Ottawa police preparing for an unusual Canada Day

Canadians celebrate during Canada Day festivities on Parliament Hill on July 1, 2019. The Ottawa police expect there will be crowds gathering downtown and, possibly, in other parts of the city on Canada Day this year.

The Ottawa Police Service will have extra staff on hand during Canada Day to monitor the pop-up celebrations of the nation’s 154th birthday.
For the second year in a row, the pandemic will curtail official celebrations: There will be no downtown fireworks, no Changing of the Guard ceremony and no outdoor stage performances.
