Here in florida we have extended tornado watches in effect for georgia and florida until 2 00 this afternoon. Lets get to the maps and show you whats going on. Early this morning around 5 00 a. M. We started to see tornado activity firing up in the western panhandle, right now you can see the area of Severe Weather from orlando all the way up into parts of georgia. We have severe thunderstorm warnings, we have tornado warnings and tornado watches across a wide area as these storms push east and north. This is a wide ranging area from alabama all the way up to new york city, with potential of 1 to 2 inches of rain. Then also pushing into cold air weve got right now a twopronged attack of snow. 2 to 3 inches from ohio into western new york. Cleveland, ohio right now ground zero where dylan dreyer has the onetwo punch of this wintry mix. Good morning. Thats right. There are two sides to this storm system, a warm side and a cold side. Thats producing snow, ice, heavy rain and even severe storms down south. You know it wouldnt be a work day if i wasnt on the cold side of the storm. Here in cleveland were looking at 1 to 3 inches of snow, it doesnt sountd like much but it doesnt take much to cause problems. Take a look at Oklahoma City from sunday. A few inches of snow made a mess of the roads. This pickup truck was overturned and we saw several cars stranded on the side of the street. Further south down to slaten, texas it was a half inch of snow that caused the icy roads responsible for a multivehicle accident that did cause at least one death. Where the snow has fallen its going to stay icy as temperatures are below freezing. Further to the north were in the teens and 20s. Factor in a wind chill and it feels like we are below zero. The snow and ice today is going to stick around through the great lakes, extending down to the appalachians into new england. And parts of lake effect areas could end up with up to three feet of snow. Savannah, its hard to believe this is the same storm causing the Severe Weather down south. Well keep an eye on that. The terror group isis murdered another american. 26yearold peter kassig a former army ranger had been held over a year. President obama said the group is bent on sewing death and destruction. At a vigil friends, supporters and peters parents remembered the young man who decided to dedicate his life to helping others but paid with his own. President obama called his murder by isis an act of pure evil. The 26yearold former army ranger who served in iraq travelled to syria last year to volunteer as a medic. Militants stopped him and kidnapped him. Kassig is said to have endured torture, along with the mental trauma of watching some of his european cell mates released after their governments paid ransom. A french journalist shared food and a blanket who changed his name to abdul rahman. He wanted to help the people involved in the drama taking place in syria and thought maybe it was my youve but thought he could help. He watched his american and british cell mates taken out one by one to be murdered. He knew his time would come. Last month his father read a passage from a letter kassig wrote to him. Dont worry, dad f. I go down i wont go down thinking anything but what i know to be true. That you and mom love me more than the moon and the stars. Described as humble and generous he tried to help victims of a war and ended up becoming one of them. Unlike other isis execution video this is one did not end with a specific threat to kill another hostage. But isis still holds other hostages. Now back here to what is called unprecedented raid on a professional sports league. A surprise drug sweep targeting several nfl teams after sundays games. What they were looking for were painkillers amid allegations some teams may be dispensing drugs illegally to help keep player on the field. At the end of sundays new York San Francisco name the 49ers got a surprise visit of their own from the dea who questioned the teams medical staff before letting them leave the stadium. They were interested in anybody with the teams that might be handling medications that shouldnt be, for instance, trainers. Reporter Sally Jenkins with the Washington Post broke the story and says a half dozen traveling teams were targeted. Our reporting suggests that they did have reason to be interested in these particular teams based on interviews and information that they gathered over the last few months. In a statement the nfl said our teams cooperated with the dea today and we have no information to indicate that irregularities were found. A spokesman for the 49ers says in part t 49ers medical staff complied and the team departed the stadium as scheduled. While the bucs tweeted authorities checked in with our travel party at Baltimore Washington International and after a fiveminute delay we proceeded onto our plane without incident. The sweep comes in what has been a tough year for the nfl. Already facing sharp criticism for its handling of Domestic Abuse allegations. While the dea inspections are part of an Ongoing Investigation, triggered by the Class Action Lawsuit filed in may by former players. In the suit some 1300 former players allege they were given addictive narcotics to keep them playing through injuries. Trying to make sure that the guys who are legends of this game, doing so much for this Football Game are better taken care of. Last in the nfl asked a judge to throw out that lawsuit saying the teams and not league were responsible. As for the dea investigation its called ongoing and more teams could be targeted. Kristen dahlgren thanks. We have breaking news now tied to the ebola crisis. A surgeon who contracted the virus in africa being treated in nebraska has died. Gabe gutierrez is in omaha with the latest. Reporter dr. Martin salia had been in extremely critical condition. He had been given doses of plasma and the experimental drug zmapp. Doctors confirmed that he passed away. This morning despite plenty of prayers overnight doctors confirm the latest ebola patient on american soil, dr. Martin salia, has died. On saturday he arrived from sierra leone. A team carefully moving him to awaiting ambulance. The doctor too weak to walk. In a written statement doctors called it an hour by hour situation. Possibly even more ill than any of the patients that have been transported from western africa. Reporter he is the tenth ebola patient treated in the u. S. Previously only Thomas Eric Duncan had passed away. Dr. Salia was from west africa but a legal u. S. Resident. His son said he had not seen his dad 18 month shortly before he returned to help treat ebola patients. Though he knows the sickness is out he decided to still go and help his people because he wanted to show that he loves his people. Reporter the worst Ebola Outbreak claimed more than 5,000 lives. The 44yearold doctor had been working as a surgeon at a hospital in freetown in a video from earlier this year dr. Salia said the job was his calling. Something inside of me, people of this part of free town needed help. I took this job not because i want to but i firmly believe that it was a calling. Reporter dr. Salia had been the third ebola patient treated at this unit. He is now only the second known ebola patient to die in the u. S. Savannah. Thank you. Turn to natalie now for a story out of washington. Right. The latest from the Obama Administration says 100,000 people signed up for obamacare on saturday, the first day of the latest open enrollment. The fact that some adviser who never worked on our staff, expressed an opinion that i completely disagree with in terms of the voters is no reflection on the actual process that was run. We begin with a developing story out of berkeley where firefighters are at the scene of a fire at a victorian home near the cal campus. Crews got the call a little after 5 00 this morning. No word of any injuries but it is believed students were living at that home and had to evacuate. Investigators are looking at wiring as a possible cause of the fire that destroyed a centuryold Holy Cross Church in san jose yesterday afternoon. No one was injured but flames spared an adjacent rectory and meeting hall. Holy cross was built in 1919 and has more than a thousand parishioners. Dea conducted a surprise inspection. Team physicians and trainers were checked out at met life stadium and also surprised the buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks. While hes not talking about them, his lawyer and alleged victim are speaking out over the weekend. Craig melvin has that story for us. Good morning. Savannah, good morning to you. A new allegation actually surfaced overnight, now added to a list of accusations made by women who claim they were attacked by cosby, in some cases, decades ago. One woman who claims shes a victim wrote an oped, detailing the alleged abuse. While there are no charges against the comedian, he is battling some very unwanted headlines. With his wife, camille, by his side, legendary Comedian Bill Cosby sat silent as he was asked about the allegations. There have been serious allegations raised about you in recent days. Youre shaking your head no. Im in the news business. I have to ask the question. Do you have any response to those charges . Shaking your head no. Reporter hours later in a statement, cosbys attorney said over the last several weeks, decade old discredited allegations against mr. Cosby have resurfaced. The fact that they are being repeated does not mean theyre true. He does not intend to dignify these allegations with a comment. Reporter Barbara Bowman wrote an oped titled bill cosby raped me. Why did it take 30 years for people to believe my story . Nobody believed me. Reporter she wrote a column after hannibal burris, calling cosby a rapist went viral. Yeah, you rape women, bill cosby, so reporter days later team cosby took to the internet, posted pics of the comic and encouraged fans to retweet them. Word spread cosby would no longer be appearing on late night with David Letterman as previously scheduled. He did show up sunday night on stage in erie, pennsylvania, where fans seemed to be reserving judgment. I think hes innocent until proven guilty. Until i know its true, i wouldnt judge him. Yeah. Reporter no criminal charges have ever been filed against cosby. The 77yearold insists he has no plans to talk about any of it. But many wonder about the damaging effects to a carefully crafted image as americas loveable dad. In the court of public opinion, we give a verdict every minute of every day with the opinions that we have each and every moment we hear the story. A planned today show interview was also canceled nearly two weeks ago when cosby learned he may be asked about renewed attention on the rape allegations. The sitcom star is developing a new family comedy for nbc. It is in the early stages of development. This morning, no comment from the network. Savannah . Craig melvin, thank you very much. Is that the right way to handle it, from a legal perspective, from the pr perspective . No. If youre accused of an allegation like rape, i think people expect you to say no way to remain sigh silent, thats disturbing. These are allegations that date back in some cases, decades. Theres no Legal Recourse for the alleged victims here. Theres no way to resolve this, savannah, because the statutes of limitations have all run apparently. Either on a criminal case or civil suit . Thats right. Well never have these accusers cross examined or mr. Cosby cross examined. Were never going to analyze. The evidence. Its going to remain in legal limbo for the rest of his life. Did any of these alleged victims try to pursue a criminal case . One did in canada in 2004. The canadian authorities did not prosecute. They said there was not sufficient evidence. She pursued a civil case, then settled with a high degree of confidentiality. When you look at these stories and you start reading these allegations as you mentioned, they are just allegations. There is a thread of commonality. Right. Something similar about them. Thats what gives them the air of credibility. Not only is there a large number of them but they all tell many tell a similar story, of mr. Cosby allegedly drugging them, giving them what he said was cold medication or herbal medication. Turns out to be a heavy sedated. They wake up and say they were sexually assaulted. You dont get a cross examination and these allegations have never really been tested in a court of law. Thats whats so disturbing. The root of all of this is womens distrust of the system, to handle rape cases appropriately. Some of the alleged victims say they told people at the time and were discouraged from going to the police, discouraged from going to the legal system. Thats the root problem here. This band burst on to the scene here in the United States in 2012. An appearance on the today show. They packed our plaza. They went on from there to pack arenas around the country and around the world. And theyve just finished the stadium tour, playing for an average between 40 and 100,000 fans per show.
