And its a video thats surfaced from a terror group vowing to strike during the Winter Olympics in sochi. With 17 days to go now, is Russian Security ready . And why are u. S. Officials complaining about a lack of cooperation . Lets get right to nbcs chief Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel in moscow this morning. Good morning to you. Good morning, savannah. Russian Officials Say they have security under control. But this latest threat does seem credible. And Russian Security forces are searching for one woman in particular whos gone missing whom they worried could be involved in an attack on the games. Reporter the olympic torch passed today in the city of volgograd. Around the world relay closing in on sochi. But terror groups are eyeing these olympics, too. A new threat has emerged from the very same suicide bombers. Both now dead who attacked volgograd, over the new year. In their claim, last testimony, the young men documented how theyve prepared for the attack step by step. And some time later, those men, the video claimed, killed dozens of civilians at a train station and on a bus. Volgograd was just the first wave. The next attacks will bring, quote, a surprise to the olympics. Security in sochi is already tighter than at most airports. President Vladimir Putin has said security is a National Priority and that every resource will be used. But on the sunday talk shows, theres been a chorus of concerns and complaints. Theyve now moved some 30,000 armed troops down to the region. That tells you that their level of concern is great, but we dont seem to be getting all the information we need to protect our athletes in the games. I think this needs to change. And it should change soon. I would not go. And i dont think i would send my family. But why attack the olympics . Mostly revenge. Russia is fighting a lowlevel war in the caucuses. Awe muslim majority territory. A territory less than 1,000 miles from sochi. The republic of dagastan is especially violent. And thats where the suicide bombers say theyre from. The Winter Olympics arent really the target, russia is. The games, analysts say, are just an opportunity to grab attention, and to try to harm Vladimir Putin. Reporter security is only one point of u. S. russia tension. Another, of course, is edward snowden, the nsa leaker who now lives in russia with some u. S. Officials suggesting he had help from russia. Other Officials Say he acted alone. Richard, thank you very much. Here at home, another blast of the dangerous cold is heading back to the midwest and northeast. Dylan, dare we say it . The polar vortex part ii . It is another polar vortex. Were going to see it set up shop and weaken a little bit. We are looking at normally a nice, compact vortex up through the north pole. But what happens is, its going to weaken over the next couple of days, it allows the jet stream to dip very far to the south, and we get a taste of what is normally located up near the north pole. This is not going to be as cold as last time because the heart of it is going to stay up across canada. We are going to see the jet stream dip down to the south and produce very much below normal temperatures. In fact, we will even see below normal temps extend as far south as florida. Chicago on tuesday, about ten degrees, 23 in new york city, minneapolis, about three, and were looking at 38 degrees in atlanta and 56 in orlando, 16 degrees below average. Not as bad as last time, but it is going to be brutally cold tuesday into wednesday, too. Bundle up. Great. Dylan, thank you. Well get a check of the rest of the forecast in a moment. On to a big story out of iran. Well the u. N. Nuclear agencies is confirming that iran has halted the sensitive enrichment uranium work as part of the landmark deal it struck. Nbcs Andrea Mitchell has the latest. Good morning, natalie. The u. N. Inspectors are reporting today that iran has indeed complied with the groundbreaking commitment to stop enriching uranium for nuclear fuel. Inspectors are now in iran, basically unplugging Nuclear Equipment at key facilities. European foreign ministers, now, are meeting already in brussels this morning to approve an easing of sanctions on iran immediately. The u. S. Is expected to follow suit. In all, about 7 billion of 100 billion of sanctions will be eased for six months while iran and the west try to work out a permanent deal. On another front, the u. N. Has overnight invited iran to take part in peace talks in switzerland. The u. S. Objects to iran joining the talks until it commits to the removal of president assad. If iran does come to these talks, the Syrian Opposition may boycott the meeting. Andrea mitchell following all the developments in washington this morning. Thank you. Theres breaking news out of iraq this morning where half a dozen bomb blasts killed at least 21 people and wounded 58 in baghdad. The bloodiest attack happened in the abujeer district. The southern part of the iraqi capital. A car bomb near a crowded market killed seven people and wounded 18. An american held captive in north korea spoke out this morning. Missionary kenneth bae appeared under guard in pyongjong. He directly asked the u. S. Government to help secure his release. Clashes in ukraines capital intensified overnight injuring several people, police buses were set on fire in the citys center. A group of radical activists attacked riot police with sticks to try to make their way toward the parliament building. Violence is part of a twomonth crisis in the country. After the president chose to freeze ties with the European Union and pursue a bailout from russia. Heavy damage reported in new zealand this morning after a strong earthquake there. And this eagle sculpture inspired by the hobbit film came crashing down at the airport after the 6. 2 magnitude quake. The tremor was Strong Enough to do damage to homes and buildings. And a dramatic rescue sunday after a man and his dog fell through the ice of a missouri lake. And take a look, you can see how firefighters were able to crawl toward the victim. Rescuers say theyve been practicing this move for this exact situation for months now. Sunday, did you see, they had to put the skills to the test. The rescue complicated by the fact the victim was deaf and had his hearing aid had shorted out. Eventually, they pulled the man out of the water and the dog was able to get out on his own. Both of them are expected to be okay. Thank goodness they trained for situations like that. Paid off. Certainly did. All right, ms. Polar vortex, what else is going on . Polar vortex in one part of the country, got to be warm somewhere. Where . Out west. Yes. And not too far west, oklahoma into texas where temperatures are going to stay above average. We have this ridge in the jet stream that is kind of the opposite of the dip in the jet stream the east coast is seeing. This is always a good thing if you want sunny, dry weather. Of course, california could really use a break from this pattern and start to get some rain in the area. But, unfortunately, this High Pressures going to stay in control for at least the foreseeable future. Temperatures running about 10 to 15 degrees above average and no end in sight to that. The mayor of hoboken, new jersey, met with federal prosecutors on sunday after she claimed over the weekend that the Governors Office conditioned Hurricane Sandy relief funds to her support of a separate redevelopment project. Nbcs kelly odonell is in new jersey. Reporter good morning. The governor spoke at a firehouse here making her first statements about the allegations denying she did not give sandy relief. This is at a time of past the bridge traffic jam. Christie coming and going from Republican Fund raisers this weekend. One supportive ally, the democratic mayor of hoboken made a series of tv appearances against christies administration. Not fair for the governor to hold sandy funds hostages because he wants to give back to one private developer. Reporter she met at several hours at their request with the Attorneys Office and promised to provide any requested information and testify under oath. Zimmer claims the funds will be held. Pulled my in the parking lot and she said if you tell anyone, ill deny it. Reporter Christies Office rejected the allegations. And said they are false. He said hoboken received 70 million in aid. More relief money is expected. Further adding the 100 million that zimmer requested was for future flood control. Christies supporters pointed out that zimmer has changed her story. Mayor zimmer said she didnt believe any hold up in the funds had anything to do with any kind of retribution for not endorsing the governor. Zimmer explained why she had not come forward sooner. I didnt think anyone would believe me. I really didnt. Reporter and the Lieutenant Governor says all the facts will come out. She says she is committed to the relief for hoboken. She says the version by the mayor does not square with her memory. She said there was no putting together of sandy relief and developing. This sis a changing story. Savannah. Thank you. Lets bring in former republican congressman Joe Scarborough host of msnbcs morning joe. Good morning. The facts of this are pretty complex. How does it strike you . Do you think this is a credible claim . Or do you look at this as political enemies starting to smell blood in the water and piling on . You know, i think its politics 101. Unfortunately, you see it in washington and around the country where somebodys sitting at 65 Approval Ratings and youre a mayor and you want things for your town, you sit there and smile and tweet like she did. Chris christie, hes a great guy and great guy for new jersey. When the investigators start swirling around and theres blood in the water, you then reveal in your diary that you wept like a child, that you were heartbroken there wasnt a santa claus after all and that Chris Christie ran a corrupted administration. This isnt especially shocking. I will tell you, it is especially troubling for Chris Christies future, political career. A month ago around here we were talking about how he was going to get conservatives on his side to be the next president of the united states. But now the questions are being asked around the table offair. Is he going to survive the next year as governor of new jersey . These are tough, tough times for Chris Christie. As hes in this survival mode, we saw a different tact from him. Aggressively pushing back from the hoboken mayors claim. Not just on the fact of the story, but the net or that broke the story, msnbc. Chris christies spokesperson said msnbc is a partisan network thats been almost gleeful in their efforts attacking him. I know governor christies a frequent guest on your show. What do you make of that allegation . Theyre obviously not talking about morning joe because John Heilemann calls our show good morning, trenton, because we love Chris Christie so much around here. But listen, you can attack the network if you want to, there are a lot of people that go after him gleefully, thats not shocking. But heres the bottom line, you can push back against whatever network you want to push back against. The Lieutenant Governor needs to come out today and say what was said about her in the parking lot was a lie. And if she cant do that, theyve got a real problem. And i suspect if the u. S. Attorneys being talked to, shes going to have to say that under oath. This is Chris Christies biggest problem. If Chris Christie is not telling the truth, are there 15 people going to perjure themselves for Chris Christie, close aides, the person that was going to run the new Jersey Republican party that ran his campaign . We said it before, if Chris Christies telling the truth, hell be fine. And if hes not telling the truth, he wont survive. None of us know the answer to those questions. But certainly, this weekend was just sort of one more story. And this unfolding story that makes a lot of republican donors. And this is a big political story here nationwide starting to scratch their heads going, is this guy really our best chance to beat Hillary Clinton in 2016 . A high profile San Francisco attorney now involved in a case of two Bay Area High School basketball coaches fired over recent allegations of hazing. According to the San Francisco chronicle two players on the woodside High School Basketball team were beaten, gagged and duct taped to chairs by their teammates during a road trip last month. Attorney chris dolan says he is considering legal action against the high school district. Dolan made headlines recently as the attorney for the family of jahi mcmath. There are a couple of lighter snow showers back through eastern wisconsin, into parts of michigan and upstate new york. What we are going to see are the clipper systems that move in from the north. But theres one in particular thats going to develop itself a little bit through the midatlantic. And it is looking like most models keep it offshore just enough to brush the east coast with the snow, including new york city and new england. If this backs further to the west, we could see significant higher snowfall totals. Right now, were looking at one to three inches. And along the immediate well, were not talking about snow, not even rain. In fact, were talking about another round of record warmth for this afternoon. But there is rain in the forecast. 74 degrees today along the peninsula, 71 San Francisco and 73 degrees in the north bay for today. So showers arent expected until next week. Japanese fishermen have herded more than 250 bottle nose dolphins to pens in a cove and plan to kill most of them and sell the rest to aquariums. Kennedy tweeted the hunt is inhumane and the u. S. Opposes it. The hunt first brought into the spotlight after the 2009 documentary the cove. The fishermen say its a traditional part of their livelihood. Pilot whales are fighting for their survival off the coast of florida. Two dozen of the animals became stranded in shallow waters near naples sunday. This was pretty minor, slimming here, smoothing here and coverup along the chest. But when its the body positive lena dunham, some are saying theres a disconnect. Lena dunham certainly looks beautiful suggestively perched on the edge of a bathtub, but does she look like lena dunham . Within two hours of posting a 10,000 reward for the untouched images, the website jezebel got what looked to be their answer. They lengthened her legs, slenderized her neck, brought her jaw in. The problem according jezebel is dunham is the poster girl for being real. On her hbo show girls, she not only embraces but flaunts her quote, unquote imperfections. They take her and hide these imperfections we knew were there. Doesnt make a lot of sense. For years, jezebel has made a mission of outing photo shop fashion images, most famous was faith hills redbook cover. Since then, the fashion industry as a whole has been criticized for its unrealistic portrayal of women. In just 37 seconds, this Youtube Video shows how much photo shop can alter appearances. Not to mention recent covers where, elle showed just a portrait of mindy kaling. They didnt respond directly to the dunham criticism but wrote in part, lena is a strong, confident woman who charts her own path and makes her an inspiring role model and a perfect cover for our february issue. As for dunham herself, she says shes not sure what all the fuss is about, saying, i havent been keeping track of all the reactions, but i know some people have been very angry about the cover and that confuses me a little. I dont understand why. Photoshop or no, having a whom who is different from the typical vogue cover girl could be a bad thing. Now jezebel itself is coming under fire. Some calling the bounty of 10,000 a witch hunt. And considering how minor the changes were, they were trying to create a controversy where there really wasnt one. All right. Thank you so much. Theres outrage and then outrage about the outrage. Where do you come down on this . Do you think vogue deserves scorn or credit for putting a real woman on the cover . Well, goes both ways. You have two brands, savannah, theyre like smashing into each other. One brand youve got lena dunham who says, look, be yourself, embrace your body the way it is. But the problem is, thats not what vogue is. Its a magazine that says, look, you want to be on the cover, its not really real. We photoshop, air brush, do all those things. These two brands conflict. And the problem is, when that happens, you want to be on the cover, lena dunham in my view went along with it to be on the cover. And i think shes great. Shes saying to her fans, i dont understand what all this is about. She does because thats not why they love her. Its not like it was a dramatic transformation shes unrecognizable. If you look at some of the before and after pictures, is it really so dramatically different . I think theres a controversy because not only do you have these photos in this magazine with this very selfassured woman. But you also know theyre photo shopped. And on the other hand, you have this website highlighting photoshopping and saying this is not right, we dont want it, she doesnt need it, but they paid money for the photos and they dissected the photos bit by bit and feels like possible body shaming and also feeling like maybe were doing more harm than good. The other thing, first of all, she looks great. Ive looked at both. And her brand is not going to take a hit in this way. She looks great either way. I just wish she would be up front and say, look. If she said if you want to see what i really look like, watch the series. The funny thing is this, the art to me is about they put feathers on her, had a pigeon thing, thats great. But when they shaved down her jaw and made her hips, thats not art. Thats really saying we dont like the way you look and were going to change it for the cover of vogue. Thats fashion, not her brand, in my opinion. Either way, shes still a star. There was a time when people didnt necessarily know about photoshopping. They werent aware of how much retouching was done. Maybe they didnt really look like these impossible to get images. Now we do know about it. And arent people buying magazines like vogue buying the fantasy . Theyre not buying a nature magazine. I see what youre saying. But the studies keep showing us that the more women and girls see these images that are perfect, the more body shaming we do, the more body bulldying as i call it and presenting an audience. And we dont want them to look at themselves and say, im not good enough. And if lena dunhams not good enough, how will i be good enough . Shes a role model for everyone. The fun movies. The fun movies. I do have to say, the best wig goes to American Hustle. Of course. The best wigs and the best coats. Best costumes. Best costumes, American Hustle. Im a serious film watcher. Thats an easy way to break it down, i think. Yeah, its hard to say. And right along this dip, we have these areas of low pressure that start to develop. These are a little big clipper systems that are moving through. And they are producing some snowfall. So watch over the course of the day today, we will see snow showers, light in chicago and start to fill in across southern ohio. Watch as we go into tuesday during the day. This area of low pressure redevelops off the midatlantic coastline. And if this backs further to the west, this could be a bigger deal, especially for tuesday into tuesday night. And theres the possibility we could end up with about 3 to 6 inches. But again, we have to watch the track of that storm. Further west means more than 3 to 6 inches up hey, good morning to you. You can have a dream, but lets talk about the reality in making this dream come true. Well, you have to have a realistic plan, as well, as you follow this dream. And you need to start by surveying the marketplace, see whats out there. Im sure susan did this to figure out where you want to target your market. And be flexible with your idea. You may need to modify as things change and im sure over a decade that business has evolved quite a bit. And create a short Business Plan. You want to make sure you have a plan there of who youre going to sell to, how much youre going to sell. What is going to make it unique, how youll make a profit. How did you go about developing your first product and then, you know, going through and carrying forward with the Business Plan and actually launching a company . Well, i have always wanted to be a fashion designer. Ive had this passion for handbags for a long time. I was able to draw off of some visions that i had as a young girl when i first started designing in my mothers closet. But youre right, how do you take that vision and turn it into a multimillion Dollar Company . Well, it takes determination, takes a lot of hard work, but for me, i actually you have to take a step. You have to go for it. At some point, youre going to think it to death. And you wont do it. Youve got to take steps every single day to get towards your goal. So for me, i went overseas and developed the product right then and there. And you have strategies, quickly, so people watching can follow their dreams. Number one, remember your why. Witnesses say at least one person drove away after the shooting. In San Francisco, meanwhile, a suspect in custody. Two others recovering after a double shooting there in the tenderloin. Wild, wild west town. In the gunnison natural forest. The downtown is just amazing. And so is the mountain. It is cool because it is one of the largest resorts on the continent with one base area. If your kids are old enough to ski on your own, everyone funnels down to the one base. It is family friendly. They have an Adventure Park with tubing and ice skating, climbing wall, zip line. The property i like is the lodge at mountaineer square. From 146 a night in february, a member of the preferred hotel group and all suites property, great for families. Park city, utah, another great spot. A lot of people love park city. One of those quintessential ski towns, great. There is three ski resorts here that have great ski schools and family skiing areas. But that is unique about park city is that you have access to the utah olympic park, which was home to the 2002 Winter Olympics and now a training center. But there are cool experiences. You can take bobsled rides down an olympic track. You have someone with you, but it goes pretty fast. You can take a chair lift ride to the top of the highest altitude ski jump and get to take a chair lift back down. Dont worry. Dont have to jump.
