The largest bear ever shot in the Cass-Crow Wing county area is shown with David Goodnature, Brainerd, one of those that shot it. It weighs 600 pounds and is 7-feet long, measuring 30 inches across the back. It had terrorized farmers near Lake George, killing 40 sheep on one farm and 15 sheep on another.

Baxter s welcome sign will be installed on Hwy 371, but not without questions. The 14 x 16-foot sign was originally intended to be placed near the Mississippi bridge in Crow Wing Twp, but residents thought it was hypocritical given the no billboard rule. The sign has been moved to north of CR 48 in Baxter.
