At the City Council Meeting, he got up and when he was talking about what he was doing, he was describing a City Council Member who i guess was pulled over for drinking and driving. He was off to the side going like this and acting like he was hes, like, miming everything. Anyway, matt traveled to toronto last night to do an interview with him. Lets take a look. You go out on a weekend, you may go on a binge every once in a while, not every weekend. Absolutely. Lets say you go on one of those binges and your phone rings at 3 00 a. M. On saturday night and something terrible happened in the city. Terrorist attack, another disaster. Are you equipped . Stable enough to handle it . Im very fortunate that hasnt happened. Say youd gone out drinking or you were drunk and something happened to your family hold on, the lives of a Million People arent my decision hold on, say your son or daughter just got killed in a car accident, youre plastered out of your mind at 3 00 in the morning, will you handle that . I take personal responsibility for my family. Youve got taxpayers and residents of this city depending on you. I take responsibility for them too. Do you still want this job . Absolutely. He said he wanted to be Prime Minister in an earlier interview. The thing about the guy, people love authenticity and he is extremely entertaining. Its so funny how in life if you look back at some of your old pictures, you remember you were going through a difficult time and you look at the plastered on smile you have to have sometimes just to make it through. I think people look at someone like Nicole Kidman and say, gosh, she has everything, a great actress, a nice husband, and they dont realize the pain behind it all. Well, we stop thinking about them as human beings. They become celebrities. Somehow stop having souls, you know, but yeah i think the old saying is, can women have it all. I think what shes expressing is yes, you can, but not at all at the same time. She got an oscar but she lost the marriage. Now she seems to be in a good place. Its like history, if you continue the same mistake, you will continue to make the same mistake. You dont learn from it. So lets have a little snack. I think its time for a snack. A comment that i made that she didnt have a brand, that she was more infamous than famous. Because someone had likened me to her and i was clarifying that i didnt agree with that. And it made her very upset. And then i did that again. And i think that some people her brand is to get it going. Is hatred. Is to get people to hate her and then were still talking about her now. A lot of people do that. There are a lot of controversial people that come on and i think theres going to be this great interesting moment and what happened is they kind of want to just remain infamous or controversial. That makes a difference. Brass catches light, makes things look shiny. We added the shutters to the left. We cleaned the drive way. We softened the white to a soft off white. I Love Learning things i didnt know. I learned 12 amazing stories. This started when i was with my daughters when they were very, very young. Id pick them up from school and id say, what did you learn today . And i realized that they were just memorizing dates and names. Facts. Thats horrible. Yeah. These are the greatest stories ever told. Exactly. And so with miracles and massacres, we have tried to tell the story. Were trying to connect you to amazing pieces of history. Extraordinary stories. 15 years ago, i was a red white and blue flag waver, ra ra, usa, we can do cried at the star spangled banner. Right . And we did nothing wrong. We did a lot wrong. How did that impact you . As i read your book, even from the revolutionary war on, we didnt do everything right. We made huge mistakes. Huge mistakes. We continue to make them. Who was your favorite of all the Founding Fathers . Washington. Has to be washington. He is i have his compass. Of course you do. Im surprised you dont have a couple of his wigs. Glen gets a little kinky at times in some of these artifacts. She is sick. Let me ask you this, if there was one thing you could change about yourself, right now, what would it be be . I would ask for more clarity and patience. And thats two now. Im greedy. One thing. One thing. Now that youre on a roll, how about one more. Empathy. If you can have empathy and discernment, the world would be such much better place. Then why do you think they certain people tried to demonize you and make you out to be one of the most dangerous men in america . I dont know. I dont really care. You dont spend time worrying about it . I dont anymore. I really dont. I mean, Thomas Jefferson said if it neither picks my pocket or breaks my leg what difference does it make to me . What is the takeaway from this book . That American History is not what you think it is. Even if you hate america, its not what you think it is. Or you love america, its not what you think it is. If you can take away from this book that our miracles come from the individuals and our massacres come from the collective that wants power. All that . I just think its a great read. Yeah, we had a great time together. Did my podcast with me too. I wish people could know him the way i do. I think it would change a lot of peoples opinions.
