For joining us here on r. T. International. First this hour breaking news coming in from the netherlands now where dutch police say that several people have been injured in a stabbing incident on the main shopping street in the hague Emergency Services are the scene very initial details just coming through well bring you more information as it emerges. Now only a matter of hours earlier a stabbing attack occurred in Central London police the class this is a terrorist attack unconfirmed reports at least 2 members of the public being killed can show you why when this video is taken in the area which is considered a busy thoroughfare in the city as you can see people wrestled with the suspect trying to pin him to the ground the woman actually manages to get the knife of the attacker an armed officer is seen with his weapon drawn a short time later a shot to Police Confirm the attacker was shot dead at the scene our correspondent. Has more. Mass evacuations happening from the Office Building surrounding the London Bridge vicinity it was indeed a Major Incident and earlier this afternoon the assistant Police Commissioner neil past who confirmed it was terrorist related as you would expect due to the nature of the incident we responded to this was terrorist related i know and a position that it has been declared a terrorist incident the suspect who was also. A hoax explosives attached to him he was shot down at the scene on London Bridge its understood that before he was shot down dead there are members of the public that were pinning him down that was video footage that emerged that reportedly at this moment in time as i say the incident broke out somewhat 3 hours ago and since then there were convoys of Emergency Services flooding into the scene descending onto London Bridge including counterterrorism officers at the time it was a precautionary measure of course now its been confirmed as terrorist related but accompanying them was also specialist Armed Force Officers too as well as the Ambulance Services and indeed the fire brigade we understand that many victims are now being treated at hospitals for their injuries some of which are a serious level the police are still offering statements saying that the public must remain vigilant and stay calm at this moment in time as they say the incidents over its no longer ongoing but of course earlier this afternoon. There were scenes of absolute pandemonium and chaos crushing people for each other. That was. Making. The big people. Company. I think. Theres a lot of movement going on to make. Those kind of councillors are like a wave or something going on. And then suddenly everybody said go down into the basement we are taken down into place with until such time as now weve been evacuated well we have had some reaction then from the Prime Minister Boris Johnson clearly my thoughts 1st my. Fault 1st with the Emergency Services with the police the bravery they showed in going towards danger as they do i also want to pay tribute to the extraordinary bravery of those members of the public who physically intervened nice crime there when the captain of london is out a record highs at the moment people are understandably very worried and. London has been at the center of a knife crime epidemic 132 fatal stabbing so far this year alone thats after last years surge in the number of killings in the capital 130 the epidemics now close to being the highest in a decade. I speak now to former detective chief inspector with the metropolitan Police Peter Kirk and joins me on the line very good indeed peter and its a sad day because when hearing now in just the last few minutes. A 2nd incident this is that the hague in the netherlands another stabbing attack at the moment very Little Information but we know several people injured things might turn out to be very different in a few hours time i just wonder to stabbing attacks in major cities within a few hours coincidence unlikely i would have thought. Id actually probably disagree with that obviously there look at the background of the people involved in both but i suspect that from what we know of. How most of these attacks come to be that its actually unlikely that theyre coordinated in any way thats a big part of the problem with this type of terrorism is there is no Big Organization behind it for the place and Security Forces to infiltrate to carry out surveillance on and so forth. And so youve got the self starters if you like individuals often with petty Crime Mental Health and other problems in their background who self radicalize on the internet and they may not of even talk to anybody and certainly they rarely talk to many people around them or any people around them and so they wouldnt be a way of them knowing what was happening down the road let alone another country. And as he said lets lets say that the netherlands incident turns out not to be a terrorist attack but the main this is the problem isnt it when theres a stabbing incident how on earth did the police know what theyre dealing with whether this is just a thief or its a much greater threat to them and to the public. At the beginning you dont know very much at all and so you have to make a professional judgment call i suspect there were 2 major factors 3 major factors which led the metropolitan place to start started off as a terrorist incident and then see where the evidence took them number one the location bearing in mind what happened 2 and a half years ago number 2 the method used that we are seeing so many across the whole of europe and elsewhere so many attacks that just involve knives or vehicles no barrier to anybody putting that sort of attack together and thirdly the fact he was very rapidly seemed to be wearing some sort of fake suicide vest that in itself really would say this is terrorism the whole point of a suicide vest if its viable is to kill people if its not viable the purpose of it is to terrorize people so they see the fake grass think theyre going to get blown up and run away and so theyll start off that. Its easier to start off with a terrorist incident a few days in discover that it isnt and close it all down and pass it back to ordinary policing than it is to do it the other way round to leave ordinary policing with it and then a few days or weeks in discover that its easy fact terrorism and then try and play catch up from the terrorist point of view. We saw a Police Officer go in to clearly very dangerous that you. And in medal life death decision in whether or not to shoot what seemed to be the assailant i just wanted to give and just such a delicate situation what do you make of the involvement of the public as it seems in this incident to tackle the assailant. The footage that still in the rounds on social media is leading to all sorts of bizarre weird and wonderful conclusions as to the righteousness or otherwise of the police actions. The telling point about all that footage is it hasnt got the most important bits which is what led to the group of members of the Public Opinion this guy to the pavement in the 1st place so where watching footage doesnt actually tell us very much at all. Yes there were a number of members of the public breathtaking bravery and heroism by them in getting involved. Really great to see. We have a saying thats part of policing here that the police the public and the public are the police and that was very that was showing this in huge amounts. They didnt know what they were going into they got involved and they stayed with it and the last one that was hanging on to him had a big sort of dragged away by the scruff of the neck while Police Officer. And finally peter knife crime increasing is this an epidemic thats impossible to stop. No book but the changes that are needed to stop it at the 1st thing with a knife crime epidemic were talking about it now in the context of nice being used in a terrorist attack or believe terrorist attack thats a tiny little bit of knife crime those knife crime involved in Domestic Abuse theres knife crime involved in street robbery the bit thats really exploding is the use of knives to further cough and petty disputes and turf wars between. Teenage crime gangs theyre involved in street crime street drug dealing and general gang related activity thats the bit thats exploding now the causes for that are multiple. And so the things that need to be done to address that are multiple those Mental Health so we need to look at Mental Health Provision School exclusion so we need to look at that theres housing theres drink and drug problems theres broken families theres all manner of things that lead young people to get involved in gangs and from there comes the use of the knives and so all of those things need to be addressed and thats what really frustrates me is that the government keeps saying oh were doing all we can and theyre not they are simply not replacing all the put services across all those different parts of our society policing hasnt been replaced yet the 221000 officers have not been replaced yet but the police just keeping a lid on the problems that arise from other causes and they all must be addressed as well i dont see the current crop of politicians having the wherewithal to address the problems that need to be addressed and unless they do then the knife crime will continue its Socio Economic and cultural reasons behind their they all need to be addressed and very few if any of them are to any great extent. Peter i think some very insightful analysis thanks so much for coming on my guest former detective chief inspector with the with us peter. The iraqi Prime Minister abdul mahdi says that he will resign to allow law makes to form a new government iraqis have been celebrating the news here the latest pictures coming out of the capital city the problem is announcement follows weeks of violent protests right across the country people demanding a change of government theyve been angered over poor service is unemployment and chronic corruption more than 300. 00 people have been killed thousands more injured since the rallies began last month unless the gulf state analytics alexander brunow things that the p. M. s resignation isnt going to solve iraqs problems. I dont think that the situation will change considerably in fact this is the year what they call a pyrrhic victory if theyve got the agreement for the Prime Minister to resign but what will actually change if rockets particularly under streets i dont think anything will change. Given the structural problems infrastructure is feeling there is not enough money to keep public salaries economy has changed at all d. Since the American Invasion until. A serious Reconstruction Program begins i dont think the socalled democracy can do anything to fix the real problems facing iraqis. The mayor of a small town in bolivia who was brutally assaulted by protesters amid unrest triggered by the countrys political crisis is refusing to resign petition is now left hospital images of the attack on her emerged on social media revealing the violence towards politicians of the party of ousted leader ever more or less was when he made. Find these images coming up now setting. The start of november after setting the town hall. At all as mob paraded the barefoot cut her hair in public and sprayed it reds during the 4 hour ordeal she was made to kneel and sign a resignation letter. That she still being treated for kidney damage sustained from the blows she received. When all what happened was disgusting i am now recovering from brean all damage that he suffered during the assault and i am still in pain the also cut off my hair they beat me up but they can change my views everything was so confusing at that moment many of them covered their faces but we recognized some of them it was sad to see all those people attacking me its been a difficult time for my children to see their mother in such a condition i dont want this to happen again. Bolivia is now facing Political Uncertainty the selfappointed right wing government of senator johnny 9 years that spin accused already of abuses of overall is resigned after the countrys military suggested he step down but off the back of a wave of protests following octobers election and allegations of vote fraud rather his supporters are protesting what they see as a coup in the countrys postelection unrest 34 people were killed more than 800 injured. Again says the violence has to stop. You know that if youre going to be i cant betray my people those who believe in me i would like to express my gratitude to the staff who have stayed with me and are dedicated to improving this city we will keep working to achieve all our goals it was very difficult to return here after everything they did to me and it was terrible to see this city hall in such a state after all the work that was done to improve it after everything thats happened how can it get any worse people need to reflect and stop harming each other we need to restore unity ive never hurt anybody ive always worked for my city and i want people to take a step back and think the believe in people cannot live like this. Ok lets get a live update now on todays events in london i understand that the head of the much told much politan police force is now making a statement just to provide people with more information on whats happened. I also want to thank the members of the public who have helped either. By showing extraordinary courage and stepping in to tap tackle this attacker or indeed by following the instructions theyve subsequently been given by officers at the scene and in the area. This support from our public assists us much more than you could know. In the coming days you will see more police both armed and unarmed patrolling our streets to help reassure those who are understandably concerned. Similarly our counterterrorism detectives will be working around the clock. To identify those who have lost their lives. To support all the victims and their families. We are also working at full tilt. To understand exactly what has happened and whether anyone else was involved. For this reason we expect cordons to remain in place around the London Bridge area for some time. This afternoon i met with the Prime Minister and the home secretary and also had a meeting with the man im very grateful for all our support indeed we have been working closely with the government at every level and just really just as closely with our partners across london this will obviously continue in the coming days. From this joint efforts mustnt stop with the all star it is. As you know we are treating this as a terrorist incident. Fighting terrorism takes efforts and determination from all of us. If you have any information or indeed any concerns please to contact us. The empty ideology of terror. Offers nothing but hatred. And today i urge everyone to reject that. Ours is a great city because we embrace each others differences. We must emerge stronger still from this tragedy. In doing that. We will ensure that the very few who seek to divide us will never ever succeed. Thank you very much im happy to take a couple of questions which. Disproves do you see. This is a very fast moving dynamic investigation we will keep. Updated as we learn things i cant comment on that at the moment. Again a very fast moving inquiry thats obviously a very important line of investigation for us was this person involved with anybody else if so who and of course we will be working to minimize any threat that may be out there. Im afraid i cant say that would be a a lead for the hospitals and indeed the las. I cant at the moment im im not the president that of course its an absolute priority for us to identify who they are and in make sure that their families are informed so im not going to say anything more im afraid about the 2 people who sadly died. I absolutely cannot confirm anything at all for that at this stage but rest assured we will tell you as soon as we reasonably can what we know about these people but of course you would understand our priority is 1st of all to make a categorical identification and secondly to ensure that their families are informed as swiftly and as promptly as we can. The last one. And so so i could not she had a question. To. So i think we weve already put out an appeal i would repeat that appeal that anybody who is in the area anybody who has for example or any video fish they think maybe it might be relevant anybody who saw anything at that time we would want to hear from them we will be working as fast as we can. I understand who this man is where he comes from and whether there is anybody else that we need to find quickly who might be in touch with him thank you very much thank you. For. Moving from the knife attack in london down to a reminder of our breaking news story this just came in the last hour from the netherlands where dutch police now say that 3 people have been injured in a stabbing on the main shopping street in the hague the area had been packed with black friday shoppers at the time the suspect is said to still be on the loose police are currently searching for a male perpetrator aged between 45 and 50 condition of those injured or a motive of the attack or they are details that are not yet known the incident came just hours after that deadly stabbing in london. The head lies on the ground you have the feeling of being in the 19th century or in their nations with the putrefied bodies which the doctors work all of this is bad enough where it gets worse though is that sometimes the bodies allegedly werent used for medical science but rather were sold out to private companies at a price tag of about 400. 00 euros per limb meanwhile the university has a shut the center down for an inspection and released this statement Paris Descartes University wishes to apologize to families about this situation the university reaffirms its full commitment to the dignity of donors and their families after several decades of activities some of the centres facilities have become obsolete practices have changed and society demands for respect for dignity and transparency have reinforced our ethical duties the scan. What happens to her family and daughters in florida you know the mother daughter is very innocent and terry is meaning messes with your head what happens to the community the public was screaming for a scapegoat the Police Needed a scapegoat so why not choose a 19 year old black kid with a criminal record who better to pen this than him and what happens in court to be.
