Playing on Forces Radio I m Melissa Davies good to have your company along as I m not the best sleeper I ve never really been a really deep sleeper or do nor do I go to sleep very easily and someone recently suggested to me to try before going to bed some melatonin now it s naturally produced by the body and it s a bit of a hormone that your body starts producing in the evening time to kind of get your body ready to go to sleep and I say if you come a boost up your melatonin levels more likely that you will fall asleep faster and stay asleep easier so I thought I d try this try to over couple of nights Yes I felt quite sleepy went to sleep very easily but my brain obviously did not shut off at all and ended up having some very bizarre dreams the other night I was attacked by a polar bear I know. Oh like one of the things you re thinking about when you go to sleep is polar bears up attacked by a polar bear and then got in trouble for fighting off the polar bear from the Fish and Wildlife people who are like well that s obviously your fault. So there we re not going to help you at all and so I ve kind of thought maybe this whole melatonin thing isn t for me I looked up the side effects of it and it is vivid dream and as much as yes falling asleep is good but waking up in sheer terror that you re being attacked by a polar bear doesn t help your sleep quality whatsoever I can tell you that now now there is a simple and speedy trick that could make you fall asleep in as little as 16 minutes and it doesn t involve counting Willy things and it has some other practical benefits too and people say you know have a hot bath have a glass of warm milk you some lavender spray and make your room cold and more socks to bed it s a lot of stuff to think about before going to bed and how to get to sleep faster but what they re saying is not many of these are actually practical or would work and I maybe you hate milk and Matt lavender sets off your allergies like it does for me but they say there is a new simple trick and it all involves is making a list but specifically a To Do List all the tasks and the jobs which you haven t got around yet to doing and they ve done a bit of a study that says that people were given a writing task and then analyzed how well they slept in a lab and the 1st one the 1st group wrote about things they already completed and then the 2nd group wrote a list of tasks that they needed to do and they found that the people who were in the 2nd to do group fell asleep 16 minutes before the other group and so if you kind of write down these things and you kind of put them on the paper as the things you need to do but you don t no longer need to think about and worry about in them and have a significant contribution to the falling asleep so write down your To Do list of all the things this need to get done put it aside and leave it at. And go back to sleep do you think this works worth a try let go we have a go and see I may be going to write a list except it s probably going to take me about 4 hours because I always have about 3000 things I need to get the list will probably take longer to write that I would spend in bed next to c.n.c.
