game. but 44 going on for a little more tonight. 48 san jose. 42 up to santa rosa with 50. meanwhile, 4 san francisco zipping back to those winds. there's a drift or breeze. it's a little offshore. it's anywhere near as intense us from the weekend, but it reinforces the dry air that's here and on this in terms of the cloud cover, this is what i'm talking about. we have the marine layer this well out to sea, scattered clouds aloft as we approach 06:00am here. then we get to the afternoon and we'll start to see some better thinning. we get past the lunch hour, although it looks like they'll be little concentration there right around the peninsula. san francisco in off to portions of the east bay. you have your forecast for tomorrow. still back in the 70's, 72 san francisco to open 74 in san jose coming in at 78. we will a look at what that looks like for your extended forecast in a bit.
