Announcer Fulton County georgia District Attorney fani willis discusses the allegations of an improper relationship with the special prosecutor overseeing former president trumps election interference case. She speaks at big Bethel Ame Church it during part of the congregations Martin Luther junior observance day service. Good morning. Good morning. [indiscernible] [applause] [indiscernible] i hope you all will be patient with me. I am working to be patient with myself. [applause] here in this Historic House of god. There is literally no place in the world i would rather be dead right here with you today than right here with you today. God always brings you to that space where you need to be. And so the invitation to come where gods message is taught, adhered to and celebrated is mine. I went to acknowledge and humbly thank first of all, my savior, the lord jesus christ. [applause] but also his humble servants, bishop jackson, supervisor Christie Davis jackson. Reverend dr. John walker. Sister marianne foster. [indiscernible] [cheers and applause] my hope for you all this week i do not look like what i did. [cheers and applause] [indiscernible] [cheers] you look at me today to hear from a perfect person, wilkie was proof and he died for your sins. [applause] but today when he has brought you is very small, is perfect servant, and so i pray for him to please hear me this morning. Some people are in this place to hear the word of god. Some people argue for other reasons. [applause] it starts with me. I want somebody to repeat that. It starts with me. Shifting the Cultural Climate through the practice of dr. King s nonviolent philosophy. So i am going to start with you. When i research the history of this monumental church, two words just jumped off the page at me. The words where this. This church is built on faith and resilience. The hardheaded, and perfect servant before you is built and is being constantly chiseled by faith and resilience. That was god telling me i am sending you to where you need to be. I am here to give you a message. [indiscernible] [applause] i am going to talk to you today about what it requires to be a soldier in your affairs, to shift to the Cultural Climate. I am going to tell you a secret . They all know. The journey is ugly. The journey is painful. The journey is full of pitfalls, but you must answer the call. You can hear me. The question is are you [indiscernible] how much are you personally willing to sacrifice for the greater good and his purpose . How much . I want you to really sit and think about that question. How much are you willing to sacrifice for gods purpose . See i am going to confess to you. As a little girl, i really did nothing dr. Martin luther kings dream would still just be a work in progress. I thought by 2024 as a 52yearold women that suddenly a human would have gotten it together. That the cultural shift would have already taken place. I thought by now we would all just be getting along. Boy, was i wrong. Now, right now. More than at any time in history , we need a cultural shift. Say it with me. Americans have normalized. Americans have normalized. They have normalized cruelty. They have normalized bigotry. They have normalized hate. Animals have no respect for authority. [applause] see, they criticize me for who my father is and what might enemy once. Let me tell you about this earthly daddy of mine. My father was one of the few americans living there was actually able to meet and spend time with dr. Martin luther king. And he told me often, you see how now you look around and did almost every corner they have dr. Martin luther kings picture , and everywhere you go they are celebrating dr. King. He said that is not how it was. We are going to tell the truth this morning. He tells me, you see, when dr. King was here [indiscernible] dr. King was saddened. He was saddened because people were cruel to them, unsupportive , even some people he thought were naturally in his stance. She really took a lot of abuse. He said dr. King was a great man. A prophet he called them. He was filled with good and kindness, and the only thing he wanted to do was make the world a more equitable place. He said dr. King was not a perfect man, like he was a great man, here to answer gods call. This week at one point they told me i should be honest with you all. I became so at ease, i stopped and i penned a letter to my heavenly father. I desperately needed to tap into that story. See, god knows my heart, my joy, my pains, my sins, my flaws. [indiscernible] telling the truth is normal. I experienced things that have taught me jesus is the only source i can only rely on every time and all the time. I hope it is ok to share this letter i wrote this week to god, but you have been warned. Me and my god, we talk like regular folks. Dear father in heaven, four years ago you sent someone to see me. She was different for me in so many different ways. She was married to a wonderful man. She was not a mother at the time , and i was raising 220yearold two 20 year olds. She was a different race than mine and she was a republican while i was a democrat. Our commonality was we were both godfearing women. She is much further in her journey than me with christ. She explained to me that you had spoken to her and told her to seek me out, and so she did. She said you have seen my heart. She provided me with the bible and encouraged me to commit to really get often. She said if i struggled to work hard, followed you without corruption at every level you would give me the position of leadership that i sought. I had no idea what her words meant, but in a beautiful way i saw christ. [indiscernible] as a divorced single mom who does not belong, does not necessarily come from the white spaces, the requirement was just too high. My heart, my work ethic, the people in the community. Lord, you know my history. My childhood. I struggled the entire time i raise my children. It was just me and these two little girls figuring out how to get it done. God was not interested. So i obeyed. To be honored as the first d. A. And as a woman. Yall hear me on that, not a woman of color, just a woman. [applause] it has always been one of my greatest honors. I worked so hard for so long. But i still wanted to be recognized. You forgot to tell me it was more than 50,000 cases. You left that detail out. Wait a minute, god. 82 thousand unindicted cases going back seven years. Wait a minute, god. It is in the toilet. And some are a little more than qualified around here. God, youve got to be kidding. Seven of the highest profile cases in the United States god, you forgot to mention that my life and the life of my family would be threatened so frequently, i now think its not normal if i dont have two Death Threats are weak. God, you did not tell me people would call me the inward more than that the nword more than they call me mom. You chided tell me as a woman of color, it would not matter what i did, my motive, my talent, my ability and my character would be constantly attacked. You did not tell me that what they required of me was perfection. God, why did you send this imperfect woman to that position . God, you did not tell me my home would be threatened multiple times. That i would sit in isolation because it was the safest place to be. You forgot to mention that i would have to abandon my home. You forgot to mention the loneliness of this position. God, i trust you, god i need you, god, i love you. I sit here with my feet back. Dear god, see my soul. People who have never met me but have allowed their spirit to be filled with hate. How is this woman who has the honor of doing this, how is it she has not reached out to me. She didnt tell me at i do not know anything you are doing but i do not agree with people threatening your life threatening your family. How far has a come to think they are normal and normalized that a woman was born of such cruelty. I would never wish to be inferior of the threat that i received. The namecalling. The being dog stte two being doxxed many times. You never told me that by christmas 2023 i would have my chief of investigations. You never told me the pure unimaginable fear. Of believing my only child was dead in my home. I cannot describe to you the panic and the terror, and the fear i have believing my child was no longer with me. I thank you lord that it turned out to be a cruel hoax and another day of stealing my joy and i celebrate you. Pray for Marjorie Taylor green. Pray for those in your house. I aint dead yet. [applause] click sanchez being honest. This is me and my daughter. I aint feeling it. God, i am using her to feel you. Pray for her. I am going through these experiences to glorify him. Hardheaded imperfect me. Pray for her, yes. But dear god, are you listening, why did that commissioner thorne in so many others . Decision in the special counsel. Lord, your flaws hardheaded in a perfect child. Im confused. I have 23 federal councils, paid them all in i hired one white woman, a good personal friend. I hired one white nanny, brilliant. And i hired one black man, another superstar, a great friend. Lord, they are going to be mad. First thing they say. She is going to play the race card now. But no, god, isnt in them who play the race card when they only questioned me. Isnt them playing the race card when they constantly think i need someone from another jurisdiction in another state to tell me how to do a job i have doing i have been doing for almost 30 years. [applause] god, why dont they look at themselves and just be honest. Why are they surprised that im so moved and can accomplish extraordinary things. God, the black command i chose has been a judge in more than years. More than 20. Businesses and civil litigation, i am not done, yall. A prosecutor, a criminal defense lawyer. Assistant attorney general. You know they dont even how can god, the same black man i hired paid them twice the rate. In another county, the officials paid him twice the rate, why is the white male republican judgment good enough, but the black female democrat is not. Now please show me. I am not criticizing his grace. The people of his county elected him to make that decision. In fact, let me put it on the record. He someone i respect because he has always risen to higher diversity. I dont care about political parties, they care about them. My only question is, why is he questioning me. Lord, all three of these special counselors are but im just asking, god, is it that some of the members see a black woman qualified and achievements, what more can one achieve . The other two have never been judged. Im just saying. Lord, im just asking, is it that because of what you put me in, will never be qualified in their eyes to make a decision the lord put me in to make. Lord, never mind your perfect service. We win and win. Lord, this leader has a trial conviction rate of 95 . [applause] never mind, lord, that have put together and has a conviction rate of 95 . Never mind the appellate rate of my office is 96 . Never mind, lord, that 400 children are being taken care of. Never mind lord, thousands of women that have now been restricted so they can work. Never mind, lord if i have more than 50 . Never mind, lord if my community has crime down 20 . Never mind, lord how is there something about me lord that still wont be qualified . God, pray for those that do not see me as qualified. Im going to slow down. Its your hardheaded does your hardheaded child. I told you, i dont want to pray for him. I am tired of being treated cruelly. Pray for their hearts, pray for their souls. I qualified you. I qualified sure in perfect self. I saw you in every hour to my work, ignore the distraction. Some of yall may be familiar with my god that i serve. He is the same god that took moses to the burning bush. How many of yall know me moses had a speech impediment. That is the servant god sent to give thirdgraders messaging of all time, let my people go. , you know ive got a speech impediment. And who will need me to do that. He said go tell them who i am. How many of yall know god will use regular, ordinary folks to do extraordinary things. How many of you all know that god i served will do extraordinary things. God will still choose you. God told me, i am preparing you. Youve had dark days and great days. Ladies and gentlemen, on thursday, i was at a very low point. Really tired of all the pain. Selfhealing and healing mothers come in talking about their children being hurt or their lives being taken from them. That pain of somebody that just takes it on. And it got a little heavy on thursday. Tired of the isolation, the loneliness, the backstabbing, tired of all of it. But then my ontime god showed up, as he always does. A lady i love and respect but had not seen in more than two years randomly came to my office. I dont stop and take lunch, i dont have time in my day. But somehow god miraculously cleared my schedule for 40 minutes and cancel them opened up so i could spend 40 quality minutes with this lady. She was another leader. She brought me her testimony of the two last awesome years. I didnt know what my friend had been through peer she told me of her cheating husband in the divorce. She told me the chemo in her body that almost took her out. She talked to me about family trauma, and as a child trying to commit suicide. Lord, she told me she was mad with you. The position of authority she had she did not want, but she took it because you told her to. She had been obedient. She wanted to know, how could i be obedient and take her through these last two years that ive had. She said, lord, you said you would perfect me. You would perfect the thing concerning me. My husband left me, my body became sick. My children suffered. My finances are in the toilet. And i was far from perfect. The lord said to her, when i told you to devote yourself to me, i will perfect you, you heard it in your human ears. You heard that meant i would make things easy and perfect. I did not mean that things would be easy, as you heard it. She said she then looked at when the lord will perfect that which will consider new, it literally means he will. How many of you all know my friends random visit was not random at all. In the lord was talking to his hardheaded child. When the lord was saying he would perfect the things concerning me, he told me he would use me to complete. So i am here to tell you something and it may make some of yall a little uncomfortable. God is using ordinary people to do extraordinary things. Real regular. When i meet people, thats what they say, real regular, you dont have anything about yourself. I say, how can i, i come from regular funk. I dont got no pedigree. Im not a member of any of the elite organizations. In one more thing, im as flawed as they come. But they knew Something Special about me, its my willingness to love people. I love people of every political party, different viewpoints, different races, different sexualities and one thing you will come to learn about me, i make sure everyone else is good, and sometimes im not. [applause] whether youre special, brilliant, god will test the journey will pull in the states, pitfall, pain and ugliness, despite all of that, he will retain those things and change the entire world. You are at a time in history many of yall have forgotten when dr. King was alive, he was attacked for his stance on the vietnam war. Or the personal indiscretions. Some of yall forgot that. All of this is great. We are at a time in history. We are at a time in history when you can no longer sit back and you cannot expect black women to be perfect. We are not perfect. We need your prayers. We need grace. With that kind of support, we will use you. We are all hardheaded and imperfect child has a message for each of you today. Please find a way to do your extraordinary, godgiven assignment and make the community and world a better place for all of you. It is never about who you are. It is always about the we are all flawed, unworthy, in perfect, damaged. If you simply commit yourself to be obedient and do work. If you commit yourself, god will turn your hardheaded self into being extraordinary. Thank you.
