>> welcome back. top story this half-hour as california faces a deadly fentanyl epidemic. governor gavin newsom has signed legislation to create a statewide fentanyl task force on wallace joins us. he spoke with democratic and republican lawmakers who proposed the idea. >> and he has urgent plea for action. well, the democrat and republican came up with this fentanyl task force proposal say they are grateful the governor approved, but they warn without quick and decisive action. >> more lives will be lost. this issue is getting worse, not better. republican senator kelli see speaking candidly about california's fentanyl crisis. according to most recent data from the california department of public health. >> in 2021, more than 6,000 deaths in the state were attributed to fentanyl poisoning. that averages about 115 fentanyl deaths per week. we've got sit down and create a comprehensive plan for california to attack this problem. and he says that will happen after governor gavin newsom signed the bills by cr 2 and democratic assembly member doctor jasmeet bains calling for the creation of a statewide fentanyl task force. it will be made up of experts who respond to the opioid epidemic on a daily basis, including those in the field of law enforcement, health care, legal services, education and drug treatment. the ideas for the task force to meet and ultimately present lawmakers with data and recommendations about how to act baynes herself. a medical doctor from kern county speaking about her own experiences responding to the crisis. i have wept with family members that have lost their children. >> i have what with children, the have lost their parents. this is a crisis that. truly is bipartisan. small doesn't. choose its victim based upon their party preference. fentanyl is here. that's why she ncr to agree. it's a vital the task force get set up as soon as possible. it all comes amid disagreements in the legislature about how to best tackle the issue earlier this year, democrats in the assembly and senate public safety committee is killed bills authored by both republicans and a handful of democrats seeking to increase penalties for fentanyl dealers. now looking ahead, cr to hopes the task force will bring about action and results in the year to calm. the longer we wait, the more victims we have. this is something is exponentially increasing. >> and we just have we have to jump on it soon as possible. >> and this all comes as the governor announced francisco create its own task force investigating opioid deaths there. as for minutes. officials say the cause of the fire is being investigated. we reached out to antioch police to see if there were any arrests or cars impounded. we did not hear back in time for this prayers for the 18 people killed and 13 others injured in the shooting. religious leaders say the community is facing a long healing process ahead. meantime, we are learning police in maine were alerted last month to threats made by robert card. 2 local law enforcement chiefs say a statewide alert was issued back in september after the army reservist allegedly made threats against his base and his fellow soldiers. officials did step up patrols at the base and they paid a visit to cards home. but then they moved on card was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot on friday after an that will probably thin out by the late afternoon. now, i want to get to the visibility here real quick in terms of that fog coming back, it looks like it's still on hiatus here because the conditions are so dry. the marine layer is not going to be puncture through and live shot of the east bay shoreline for you to. let's break it all down here for you as we get into tomorrow. our tonight, rather, we've got some scattered clouds by midnight that will probably thicken up by 06:00am. but again, looking for something to allow some warming a little bit better warming. it looks like, however, in the this time workers from some of the nation's biggest pharmacy chains are on the picket lines. walgreens. cvs and rite say they're calling out sick from today. through wednesday. they're protesting working conditions and unfair wages. organizers say the goal is to have better staffed stores and improved work-life balance. today's protest follows sickouts by walgreens and cvs employees. that happened earlier this month. meantime, the auto workers strike coming to an end after general motors reached a tentative agreement with the uaw. gm was the last of the big 3 auto workers to do so. the news comes just 2 days after the union moved to expand its strike to a 4th assembly plant in tennessee. details of the deal have not yet been released. however, it's expected to be in line with the agreements, both ford and stellantis reached last week. their deals include an immediate 11% raise for workers as well as protections from inflation. and some good news out of hollywood contract negotiations between hollywood studios and sag aftra are said to be in the final stretch. however, no deal has been reached just yet. reports say there is a feeling of optimism and reaching a deal that could end the months-long strike. both sides held talks over the weekend. negotiations resuming last tuesday after talks came to an abrupt end on october. 11th, the actors union is demanding general wage increases protections against the use of ai and boost and compensation for successful streak programs. >> fans around the world are paying tribute to actor matthew perry who passed away so little warming to the south bay here. we've got 80 going on for morgan hill. 79 will scott east bay shoreline, mid 70's tri valley matching that pretty much at 76 going on for livermore, tri valley looking at highs, at least in the middle 70's contrast that with numbers very similar east bay shoreline, castro valley at 75 and also 76 am and row. 74 for delay. whoa, 73 going on for fairfield. a nap at 74 78 for santa rosa. now by the middle of the week. we'll see some cloud cover. it looks like this is not going to be threatening any real precipitation. wow. he was to make a statement
