Good morning to you, matt. Zelda williams will be presenting whats called a noble award this friday night here in los angeles. Its an award that recognizes humanitarian work this one honoring the challenged Athletes Foundation which provides prosthetics. Robin williams was a huge supporter, and now his daughter is doing all she can to keep his work and memory alive. Laughter was incredibly important to him. Reporter you wrote last summer that your father was one of the kindest, most generous and gentlest souls youve ever known. And i want to quote what you wrote. Quote, the entire world is forever a little darker less colorful and less full of laughter in his absence. Well just have to work twice as hard to fill it back up again. Yeah. Reporter is that why youre doing this . I dont think its sadder in general, that hes gone. I mean i think a lot of people feel his absence, but for me especially yeah its going to take a lot of work to allow myself to have the sort of fun, happy life that i had. Reporter when everything happened last summer im curious how it felt to be you because it seemed like everybody was so stunned by it. And there was so much outpouring of i hope there was outpouring of support to you. Did you feel that . It is not something thats even you can put into words, as much as i love words and have a lot of faith in them. There was an enormous outpouring of love from every corner of the world. And its not to say that people didnt know dad. They knew a dad that he was proud of them knowing. Because he was an incredibly kind and incredibly caring man. And he was also very private and very calm and very subdued. And so the side of him that people know and love and that is attached to their childhood is the characters that he had so much fun being. Hello and thats whats important and thats what a lot of people will hold on to. Thats not going anywhere. Its nice when people say my condolences. But for the most part its nice to have our private life be our private life. Reporter i lost somebody to suicide, too, so i know that theres often that sort of why did this happen question. Reporter does that seem to you like what all the people who knew your dad as a fan, all the people who loved him and his work when it happened everybody wanted to know why. How could this happen . A lot of people that have been through it and lost someone, the ones ive found that have gone on to lead very full lives found that they just had to know that theres no point questioning it and theres no point blaming anyone else for it or theres no point blaming yourself or the world or whatever the case may be because it happened. So you have to continue to move. And you have to continue to live and manage. Reporter and while it wont be easy for her, on friday night, Zelda Williams will honor Robin Williams and his legacy of giving back by presenting an award to her father and his teammates at the challenged Athletes Foundation who joined him in a triathlon every year. Dad was an extremely athletic person. Like people reporter huge biker. Robin williams met his teammate rudy when he was just 10. They were on team braveheart. And rudy who just won the gold last year he would do the swimming leg, dad would do the biking leg and he would tag in scott who is an ironman, and that was the team. Reporter zelda remembers her dad always taking people under his wing. He would meet guys there that were not participating, that had just lost limbs and were just there you know maybe a family friend brought them because they were depressed or because they needed to witness something remarkable. And he would go and talk to them. Hed be like next year i want you to do this bud. Hes done charity for as long as he had the wherewithal and the ability to do it. That was what his favorite thing other than comedy really was. And now she carries on that legacy. He didnt like people feeling like the things that were hard for them they should go through alone. And i think thats thats the big legacy for him. And for me and for my brothers is that he somehow had an enormous number of people in this world who felt that he made them feel a little less alone. But then when it was a suicide, you know it made it that much more difficult to i think, for everybody, to comprehend let alone a 25yearold daughter, a sibling, i should say, or a child. Thats just a horrible thing. And to have it play out so publicly too, to be on social media, hearing people saying awful things about your dad, its difficult. The good thing is she has this memory. She knows, really knows what her dads legacy is. He didnt like people feeling like the things that were hard for them they should go through alone. I think thats the big legacy for him and for me and for my brothers is that he somehow had an enormous number of people in this world who felt that he made them feel a little less.
