Oncampus recruiters can no longer hand out the promotional shirts because they show the silhouette of an american Soldier Holding a rifle. Parents are calling the decision unpatriotic, but the interim superintendent says, quote, this has nothing to do with patriotism or anything to do with anybody disliking the military, it just has to do with the fact that there was a weapon on the shirt, and that just doesnt have a place in high school. She gets assaulted, anything could happen, and then theyre liable. Is this a legitimate fear . Yes. I dont know why this writer is taking so much heat yeah. Because this is actually a problem that goes on. These girls show up at these fraternity houses, the guys, what are they supposed to do, lock them out . Hey, how are you . You laid out this scenario very, very well. So it is a legitimate fear. Yeah. If a girl cant handle her alcohol, then the person at the front door should say why doesnt your Sorority Sister take you back to the house and hold your hair back while you vomit. But a lot of times too, though, they walk up to guys room, maybe they get drunk as the night goes on playing beer pong. Its almost impossible for fraternities to get sued. There was a huge cover story in the atlantic, and the way theyve ipslated themselves, i dont want feel badr for them. If youre worried about liability, do what an air line would do. They dont let drunk people on the plane, and if youve already been served, theyre not going to serve you any more. Kirsten, when they say the fraternities are under threat. This reminds me when white, straight, rich men say were being attacked. Do they have a legitimate concern . Theyre going after the washington redskins, gays in the military, things are changing. Fifty years from now, are they going to to allow from Fraternity Culture . I dont know. I have a real problem that this person wrote something that whether you agree with it or not, why does it have to be pulled down and everybody has to freak out over it . Can you not express an opinion that differs so people can tolerate it . I mean, what is the problem . First of all, the writer agreed with it being pulled down, by the way. I know, but this is our culture. This was in the politics section. Right. We literally cannot tolerate differing ideas. And the whole point of the public debate is that you should feel challenged, offended, even get upset sometimes. And then count canner. And then counter. You and i are both columnists, and its so hard when youre trying to make a point because theres other points you want to jam into the column. This writer said, look, theres also the issue of from alternative i think fraternity guys getting drunk and taking ive been quiet because ive been listening to your viewpoints. I feel like its the fault of the fraternity that has no policy to handle this. You just said it yourself, or maybe it was you, kennedy, dont let them in the or door in the first place. The sororities have sisters, people looking out for them. I know we did. We had a buddy system, designated drivers. Dont let them in the door. After theyre already in the door, im not making excuses for fraternities. I know how thats going to come off. Theres a lot of problems. These guys shouldnt get so drunk. There definitely is an issue here. There is an issue of girls getting too drunk and men taking advantage of them, however, wheres the personal responsibility for both sides . We say that for women, the feminists go berserk. No, we should be able to wear whatever we want and drink as much as we want and pass out in the streets. It makes the drunk girl thats completely clean and, again, we have to say it because some person is going to start blogging saying we support women being raped which we do not support or any of those things. But the point is the drunk woman, shes not held accountable for anything. The drunk guy, however, is supposed to make all these amazingly perfect decisions and not make any mistakes. Right.
