KNTV Today September 18, 2014

Lost and friend, the bridal party, family members getting the call they awaited for. There she is. Baby where are you . The happy homecoming today, thursday, september 18, 2014. From nbc news, this is today. With matt lauer and Savannah Guthrie live from Rockefeller Plaza. Im matt lauer, and savannah continues on maternity leave. Nice moment for the bridal party. Captured that live, cant believe we had that moment, amazing. Fell out of communication after the her cane in mexico, and, by the way, the remnants of that storm is causing problems in the southwest. It really is. This is a long lasting system. In fact, take a look at the flooding falling in the southwest. This was el paso, etexas, heavy downpours, flash flood warnings overnight, high water rescues, parts of i10 shut down, and it continues today as we show you the latest, the rem napts of odile stretching from dallas to south of austin caught up in the stationary front. We are watching the activity, and its going to keep falling, the rain will continue and continue. Were looking at during the day today that remnant low, whats left of odile, moves slowly east. As it does, heavy thunderstorms train over the area. We have flood watches and warnings on into west texas far east as austin. Flood watches as far east as houston as well. Rainfall amounts, though they dont look heavy, but an inch and a half to two and a half inches per hour in the southwest and up to 3 to 5 inches per hour in southeastern texas. Thats where we look at the big flood threat. Theres a lot of rain that fell overnight in arizona, and thats where we find dylan dreier by one of the washes, and that looks fierce behind you. Reporter good morning, al, these washes are designed to take water that rushes down the mountains and steer them in the right direction. Opposed to this traveling along the roadways and in areas where we could see more flash flooding. A lot of the water is actually originating from mexico, the Higher Elevations out there that, which, as you know, was hit hard by the hurricane. Combine that with two and a half inches of rain the area picked up yesterday yesterday alone, the fact that its seen five inches of rain in the last 48 hours. That raises the flooding issue in the entire area. However, residents were on top of things sandbagging early and well prepared this time around because it was just ten days ago that the remnants of hurricane norberg caused so many issues in the same area. Now the threat is pushing into new mexico and panhandle of texas so thats the next area well watch. Al . All right, thank you so much. Again, this will continue right on into the weekend as that system gets caught up along the front and mean more rain and more flooding for the midsection of the country into the southwest, guys. Were going to see the effects of odile into the weekend. Amazing how long it lasted. Al, thank you so much. A chilling terror plot foiled in australia overnight. Supporter of isis were going to randomly grab people in sidney and publicly execute them. We have more on the story. Jim, good morning. Reporter good morning, hoda. Australian Officials Say Counterterrorism Police intercepted a phone call two days ago in sydney between amar, 22, and another, 33, believed to be a high ranking isis operative in the middle east running a unit in australia. According to the police, the ore was to show isiss reach by carrying out and videotaping a public beheading of someone, as you say, picked randomly in the streets of sidney. One still at large with an arrest warrant out for him. Police say the plot had been in the works since may, and it was just last week that the Prime Minister raised the terrorist alert in australia from medium to high. This is just the kind of nightmare scenario, hoda, the u. S. And allies fear. In this case, dozens of isis veterans return from the fight to commit terrorism at home. This one, it appears, was caught in time. Thank you so much for that report. In the meantime, the nfl deals with another Domestic Abuse case this morning. A member of the arizona cardi l cardinals now deactivated after being arrested. This as corporate pressure is on the league and its commissioner, roger goodell, mounts. Peter alexander has the latest. Good morning. Good morning to you. As nfl kicks off another game tonight trying to put the crisis behind them, one more arrest offering a new face of the leagues Domestic Violence scand scandal. The Arizona Cardinals dwyer charged with aggravated assault after two fights in july. The alleged victims . His 18 month old son and childs mother. After he was physically assaulted, he took a shoe and threw it at their 18 month old child. The woman denied he was home, but he was hiding in the bathroom and threatened to harm himself. The suspects threat of commits suicide occurred in an attempt to keep her from calling the police. Wednesday, the Carolina Panthers announced the probowler, hardy, the only player under scrutiny actually convicted in a domestic case is taking a paid leave week, 772,000 a week. Monday, the vikings brought back peterson fighting a charge of using his stick to discipline his 4yearold son. Wednesday, they shipped him out. We strive as an organization to do the right thing. Reporter and not making a public appearance in more than a week, the nfl commissioner, roger goodell, considered the most powerful man in supports 18 months ago. Hes made himself the face of the n phenomena, and hes now invisible. Thats the problem now with this going on. Hes just not there. Reporter the league said dwyers case will be reviewedunderpar the personnel conduct policy which could be a six game suspension. Facing witherring criticism for the handling of the situation, most powerful commissioner in prosports r and he did not knock anyone out. He did not discipline anyone with a switch. How much responsibility does he bear . He bears tremendous responsibility because now metaphorically its like hes been hit. Hes been hit and the credibility of the league is hit. He set himself up as the law. He set himself up as the new sheriff this town for the National Football league, but then ae allows prosecutors in Atlantic City to take the lead on the ray rice thing, and i laugh when people stand behind due process. They are not a court. They are not a legal system. They are a great big fat company. The league says itments to do the right thing, the owners want to do the right thing. Occurs to me they make a decision, stand back and wait for reaction, and when its outraged, they make the opposite decision. Theres not a moral compass in that. Not only not a moral compass, but they make up the rules on cocktail napkin, and when they dont like the reaction, they change them again. Rice is suspended for two games, incredibly boneheaded wrong side of history decision. Then the video. The circumstances of the case have not changed. Now theres indefinite suspension. Peterson reinstated and now put on indefinite suspension. Over the weekend in minnesota, a huge legal day, di covered due process, undiscovered it, and now a friend of mine, hill, said yesterday, if doing the right things was a drinking game, they would have been pieeyed by the end of the conference because they said 20 times yesterday, why not do the right thing on monday when they reactivated him. Great for your perspective. An amazing situation. Later in the show, answering questions about the nfl scandals, but right now, heres hoda.
