around. this is ktvu fox two news at noon. good afternoon. i'm andre senior. i'm gasia mikaelian. we're following breaking news in oakland now as fire crews are responding to reports that a body has been found in lake merritt. we'll head to ktvu. reporter henry lee was at the lake and you've learned something about this disturbing discovery. henry. yeah, very disturbing indeed. what we have here is a parent body found in a suitcase at the edge of lake merritt. take a look behind me. very much an active scene this was reported about 11 this morning by volunteers who cleaned the lake. we are at the corner of lakeshore and hanover. these volunteers made this disturbing discovery. we immediately called 911 oakland police and oakland fire are here. in fact, just a few minutes ago, the oakland fire department's water rescue team maritime response unit joined oakland police here on the scene. obviously the circumstances of this discovery very suspicious. so i would assume that oakland homicide investigators that are part of the criminal investigation division, even if they're already here, will be joining their patrol officers very shortly. again, this discovery made by volunteers who clean the lake across from the lake chalet restaurant and the boathouse. if you imagine looking straight across that building, that's exactly where we are on the southeast part of the lake near hanover and lakeshore, still very early to say whether the person inside the suitcase is male or female. the condition of
