With matt lauer and sa vvannah t guthrie from sutudio 1a. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery . I think if you look at it side by side, they do look pretty identical. Its a controversy thats broiling that well get to a little later on. Lets get to our top story this morning. Were talking about more violent storms set to impact tons of people on the eastern side of this country after they were slammed by storms on monday. We have al roker and dillon covering this. Dillon, good morning to you. Reporter good morning to you. The rain is still coming down hard here in atlanta, but it was at 5 30 this morning when a Severe Thunderstorm Warning went up for the city. We saw extremely gusty winds, rain was coming in sideways, we even almost lost our whole setup here with that wind. This is the whole squall of storms moving through yesterday, responsible for two tornadoes, one that took down two homes and even took two lives. Severe weather spread 800 miles across the south, bringing damaging winds, heavy rain and possible tornadoes. And causing downed power lines, leaving thousands without power. This time lapse video showing the storms tearing through arkansas. From nashville, tennessee where weather channels dave malkoff had a close call. That was right on top of me. To dora, alabama where a 75yearold woman died when a tree fell on her home. We lost a good lady in our community. Reporter and in ash down, arkansas i was in a dead sleep, you know. All of a sudden my husband shakes me and he says, baby, hilt the floor. Reporter destruction from a possible tornado with homes damaged and tractors overturned. We had things thrown everywhere. It gives us a good indication that this was a tornado that came through this area. Reporter a marine and father of three died when his home was hit. And their mother is in intensive care right now, but shes stable. And the father didnt make it. Reporter in texas and louisiana, tens of thousands of people without power after possible tornadoes there. Now, this line of storms is quickly racing to the east, and with it so, too, is that threat of Severe Weather. While were not looking at the extreme outbreak we saw yesterday and last night, we still have to focus, al, on some strong storms possible through the carolinas this afternoon. Absolutely right, dillon. Thank you very much. 16 states, 45 Million People under the gun for this storm. In fact, the risk of Severe Weather stretching from roanoke all wait down to daytona, as far west as tallahassee and atlanta in this as well. As we look at the live radar, you can see just how heavy the storms are. This area shaded in red, thats where we have tornado watches into early afternoon hours, so were going to continue to track it. We have flash flood warnings also starting to fire up throughout a good portion of the Central Plains on into the south. Rainfall amounts anywhere from 1 to 2 inches, but we could be locally looking at 2 to 4 from southwestern virginia to georgia, 3 to 5 inches in the panhandle. Also, gonzolo, weve been watching this hurricane. It is wrapping up. Tropical storm warnings canceled for puerto rico. However, this storm is expected to become the strongest for the hurricane season. 100 miles east of san juan, moving northwest at 113. Heres the big problem. If you know anybody in or around bermuda, or youre planning a trip to bermuda, this is bad news. Sometime late friday this will be a category 2 storm making its way across bermuda, which was already devastated by fay last week. So this could be very bad news. And a little bit later on, were going to tell you about another Tropical Storm that may be affecting hawaii. So its a very busy time. Thank you very much. Now to the ebola crisis. The cdc is now monitoring all hospital workers who treated dallas victim Thomas Duncan after a 26yearold nurse contracted the virus. And this morning we know more about her and about the care she is receiving. Nbc National Correspondent kate snow is in dallas for us this morning. Kate, good morning. Reporter natalie, good morning to you. Last night we learned that dr. Kent brantly, the First American treated for ebola who survived, he has donated his blood once again to this 26yearold nurse, that blood hopefully rich in antibodies. She is in stable condition and were learning more about her. Reporter at our lady of Fatima Church in ft. Worth, prayers in vietnamese for nine a pham, who always wanted to be a nurse, receiving her degree in Critical Care in the last few months. Her mother urged her to quit working with ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan, but she stayed. She says shes been treated very well and she feels very comfortable. Reporter for the third time, eric brantly donated blood. One man she was in contact with when she was potentially infectious is also in the hospital in isolation from the company he works for. Then theres her dog, her king charles spaniel named bentley who she has been worried about. Excalibur, a dog who was around ebola was put down. She tweet aid photo to show how nice his new digs are. That dog will be the best caredfor dog in the united states. This young lady is a hero and she is concerned about her health and that dog. And we are going to take care of that dog. That dog is part of the reason the cleaning crew saturated the sidewalk outside with disinfectant. Did someone tell you she had been on that concrete . No. We just knew she had a dog and there were other residents walking their dogs out in the front and the back. Reporter ebola can only live on surfaces for a short time and scientists arent sure if dogs can transmit the disease. At the hospital monday, a town hall meeting where the staff prayed. The big question remains, why did pham become infected on the job while wearing protective gear . We have not identified a specific problem that led to this infection. We have identified a series of things where we can make the care safer and easier for Health Care Workers who are providing it. Reporter overnight a u. N. Worker who had been working in liberia and was being treated in germany died. Some better news, though, coming out of nebraska. Our freelance cameraman for nbc news is improving there, so much so that hes now tweeting from his hospital bed writing, back on twitter, feeling like im on the road to good health. Endless gratitude for the good vibes. Thank you. Questions are being raised about a possible breach in protocol that led to nina phams infection. It requires careful guidelines for hospital workers. We saw that last month when we visited Emory University in atlanta where kent brantly and Nancy Writebol were effectively treated. As jason gets on this suit, we help each other get dressed and undressed. Jill morgan and Jason Slaybaugh showed us the meticulous process of putting on and taking off the protective gear. Suiting up can take almost 20 minutes and its always done in pairs with the second worker watching and helping every move. Doubling up on gloves and boots, even wearing a helmet with a builtin fan. Hes got a fan running, basically, thats pulling air from the environment through a hepa filter thats giving him a positive airway all the time with a flow of air. So hes never breathing any air from the outside room. The goal . To protect ourselves from whats in this environment, whether its the patients bodily fluids, and were making sure we dont carry any of that contamination out of that room. Reporter theyre inside the isolation room for up to four hours at a time. When we are in that room, you are all in. Eating, drinking, taking a bathroom break, all weight until you can take off that suit. Reporter outside the isolation room, there is always a second person suited up as backup for an outside observer, watching for any signs of contamination or for a misstep. If i see anything dangerous for them, well interrupt that behavior right away. Leaving isolation and taking off the suits takes just as long, the danger far from over, the risk at its greatest. Inadvertently, it seems that while trying to maintain your equipment, people actually end up contaminating themselves when theyre taking pieces of equipment off. Reporter even after the equipment is off, a three to fiveminute shower and body scrub. Everything is important to keep whatever is in this room in this room and keep it from getting out into any part of the environment. Now, in addition to all those steps, anyone who came in contact with the ebola patients was then monitored for 21 days. But as you can see, it only takes one little mistake and you can be contaminated or exposed to the virus. Its really scary to think and the levels of precaution they put in place, but its still not preventing this. Meantime, one more update on our team that covered the Ebola Outbreak in africa. Dr. Nancy snooyderman released this quote. While under voluntary quarantine guidelines, which called for our team to avoid Public Contact for 21 days, that time has passed. We remain healthy, and as a health professional, i know we have no symptoms and pose no risk to the public, but i am deeply concerned that this episode caused. We are glad ashoka appears to be getting better. Meanwhile, passengers on an American Airlines flight from San Francisco to dallas have a harrowing story to share after a midair scare led to an Emergency Landing. Betty has that story. Good morning. Good morning, natalie. That flight had just left the airport in san fran when all of a sudden the walls inside the cabin began to crack. All of a sudden there were loud popping and ripping noise. Reporter caught on camera, a terrifying moment in the air for more than 180 passengers flying on American Airlines from San Francisco to dallas. Both sides of the cabin start ripping in and tearing in. We started screaming and shouting. Just minutes after takeoff, portions of the cabin began to buckle in, forcing the plane to turn around. Initially the crew made the decision to keep flying after inspecting the damage. They peeled back the panels and checked for daltylight, and there was no oxygen masks dropping. They said, were okay for now, were going to keep going. Reporter when the pilot took a look he immediately said, were turning around and making an Emergency Landing. Reporter they said the crack was most likely caused by a broken air duct but the safety of the plane was never compromised. The cabin never lost pressure and no one was injured.
