Well joining me now is jeremy soucie an activist whos been demonstrating it in minneapolis itself believer you said jeremy 5 of the last 6 months youve been out on the streets there bringing some pictures to our audience live as youre speaking there whats going on just give us a bit of information about whats been going on what the mood is like the atmosphere how have things been there on the streets. So far it is very peaceful lot of solidarity. A lot of news reports have been going out about violence taking place at night. From the days that ive been out the only time violence erupts are aggression a show is when the police have come out and shown for us for the most part a lot of the protests are very peaceful their children and their families a lot of people sharing their emotions and their trauma with the public. I just cant really get over that the force thats being used out here. Is just really heartbreaking to to witness you know the 1st person obviously to mention you know that the tactics used by police to say theyve been justified heavyhanded have you experienced personally any of that yourself or what have you witnessed on the put the part of the police here do you feel they put on reasonable. Yes i think they have on the 27th which would leave us wednesday roommate of mine went out he and i went out to the front. Earlier that day Public Officials that spoke about the police needing to use restraint and not use this force meant a lot of people to d assemble peacefully. And that protests im not exactly sure the protests have gotten too close to the polices comfort but they began openly shooting rounds of tear gas rubber bullets into the crowd and it seemed to be like an open target practice. Its intrigue eyes over you know i was struck in the back as i was trying to walk away from the from the protests. And like i shared with other people theres no notice that theyre going to open fire theres no choice whether we want to engage them in that manner or not. Its just they just randomly do it without notice i have noticed now that the National Guard is here get on a loudspeaker and they announce that we have to clear the area and they give us an opportunity to do that before they open fire now. We with was showing some of the photos come up which youve said it doesnt look at the pretty nasty mark youve got there on your on your torso just in terms of what the protesters are calling for in minneapolis obviously the main officer responsible for the killing has been arrested hes been charged the others have been fired theyre under investigation do people all streets feel that is enough justice or do they want to see more of what is that. Absolutely not its definitely not enough and i think i think the path to peace is not this violence an Excessive Force they want all 4 police to be arrested and put in jail. As a normal citizen was to carry something out like this they would have gone to jail the same night 9 days later they also want. Prosecution to come and because they dont trust the prosecution or the city government. I moved up here from new orleans louisiana 6 years ago and this is been long gone by. These wounds these people are trying to hit all as a community and each time that they make some progress something happens with this police force. My personal opinion i think it would be a good idea of the department of justice to step in and take over this this but we saw this department. Clearly you can see that theres a hierarchy that theyre still using these old behaviors and i think people need to look at the police union that is is protecting these Police Officers lots of them have been at pro trump rallies and White Supremacy rallies. Its just like you know in order to make change you have to clean house and i think these are some things that you know the governor and the state can be doing not all. The people have made demands and they need to be met i dont think people will stop protesting and. Meeting with the demonstrators now there has recently been an increased call for the protesters to be nonviolent and not to engage in and you know smashing property property destruction or looting or anything like that the calls for nonviolence up from those who agree with their their demands has increased but might it seems that the country is very very much worried now washington d. Is has imposed a curfew and at this point we understand there is an effort to try and clear out these demonstrations on that many believe that its after dark that these demonstrations become more violent and confrontational its during the day we see more peaceful marches so at this point everyone is bracing for what will happen on this 5th night of protests following the killing of george floyd. A curfew 7 imposed in dozens of cities across the us meaning people are prohibited from being outside of the 8 pm that hasnt stopped the riots in new york city alone over 38 injured in clashes on saturday with around 350. 00 arrests made. What a lot of pressure on the president to move against in secret for some time there are a lot of people who believe that it does act as a terrorist organization i actually think it sets a very poor precedent because what happens is even though there are a lot of conservatives in this country who would say well thats a good thing we need to label this group of that as a Terrorism Group but as soon as your guy is not in office more and you get someone from the other side that they will then want to turn around and label any protest movement on the other side also a terrorist group the establishment of the country is not sure what to make of these protests i think a lot of it has to do with its impart a black lives matter issue its in part a response to Police Violence against unarmed black men because weve seen this over and over but i also believe the more seen this in relation to the lockdown that happened in the United States there are a lot of people who have been frustrated with the Financial System theyre frustrated with not having jobs not being able to make money theres a lot thats going on thats creating frustration and then to see another blatant example of another black man killed at the hands of Police Officers and its not just one officer by the way theres video that shows 3 other officers for some time around george floyd and the fact that there are 4 other officers in total who could have intervened and simply chose not to when protesters were saying on friday night and saturday night that their biggest frustration is that one officer has been charged but others have not been charged and they believe those officers should also be charged with murder youre seeing big coalitions of people coalescing around this particular issue which is a specific issue and an important one really to be protested but i think that there are other issues as well so i suspect we wont see at least for several days maybe even a week these these protests died out. Well i was out in the event today getting his face in st augustine very close to here in jackson hole i am a little independent journalists and activists and yesterday. There was violence by the police culminated in the streets of jacksonville they resulted in the use of the unnecessary use i say the 1st 10 i was a live video they are necessary use of tear gas against Peaceful Protesters people around me were peaceful and we received tear gas and i saw her tear us inhalation with my other comrades there. And you know this is a violation of International Law you know i say some light on the nations of the world including russia has no respect for International Law doesnt sign on the national on the preachers International Law to other nations but yes we suffered from tear gas and all types of of her oppression and in arrests in the ones that i witnessed were unjustifiable the violence was coming from the state from the police against the protesters are were yelling out slogans like black cars mounir trying to fight for their rights as africanamerican other minorities here in the United States and as a result i was going to an event today nearby as you know augustine and gave his speech exposing the interior use and the abuses the system is doing here. The the officer who was responsible directly for the killing hes been obviously arrested and charged the others have been dismissed there an investigation as well does this feel that is not enough to they want things to go further i mean what what is the main. Goal the protesters are trying to achieve surely surely of my photos are to visually we need to have systemic change so its not just a question of the judicial case and standing or the investigation thats pending in minneapolis or the cities where theres been abuses there are some pieces some of the changes to how police or fire how theyre trained the whole system during this crisis was here in the United States from the house to be deep systemic changes and we need to find a consensus on the list of demands for those changes can be made. Some people are concerned about this being the right time for turning out for mass protests i mean clearly what happened in minneapolis was a tragedy and people need to vent their anger vent their concerns surely though there is a case to answer that people are putting others at risk during coronavirus pandemic where hundreds or more people could actually die because of this. Dont believe in conspiracy theories we wear masks were responsible how we protest. And also of course the mass of a situations where tira straight as. Protests and theyve used pepper spray here they are violating the law using tear gas so yes weve been using mass and taking precautions and trying to social distance. As we can so were protesting responsibly but again were facing abuse and violence are simply unnecessary stayed in jacksonville and throughout the country. Race relations with the black community the police theyve always been tense in the United States going back to the protests of the sixtys and way before that decade centuries before that. Do you feel the death of george floyd is a turning point kind of a some sort of turning point here or sadly can we expect this to go around in circles when theres a next case of justified Police Brutality yes initially turning point because theres a term that i use mostly she said hey. You know i feel sympathy more than i feel im missing and solidarity with the family of mr floyd whos a fellow minority an africanamerican. And yes i think that it can be a turning point the police can murder broad daylight on camera and on like the case in new york with a gardener who cannot breathe. In this case actually theyre doing something in minneapolis but again there has to be systemic change throughout the country. From wisconsin and other states around here i dont think thats possible because the people i see rioting theyre not russian there are 4 blooded americans you know and just people who choose to stand on the wrong side and i believe that they come in to cause confusion and chaos so that they can make the protesters look like like theyre bad people and we dont have a cause but what it really comes down to is when you look at that video of george floyd saying i cant breathe i mean youre not human if you cant look at that
