And Charles BarkleyMaggie Haberman jordan clifford, plus actress niecy nash. King charles starts now. Going in, going in. Oh, yeah 2020 for us here. This is our first show of the year. We are glad to be back, because we were last week by the debate. I knew yall really watch that thing. But we are ready to start the new year off right, gayle. Just in that open, charles, it caught me, he said i love karaoke. Do you do karaoke . I do. Frank sinatra. I do franks and ahtra. You do . What is a song that you do. I do new york new york, and my way, but ive been doing king brown lately. Oh, i love king brown. Im a big do you care to share with the class . The words. But nobody does Karaoke Sober. Listen, i do Karaoke Sober if i do it. I have a terrible voice but i love karaoke. This is the thing, i say heres two more in 2024 and i dont have any new years resolutions. Do you have . One you know, im trying to give up diet coke. How many die coax have you had the last hour . Number one, how many die coaxed you drink a day, normally . 10 to 20. Im trying, gayle. Im an addict, im trying to stop. 15 to 20 a day . Ive only had, since we got here at 3 00, ive only had, like, eight. Charles this is not good for you. Honestly, this is not good for you. It takes so good, though. Gayle, i just love diet coke. I really do. We have so much to get to tonight. Its funny, because people say to me, i watch the show, i really like to show. People ask me all the time, are you worried about what charles is going to say . I was on amtrak. A guy i think was his name, said he is like old muffler. You dont know what is going to come out. I always say this. Charles, you know exactly what you are doing at all times. You never say anything just for clickbait. You never say anything just to be provocative. True . 100 . I know, number one, what i want to say. And i know what the reaction is going to be. Yes. Because what i try to do, to be honest with you i know if im on spotify. But i really just try to start a conversation. I say to people, you are not right or wrong all the time. Yes. I just want to throw it out there, and then lets have a conversation about it. But yes, i always know the reaction of thats why want people to know, there is no you are very authentic. You dont put on airs. And what we speak the truth as you see it. Its just your truth now. Sorry . Because i think because some people think, when they speak, its the gospel. Your truth is only your truth. Just because you say it doesnt mean when you think about speaking the truth. We saw former President Donald Trump score a very decisive win in the iowa caucus. Maggie haberman, she is so great, is going to join us tonight, to talk about what to expect from him and his Campaign Going forward. She has covered him for a long time. Shes written a book. She knows all things when it comes to donald trump. Looking forward to. That just saw Roy Wood Junior. Hes here. Hes kind of become one of our unofficial king charles political analysts until somebody else you know, theres an opening on comedy central. Roy, hes never introduced me to trevor. Noah trevor noah is on my bucket list. I think we can pick up the phone, and maybe he will. Come hes going to be here with Jordan Klepper. We are going to talk about them, we are going to talk to them, rather, about the 2024, raise their experiences with voters, comedy, tv. And roy had a big moment on the stage yesterday because he trevor noah show. Trevor won an emmy and they were both part of the trevor noah show. As the entire political world has moved into the tiny state of New Hampshire, charles, we have to play something i know you all saw this. What nikki haley said this week will take, please. We are not a racist country, brian. We have never been a racist country. Our goal is to make sure that today is better than yesterday. [laughter] we asked people out on the street about that tonight. We did not find anyone that could agree with that anybody with common sense. You know what . Ive been having a hard time trying to decide why im going to vote for. For nikki haley, its a leader in the clubhouse because she was a leader in your clubhouse . Shes 100 correct. If you forget about slavery jim crow, segregation, antisemitism, asian hate that has been going on in this country. America has been smooth sailing. Right. You know, that was i think a lot of people were surprised first of all, you cant be surprised. That was just stupid. America was built on racism. First of all american we certainly built on slavery. Listen, you can criticize a country. This is the greatest country in the world, but you can still criticize. Anybody who thinks we dont have racism. Turn on the tv every single day, there is racism. And for her, somebody who wants to be the president of the united states, to Say Something that stupid not just stupid. Like, when you heard it, you are like, oh, i wish i could go back on my tv. Because some people to rewind it to because you cant think that. You cant think that racism doesnt exist in this country. Right now, like i said, america was built on racism. Like i say, segregation, jim crow, slavery, even now we have got antisemitism that is through the roof. And last couple of years, asian people have been getting mistreated. She has a town hall tonight, jake tapper. Going up to New Hampshire. We are going to have the whole audience black. Thats what we are going to do. And when jake tapper said, we have a question, we are all going to raise our hand at the same time. If i could get its cold out here right now. If i could get somebody tells me theres not very many black people in New Hampshire. I would have to come from new york everything rosy with black people, shes been in New Hampshire and iowa for the past couple of months, shes seen no im so disappointed that she said that. Because its 100 wrong. I would like to see her address. That we will see. We will see. Talk about a costly mistake. Arnold schwarzenegger we all know him. He was detained at an airport in munich, germany the other day for more than two hours. Why . Because he failed to declare a watch, reportedly valued at more than 20,000 upon his arrival. As this ever happened to you . Ive gone to an airport and they, say do you have anything to declare . I always say, no, i dont. Most of the time, i really dont. So, has this ever happened to you . It happens all the time. You just got to learn to lie. And say charles. When you go through and then when the guy looked at you and says, charles, are these cubans . No, they are not. They are not cubans. And then if youve got a nice watch, i already had that watch. You have to lie. Or, or, or or you could just declare it. No, you are going to pay taxes an event. Okay. We pay no taxes, gayle. So, you are encouraging people to lie . They do it all the time. I just have to say this. I was on the plane. Normally if you are traveling out of i never have 10,000 in cash. What i was on the plane with oprah. She had 10,000 in cash. And you are supposed to declare it. And so, it was all the i dont like entourage, but all the very close friends. And so, she said, i have to declare. It but i, said its your money. It doesnt make sense to me when its your money. Why did he split it up . Give me 2000, give so and so 2000, give me 3000 . And i am a law biding citizen. And i said, no one will know. And she said, but i will know. I will know. And so, she declared. It see, i knew oprah was too good to be true. That broke my heart right there. My point is, she does the right thing even when no ones looking. And i am a lawabiding citizen, but i would give me 2000, give you 2000, thats what i would have done. I would have did that as well. Coming up next, fresh off his victory in the iowa caucus, we are going to talk to somebody who won a literal pulitzer for their reporting on donald trump. We are talking about the great Maggie Haberman about Where Do We Go From Here and lots of questions. You are watching king charles. We will be right back. We are very excited about our next guest. Her name is Maggie Haberman, of the new york times. She is a Pulitzer Prize winner and the author of Bestselling Book yes, Bestselling Book confidence man. The Making Of Donald Trump and the breaking of america. So, maggie, welcome. Im really glad you are here. Thank you for i think my ready for a very long time. You literally wrote the book on trump. Today, we saw he almost got kicked out of the course today for his very destructive behavior. You give a speech attacking the judge, and then he goes out and of course talks to the press. So, the way you look at it, do you think the trump rallies, we always use to cover the rallies. Now, when he comes out of court, everybody covers what he will, not everybody, but he gets a lot of coverage when it comes out of the courtroom. Pretty much. He has melted his legal cases, and his Political Campaign so they are indistinguishable. He fundraises off the legal cases. This was a civil case. He did not have to be there today. We chose to be. There is not a criminal trial where he would have most of his supporters do not know the difference. They dont care hair the difference but they just they tune in that way, and so they give the money that. Way and so he is really leaning into this, because he has learned a lesson that there is a benefit him politically. Today, in court, he seemed to want to get kicked out of. Court can you talk about what happened in court today . Sure, so he went to court it seems very much like that to me. This was, again, and accused him of decades ago and he was already found liable for sexual abuse and in this case, he showed up for her testimony, and instead of us talking about testimony testimony. We are talking but the fact that he was making noises, he was overheard and lou kaplan, who is a very serious judge, hes been on the where things tend to be a little looser, and something to the effect, of i know you want to get thrown out. Im not going to do. That and trump responded, that was love that. I suspect that, gayle, that is true. He would have liked to have yet thrown out and hands he winds, steals the other side loses. How long have you been covering politics . 20 summit years. Have you ever i trust your expertise seen candidates like his either love him or you hate him. There is no middle ground. And Everybody Else hates have ever seen this type of fire storm . The only close to a polarizing figure like trump i have seen at every level is really giuliani. Those city hall accounted for the final three years of the administration, then i covered his president ial administration, which is very different because he but at city hall he was incredibly polarizing. And he made a number of racist statements, and he was constantly at odds with black leaders. He was constantly reflectively pro calm, no matter what the incident involving cops was. That is the only thing i can remember like this. But even so it does not come close. This is what i struggle with, maggie, covering him. Im curious about how you feel about i always think you are a title to your own opinion, but you are not entitled to your own set of facts. How do you cover something where hes very fluid with the truth, as we know . And that it doesnt matter what he says. It doesnt matter that people will believe anything he says, even when its been proven not to be true. How do you cover someone or how do you present stories when the facts dont matter . In a case of is it hard for you . I think there is no longer an objective fat facts that and that became clear in 2016, that things were heading that way. It has devolved much worse since. Then i think one of the starkest examples is that since he left office, and since he has been telling his election lies of 2020 relentlessly, i had a number of republicans who believe his version of events, about the election, and about what happened on january 6th has really changed. And so that is the start of this example. Its incumbent upon us to tell the cleanest and clearest version of the truth that we can. But is it does that matter . It matters in terms of how we do our jobs because that is our job. And how many people understand that or here that we cant do anything about it . All we can try to do is make sure that our stories are checked out, and clear. Have we ever had a Candidate Win the nomination and never did a debate . I really cannot think of anything like this, somebody who wasnt an incumbent, he is running as if hes an incumbent. And that is what is so and that has not hurt him. Not doing any debates has not heard him. And minimal events in iowa. He did something close to 30 events. But that is nothing compared to what the other candidates did. This is unprecedented, and it is almost entirely and not only, because he does have a strong base of support with these indictments have that have not become clear until the summer. Ive heard supporters say, listen, someone even said he maybe morally bankrupt and i may not agree with how he conducts himself, but i like his policies. And so those seem to sometimes he and telling the truth has always been or the way you treat people or the way you talk to people and so he behaves in ways that many people would not want their parents to behave but, yeah, i like his policies. Is that where we are . Is that where we are in this country . That is very much where we. Are where centrally everything is divided by not just how you view certain policies or behavior, behavior, Quote Unquote his supporters will say what he does it and the way that they want, and makes their lives better. He wrote a book about. Him to have a report with him . Still you seem to have had a report with him. I covered him. And i dealt with him a lot. As a subject who i covered, he was very angry about the book. I had a lot of reporting in it that made him very upset. And he has continued to vent that upset. But the way he has and so he called media the day. You call the other day . Yeah, for the first time in a long time. To say . What he wanted to talk about these cases in these trials that he was going to. Because i was writing a story about how politics can sort of converge again in january, as just a couple weeks ago. And he called to say that he wanted to attend all these trials. And to talk, again, about his attacks on the judge, in a civil case. And to talk about e. Jean carroll, most of which i did not report on. But he when he eating cs own best comes director in his own best defender. You will see more of that, i suspect. One final question. As a mom, as our tonight. As a mom, and your kids got to grow up in the next few years, are you hopeful that of the next year . I think this is going to be a pretty bleak campaign. On many levels. I think on the way our campaigns and who you hate and who you hate you back. I think c that to the nth degree in 2024. To be continued, indeed. Thank you. Thank you very much. Up next comedians Roy Wood Junior and Jordan Klepper. Dont go anywhere. Well be right back. New double pollo fit bowls. Only at el pollo loco. the new festive family meal. Starting at 24. Now celebrating at el pollo loco. Welcome back, as we all know, its dumping season, its not just nikki haley, donald trump, and joe biden trying. America comedians Jordan Klepper on my, left roy wood jr. On there on the road too talking to voters on their America For The Last Time tour. That is quite the title. Charles, just rolls off the tongue. It rolls off. You may know them from comedy centrals political powerhouse, the daily show. Im not sure anybody has a better feel for what people want and what they are feeling right now roy and your and we welcome you back to the show. We should say, congratulations. Because trevor noah when an emmy. And to them roy. We sought and you could have come over to the show. Its right up the street. We right around the corner. Thank you for having us. Good to see you all again. Good trip. You actually have trevors phone number . Im black. Im going to say, if you talk to him later about that. We will see what we can. Do i am black too. Anyway, Maggie Haberman was here, guys, just last break. Did she say the campaign. Roy, you want to go first . Yeah, i think maggie was spot on in talking about how emotions are driving the voter base right now, and not necessarily the truth . Oh, truth as a matter, and truths that mattering five or seven years ago. Dont nobody care about truth anymore. Its that guy, or not that guy. And q as with some of the audiences and out in the middle of america and people, like people, ive never seen people more unexcited are they unexcited. And trump versus biden and nobody wants this. Rematch nobody is on either side, right . On the trump side, trump already has his voters and has his voters. From voters seem pretty excited about him. Theyve already got the hats, theyre rebuying the hats, and i talk to the man who theyre not reformatting the. Has they just keep rebooting the money. Game on the left, there, we are talking to people at our shows who are more progressive and they dont biden, and they dont feel he is a Strong Enough candidate, which is a bummer. He has some down he has the whole Hunter Biden Situation which in and of itself is clearly going to be an albatross for him. They say they dont want either candidate on both sides. Who do they want . What does that person
