And the stories coming out are heart breaking, young kids tech messageing their parents in those final moment itself. Yeah. I hope we can, the boat went over on that one side. There is a particular area of the boat they are concentrateing on pocket there is where survivors told you ru could be. It is our top story. Lets go to seoul, south korea with the latest. Eunice, good morning. Good morning, savannah. Emergencteams used flood lights and flares to search the stricken vessel through the night. They are continuing their efforts this morning. The south korean coastguard says the visibility in the waters is less than 2 metres. They are laying tents so divers can reach the inner most parts of the ship to find survivors. Those rescues have been taken to a monita island. Painstaking and heart breaking, families in anguish this morning, waiting for any news. This parent saying they repeatedly said the same thing, nothings with new. Minsters and lawmakers visiting here are useless after what was supposed to be a fun fourday field trip turned into a frantic race against time. One student shot this video. The water is widening, she creams. Others teft texted parent, mom, in case i dont get a chance to speak to you, i love you. Dad, the ferry has tilted too much. I cant move. Survivors taken to monita Kendall Island now sharing horrifying detate about their ordeal, this student saying, i almost got trapped. I was told i could go outside, i could jump through the water through the exit, but i couldnt. Another saying, i tried to reach the window at the front of the cabin using a fire extinguisher, hitting it three times, but it won break. This ship water 480 feet long that sailed tuesday from a portcy near seoul just 12 hours after it departed, it sank in 120 feet of water. There is still no official explanation for why the ferry sinks, while zriefrs and distraught family members wait for the ships captain hiding at sea apologized saying, im really sorry and deeply ashamed. I dont know what to say. The government said three cranes were being moved to the site of the accident and would arrive on friday. Lets turn to leiutenant arlow abramson the spokesman for the commanders in north korea. Leiutenant abramson, good morning to you, sir. Reporter good morning to you as well. Thanks for having me. First, i would like to say on behalf of the United States navy, our thoughts are with the families of the korean passenger ships during what we know is a doctor difficult and uncertain time. Its an incredibly difficult time, sir. I know there is the uss bonnham rashard is in that area. To what extent is the u. S. Navy involved in search and rescue this morning . Thats correct. We do have the uss bomb erashard, an Amphibious Assault ship that has about 3,000 sailors and marines. They have an osprey aircraft as well as an mh60 helicopters, currently, we have two mh60 search and rescue capable helicopters that are contributeing to the search and rescue operation and we remain in very close contact with the onscene commander. I also should point out, we have a very close relationship with the coastguard and the navy and we do rehearse these types of operations and well continue to support as required by if republic of korea. You refer to it as a search and rescue operation. I think thats the question everyone is wondering the morning. Is there hope there may still be survivors there . Well, from the u. S. Navy perspective, as long as we are tasked to do search and rescue, which we are currently still doing, we still remain optimistic. We still hold out hope that there will be some survivors out there. So well continue to work tirelessly alongside our part first and the republic of korean navy and coastguard until were asked to stop searching, but currently our people are out there assisting in this effort. I dont want to put you on the spot, but i have heard given how quickly that ships turned over and sank, there is a possibility that there may be some air pocket itself. Do you have anything to add to that . Well, what can i tell you is, you know, every search and rescue operation is very unique and very difficult and as you know and ive heard and ive reported on, the area where this, these, the area where this occurred is the area of hay traffic and the weather today was not very good. So it is a very difficult area, but, again, our forces are trained to our search and rescue and well continue to support the republic of korean five and coastguard as requested. Today 11 planes and ships are being used to search the indian ocean. Katie, hello. Reporter hey there, carson, a little breaking news to report. The oil break that ocean hills detected a few days ago, it has been detected and found to not be a part of the 370. They may stop the visual search on the water as early as tomorrow, but there is a little good news, blue fin 21 was finally able to make its First Successful pass along the ocean floor. Three miles below the surface blue fin 21 successfully finished its Third Mission making it a 3d sonar map of the southern indian oaks seabed, after three aborted missions, this was the first 16hour scan it was able complete. So far the robotics submarine has mapped 35 square miles. The visuals, there were many suggested on the blue fin 21 were very clear. Not in finding what we were looking for, but what the seabed looks like. A close start to what experts say would be a long process. This really is a tech for the logical feat. A technological feat, a formidable challenge. If we have the technology. An oceanographer at the university of Western Australia says the most challenging aspect of the search is the sheer depth. Its 450 times of what we experience at the surface. So there are very few vehicles in the world which can actually go down to that death. Police say one of the drivers was drinking and they got a call for help just after midnight and once the authorities arrived they found a man with lifethreatening injuries and he later died at the hospital. The driver of the second car was also hurt. The crash remains under investigation but so far they say they think there was alcohol involved in this situation. Was Reeva Steenkamp standing or falling when she was shot . Facing the door or at an angle . The defense forensics theory, reeva wasnt standing or defensive. She collapsed quickly after the first shot. Thus, the impact of the bullet hit the hip and she lost voluntary control, hes unstable on one leg. She cannot use the right leg to move so shes collapsing. Reporter in or the today, pistorius plugged his ears, unable to hear the details as the forensics expert held up the actual prosthetic leg he wore the night of the shooting. A masked man jumps out of a van, grabbed a 4yearold boy from a park bench in sequim, washington, and then goes back to the van and races away. Ive never run so fast in my life. They learn the abduction isnt real and the kidnapped boy is related to the men in this video. We didnt think about the kids that we were endangering. Jason and Jeremy Holden posted several on their youtube page. Including a staged Armed Robbery. But they insist the fake kidnapping was meant to teach a lesson about abduction awareness. Police think one of the drivers was drinking and they got a call for help just after midnight, once they got to the scene, they found a man with lifethreatening injuries. They originally told us that the driver had died at the hospital, now theyre updating the situation and saying the man is still on life support. The driver of the second car was also injured. The home video is a tool that aided patients in terms being autistic earlier. Not making eye contact, not playing with toys appropriately. It was found that 95 of the time accurately identified children who were autistic. This would be a wonderful tool in may going the diagnosis earlier. Right now, the average age of diagnosis is age 4. But the average treatment time is age 2 or 3. What are the symptoms and signs theyre looking for . Theyre looking for things like being able to maintain eye contact which is a important tool. Poor language skills. Not playing with toys in an appropriate way. And not responding to social cues as well as others would. Earlier, we intervene and help to treat kids autism, the better they do long term and adjusting. Dr. Davis, the next one i mentioned in the leadin, cognitive decline can begin as early as 24 years old. Thats scary. The study takes into account using video games as well as we get older we lose the ability to concentrate and sort of multitask. They think as early as 24 years old this can happen. Now the problem i have with the study, very small decline at age 24. The next age they measure is 15 years later. Yes, by 40, you should have a little bit of a delay. Whats good about the study, although we lose some ability to focus or concentrate, were smarter at sort of taking the issue at hand in making decisions. Whatever the challenge would be used, experiences from before, to sort of make a rapid decision, although it may be a little slower, delayed in making that condition process, we use our past experience to shape our goals or make our decision based upon the question at hand. So we can gain some new skills as well then . In a way, we can. But also we use what we have in place to make a decision. So thats good. We lose a little ability in sort of the Rapid Response in what were thinking but at the same time, what we have in place from previous experience, we use that to make a decision given to us. Next one, 1 in 20 adults dr. Peterson is misdiagnosed in at Outpatient Clinic. Thats a big number. This is information that just came out. Its hard to assess how often misdiagnosis are made. This study was able to extrapolate some data for us by looking at three articles. One was mistakes made in the primary care setting. And one was delaying diagnosis of colon cancer and lung cancer. It found 5 of the time theres a delay in diagnosis for patients with these these issues. So about 12 million american americans and 6 million of those are potentially harmful outcomes. So, its a wakeup call. And its potentially opening the door to tune into where along the protocol a physician is making these errors, how can we improve the quality of our health care. And the same question is, how do you become more proactive when you go to the emergency room or an Outpatient Clinic then . Correct. This is predominantly looking at the Outpatient Clinic and this is the first of its kind on a scale to determine when misdiagnosis is actually happening. Its more of a wakeup call and it will potentially new pursue how do we intervene to correct the problems. Thank you so much. Tell us about your role. You usually play sort of dark roles in movies. And such a bubbly effervescent young lady. I think because i am a very happy person, i like to play the darker characters because it is real acting for me. Very opposite of who i am. So basically i play a girl ned caitlin gabriel. She is involved in a school shooting. And she survives. But her best friend and, i think 12 others, die. And she, before she even wakes up out of a coma, she is accused of a conflict in a sense. So basically the story really revolves around what is truth and if your truth isnt told, how can you survive, how can you then live your life if what you believe is true isnt happening. Where do you go, in your imagination as a young woman who by your owne admission had a great family life and none of that stuff touched you, where do you go for inspiration for stuff like that . You know in that sense it really just acting and it really is finding things that you can grasp on to. At the end of the day, it is a fictionalized story. So i dont want to get too real about it, but we have gotten a lot of information from columbine and a lot of it is based on that, and we have ive done a lot of research through that and talked to a survivor and shes been an amazing help for me and shes really helped me through this process. And i want to be as true to it and honestly i want to do this play to be the voice of the victims. Because thats never whos told in these shootings. Always about the shooter. We never hear what the victims are going through. I cant believe youre 17. Youre inned my senten ed in mi cant believe youre 17. The maturity in all of that. Do you have siblings . Officials say the babys father was supposed to drop the 9monthold baby boy off with a babysitter before going to work, but he forgot. The father has not been taken into custody and the investigation is ongoing. Crews are digging through the rubble of a former kntv studio after search dogs hinted they may have found human remains. Investigators arrived just about a half hour ago to begin the search. That building caught on fire on sunday and the burned beams were broken down earlier this week. This is my story about tm. 46 years ago, i was 17 years old. I came home from work while i was pumping gas in detroit because my arms hurt so badly. I couldnt grip anything. I took a six hour nap hoping i would feel better. When i woke up, i was paralyzed from the neck down. I could only turn my head, breathe and yell for help. I thought i was dying. Well, 46 years later, i have to say i have had a blessed life. My wife of 42 years and my boys have kept me going. I always had a strong and positive attitude that i can do anything. I do have some bad days that creep in from time to time, however, all i had to do was to look at my family and that kept me going. I practice my walking every chance i got. It would take me a while, but i was determined and i did it. I had to retire in 2003 because of my tm. And now i can devote my time to something im really passionate about. Im setting up a foundation. Our mission is to raise money to support spinal cord research. One day we will be free from a disease that is so traumatic on patients and families. Having tm has been very difficult. However 22. 3 kilometers. You can live a productive and fulfilling life.
