First Lady Jill Biden gave a preview of the indian Prime Ministers visit to washington. She was joined by a secretary and white house staff who showed off some dishes that will be served. You look so beautiful. [laughs] when we get together, break bread, share stories, hearttoheart, we find invisible threads that tie us to want another. Receipt that tie us to one another. It is a lesson i had have seen from my mom. Wish fresh flowers, candles, and ordinary dinner can become a magical moment. With laughter, joy, kind words staying with us long after the dishes are cleared away. I try to bring that same spirit to the events that we host here. With this official state visit, we are bringing together the worlds oldest in the Worlds Largest democracies. After years of strengthening ties, the u. S. India partnership is deep and expensive as we tackle global challenges. Our relationship is not only about government. We are celebrating the families and friendships that span the globe. Both that feel the bonds of home both of our countries. The Prime Minister, some of you may know, is a vegetarian. We hashed our chef nina curtis, a plantbased pioneer, to work with our white house chefs and create a stunning vegetarian menu. Guests will have the option to add fish to their main course as well, if they choose. Tomorrow night, guests will walk across the south lawn into a pavilion draped in rich greens with saffron colored flowers at every table. The colors of the indian flag. On the transparent sides, these colors and the strength of the heritage they represent frame the iconic scenery and symbols of our nation, our democracy, and our history. The white house and the washington monument. Inside, each table arrangement is warm and unique. We hope guests feel as if someone has set the table just for them because we have. After dinner, we will have the opportunity to hear one of our nations incredible talent grammy award winner josh labelle. His performance will be followed by an Capella Group from the university of pennsylvania who are bringing a little piece of my hometown to the white house, along with songs inspired by the sounds of india. Finally, after the lastplace are cleared, with new connections forged and old ones strengthened, this will end their evening walking across a moonlit lawn. There, they will be greeted by hundreds of glowing lanterns guiding them home, alluding to pathway illuminating their pathway. Normally, the press comes and you look at the beautiful plates of food that the chefs have prepared and get almost close enough to taste. But you do not get to try it. Today, i have asked our chefs to prepare small bites of tomorrows menu. To thank you for taking the time for being with us today. Every detail has been thoughtfully planned by a team of people across the government. I want to thank the white house resident staff instate team who have worked so hard to make this visit memorable. Also, carlos thank you dr. Biden and all of you for joining us today. It is hard to make a event of this scale feel intimate but that is what dr. Biden has endeavored to do. The inspiration came with Indias National bird. From the presentation, program, pavilion, we wanted to invoke that breathtaking feeling of what it extends its tail, unveiling its beauty, majesty, and strength. Green draping will flow, giving way to the blues and greens of indian silks, falling onto a carpet of navy blue. The hues are not only a nod to our guests but also our hosts as these are two of dr. Bidens favorite colors. There will be an arrangement and small him you see here today. It will feel as if someone has gone to the garden and cut flowers specifically for this event, feeling each scape with love and care. The flowers mirror the saffron of indias flag and the heritage it represents. As leaders have done for state dinners for decades, the president and Prime Minister will give their toast. For this dinner, on the rich for screen backdrop behind them, we have replicated the iconic eagle and peacock in the same style, framing the leaders with their national birds. Stocks to the bid for a successful campaign. Around them, lotus flowers, important symbols in india. Their gleaming pedals reminding us that each day our nations bloom stronger and are more radiant together. Note the space, you will see more images of lotuses, the design inspired by the medulla mendala. The timeless elegance and approachable warmth guests will be guided to the pavilion by a flickering light, just fading in the flickering sunlight. I would like to thank david stark and his entire team who have been amazing to work with. David . [applause] thank you for bringing your talent to this project. Want to think many teams, especially my team, who have worked tirelessly to make this official state visit memorable. As dr. Biden mentioned, she chose her menu as a nod to the Prime Minister. It will infuse the cuisine of indian flavors and culture. The chef then worked with dr. Biden and white house chefs to create the delicious cuisine for the evening. It is my pleasure to introduce the chef. [applause] thank you, carlos. Thank you, dr. Biden. It is quiet. [laughter] hello, everyone. Hello. You must understand the pressure is im standing here before you. It is the kind of pressure that is also an elation. When youre asked by the first lady to come and join her at the white house, it is an experience that i hope many chefs get to have. I am so excited, it gives me great pleasure to preview tomorrows anticipated state dinner menu. And in honor of the republic of india. This is a pinnacle moment in my career and truly a pleasure to be able to work with the first lady and help her to bring her culinary vision along to life along with the executive chef and executive pastry chef. We have curated a menu that really showcases the best in american cuisine, also seasoned with indian elements and flavors. As a native californian, my ancestry runs deep in their, but my parents were very instrumental in my food scape, how identified food. I grew up with ethnic diversity, rich cultural influences and fusion food. My dad is a chef, my mom a great cook. They really exposed me to the diversity of flavors, textures, taste. Throughout michael and eric career, i have witnessed the remarkable power food has as an equalizer. A meal lovingly prepared and shared has an enchanting ability to transcend differences, forge connections, and strengthen bonds. Tomorrows dinner encapsulates this philosophy as we serve this curated menu that allows gas from both countries to experience something of the others culture. It is summer time my favorite season of the year for a chef because there are bountifuls flavors and colors. This is what we are going to be celebrating. We are very excited that india is leading efforts to celebrate International Year of the millet and we incorporated marinated millets into our menu and weaved Indian Cuisine effects throughout the menu. Without further ado have i whetted your appetite yet . [laughter] you need to hang out with me longer. [laughter] without further ado, lets dig into the menu. Thank you. For the first course, we will be highlighting the millet, is what carlos and the chef alluded to. This is the year of the millet. The millet is a wonderful grade. It is climate good. It does not need that much water to cultivate it. It is wonderful and has a lot of health benefits. If i really want to eat healthy, miller is the thing for me. We did a wonderful marinated mill salad highlighted with the millet silver corn. Also, some wonderful compressed watermelon that is local, compressed. It gives it a wonderful sweetness and is highlighted with a tingly avocado vinaigrette that really encapsulates the whole flavor into it. I will take you through the main course. I am holding a summer mushroom. It holds son drive tomatoes, leaves, herbs. Sun dried, leaves, herbs. I have saffron. This is plantbased. You are not missing any of the flavors, textures or taste. The mushroom has been flavor to perfection. It is a satisfying meal. Along with the baby carrots that are sitting on a yogurt lemon sauce. Of course, edible flowers. The third course is a and cartman infused cake. Included with this is a modern test twist on an american classic with carter mom infused strawberries
