And get out fast. Passengers evacuate a bus moments before it swallowed up by a massive hole and swept away by flood waters. The frantic scene caught on camera wednesday, march 25, 2015. Announcer from nbc news this is today with matt lauer and Savannah Guthrie live from studio 1a in rockefeller plaza. Good morning. Welcome to today on a wednesday morning. Well tell you more about that bus video in a couple minutes. Incredible to see that. Well have more on that. Of course as we come on this morning this is the first full day of searching a remote treacherous crash site from the germanwings plane crash. Thats our top story, the tragic plane crash and the difficult work that is now facing investigators at that site. Nbcs keir simmons made his way to southern france. Good morning. What can you tell us . Reporter matt, good morning. This morning the ceo of the airline confirmed that two americans were on board the flight, he says that families will be given the opportunity to fly over the crash site tomorrow. Meanwhile, there is a hunt for the second black box as they try to find answers to understand how this plane seemed to fall from the sky. The victims of this crash came from around the world, including two americans. This morning three heads of state arrive here, the leaders of germany, spain and france, in the mountains the wreckage is spread over a wide area, the plane has been pulverized one official said. German media says the aircraft was grounded 24 hours before the crash, today experts are examining one of the recovered black boxes, the cockpit voice recorder. Its damaged but may still provide evidence. Claude lives in the village before the crash site. Its behind that mountain. Just behind there. What did you hear . A loud unusual sound, he says, like this. Then nothing. The a320, one of the most popular airliners descended from 38,000 feet in eight minutes on board 150 people, many grermen and spanish. Now rescuers are searching for bodies. The only way to reach the crash site is by walking up the mountain or by helicopter. But this morning, bad weather is hampering that search effort. While in germany a growing memorial for 16 High School Students who were among the passengers. A deepening mystery over what happened to the plane they were there were people from 15 countries on board. One of the questions is why the plane didnt send off a may day signal during eight minutes of deskend. In terms of why it was grounded 24 hours before the crash, apparently there was a problem with the door on the nose but that was cleared for safety. At the same time some say they dont want to tli a320s until this is solved. Keir simmons, thank you. Debra served with the ntsb and now the president and ceo of the National Safety council. Good to see you. Good morning. Weve learned that the cockpit voice recorder has been recovered and authorities are saying it is damaged but it is usable. What kind of information might investigators be able to glean from it . When you hear its damaged, what does that mean to you . You know, theres an external casing that could be damaged. You want to make sure that the information inside is readable and its usable. You are looking at potentially a twohour recording so you should get the entirety of the flight. You can hear the crew talk about you know, takeoff procedures, any maintenance that might have been done, they might be discussing that. But also those critical minutes and seconds leading up to the crash. You want to know whats happening in the cockpit. The cockpit voice recorder is going to be critical. Is and very quickly on that, how quickly do you think they will be able to get that information from it . Generally you can download that information within a span of a few hours if its not damaged. So, that will really be the test. Its early in this investigation, so we dont want to speculate but one of the most perplexing facts seems to be a moment or so after reaching cruising altitude this plane begins a decent. As we understand not fast, not slow, what is described as a controlled descent over eight minutes. What do you make of that and is that something that the pilots would have to initiate . Well, i think the cockpit voice recorder is going to give them insight into that, whether it was initiated by the crew, whether theres conversations about trouble shooting, or whether perhaps they are setting an auto pilot. Its going to be important to understand why they were doing what they did in the cockpit, and hopefully the recorder will give us that information today. In terms of the crash site itself, you see those images you can hardly imagine a more forbidding place for a search and recovery and this has been described as a plane that was pulverized along this mountainside not even accessible by roads. How confident they will be able to literally piece this together . Im absolutely confident that the investigators are going to figure out what happened, but for sure the first days are going to be for those families, for the recovery of their loved ones, and the to make sure they have what they need. Im glad you mentioned the families because that is of foremost importance. Thank you very much. Thank you. Got their hands full. No question about it. Some of the images you look at it and the fact these pieces are so small. You cant even imagine the power of that impact. They have their work cut out. Als got his eye on Severe Weather. Right. Could be our first tornado of march. We havent had one yet. Thats good news, wed like to keep it that way. This is a powerful system. You can get a sense of how powerful. Snow up through green bay, the u. P. Of michigan, some areas may pick up 5 to 8 inches before its over. This is a warm front pushing in. Weve got activity now on top of that jet stream comes up and so were going to look at some Severe Weather developing. Detroit, youre going to look at clouds, showers, maybe snow on the back side of this system. But heres what we are watching. Weve got the risk of Severe Weather right now from texas, oklahoma on into arkansas, and missouri. But stronger risk, fayetteville, joplin, missouri where they are still recovering from deadly tornados of a couple years ago. Were continuing to watch that. Heavy rain with this as well. Were talking some areas picking up to 3 to 5 inches of rain, so we have flood watches thursday morning from Southern Illinois, into northeast oklahoma. This is a very widespread threat that lasts this afternoon into overnight. Those overnight hours are the roughest times for tornados to strike so well continue to track this as the day wears on. Thank you very much. Natalie, shes back with a sad story. So tragic. Time for more of our pretty woman reunion. This morning the stars and director together again for the first time in 25 years. Now on tuesday we heard about their favorite scenes and the postit note that led to movie history. This morning were learning about who still remembers their lines after all these years. How about the scene where i guess its the makeover scene. Your character goes to pick vivian up at the hotel for dinner. Shes waiting for you in the lounge. And ill start it. You say you were late. And you say i dont remember the scene at all. You say youre stunning. And i say youre forgiven. You look nice, he says. All right. Lets start again. Youre late. Youre stunning. Youre forgiven. Youre late. Youre stunning. Youre forgiven. Isnt it heartbreaking when the guy you dated cant remember the date. I remember bits. This is all i remember. This is. Oh, the snapping the box. And he may remember because that famous moment from the movie was actually a preplanned practical joke for the gag reel. You remember. You tell that scene. So i have a exist for her which was was it a ring . A necklace. A beautiful necklace. It was about how long . Rubies. Ive seen the movie. So i have a box. Its a fabulous, im in my tuxedo, shes in a red dress. Oh wonderful. And we did three or four takes. Its wonderful. Shes so excited. Gary says, snap it as soon as she reaches it. She was out late one night. So she was there. But i figured, snap it. Its gag reel stuff. So he snapped it. But she laughed. So we left it in the movie. And it wasnt the only classic charming moment to be improvised. We improvised the business with the handkerchief. Oh, thats right. And i said gary this is not funny. I said this is not funny. Nobody is going to think this is funny when i blow in that handkerchief. I said i know you know funny. This is not funny. I said its his reaction thats funny. She had one movie under her belt and shes telling you whats funny. The popularity of vivians tough talking roommate kitt. For 75 the wife can watch. Laura, what did you see as the role and the impact of the story of kit . I think its part of the heart of at least the response i get when women come and talk to about loving this movie. They talk about that friendship. The friendship is what made the story. But i must say that was one of the most touching moments in the film when they say goodbye. Take care of you. Another scene in the hotel room, youre ordering champagne. You wont remember any of this. You ordered strawberries and champagne for vivian. You said the line of she deduction. I really appreciate this whole she deduction thing but im a sure thing. Does that ring a bell . Yes. I do remember that. All right. Lets go in the bathtub. That bathtub scene was fraught with peril. My favorite. Was it really . Well because it was a moment where she went under water. Why is that your favorite moment . Well, it was funny. Thats wrong. I wanted to do a great prank. By this time richard was in on it. So when we shot the scene, when she went under water the whole crew left. Nobody was there. Where did you go . Everybody left stay down as long as you can. So when you completely butcher princes song kiss. Well thats strong. I just want your extra time and your kiss i thought it was nice. The a cappella version of kiss. Dont you just love prince . We wanted to find a gift for all of you. Unfortunately we only found one gift we thought was appropriate and thats for you. Thats not fair. Thats like gum. You have to have it for the whole class. And i hope you understand the fact that this took a trip back to the 90s. This is not going to be good. I have a feeling. Is something going to spring out. Lets make believe its going to be good. Is it something inappropriate . I have children now. No, not at all. How do you even find one of these . We found the exact one. What . I think i had one of these. Lets press play. Just leave it all up to me this is what i remember about being in the bathtub is my hair was dyed red, and i had strong detergent for bubbles. I kept going under, coming out. By the end of the day the detergent was taking all all my hair color. My hairdresser said why do i look blonde . We had emergency hair color at 10 00 night because of the bathtub. I love seeing you all. A great vision to see you all side by side 20 years hector laura, gary julia, richard. Thank you all very much. This has been a blast. Todays Parenting Team is sponsored by johnsons. So much more. All right. Well now for more of our ongoing today Parenting Team. We are talk building a a major milestone and anxiety inducing one too. Babys first bath. Craig melvin is a new dad himself. Craig, good morning. Good morning, guys. You remember this. It wasnt that long ago. Sure do. Getting baby into water for the first time can be an adventure. Besides getting clean and that fresh baby smell, a bathtub is a valuable ritual in more ways than one. Since coming home from the hospital about three weeks ago, rocco has already mastered posing for the camera and had his first st. Patricks day. Hes definitely a blessing thats for sure. Were learning every day. I think were doing pretty good so far. And hopefully he thinks so too. And on this day another first for rocco and parents, nicholas and jeanine. His first real bath. What have you heard about the first bath experience . We have heard mixed things. You know sometimes they get in the water and dont like it so much. We dont know what to expect with this little guy. We gave a couple of sponge baths and had mixed reactions. This will be his first full immersion. Yes. This could go horribly. As rocco took the plunge he didnt even pee on you. Thats a win. We had pediatrician on hand to help out our firsttime parents. The first thing that every parent needs to know is you should be doing nothing except bathing your baby. If the phone rings, doorbell rings, never respond to anything else outside a severe emergency. Always keep one hand on baby. The bath needs to be a nice temperature but it needs to feel warm to our hands, not hot. It should be really comfortable for you. Rocco seems to be liking this. And for good reason. This bath experts say, is more than just a bath. It is definitely a multipurpose event. You want to remind them mommy or daddy is here and im taking care of you and its quiet time. Its an experience between the baby and the parents. According to Market Research i johnsons asay 90 say its more than just about getting baby clean. And 42 say it is important for brain development. It is a stimulant and helps with brain growth. Bath time is one of those developmental times. So encouraging that stimulation of the baby is extremely important. The face doesnt need soaked. That is perfect. Get in the neck and ears where it gets really dirty. Get a good grip on him because he is slippery. All right. You dont want to go out of the bath . All right. And there you go a clean baby. Way to go rocco. The doctor says babying babies three to four times is enough and four or five minutes tops so they dont get too cold. The best time right before bed. Segue right into sleep. A bath relaxes adults and babies too. After the bath it is extremely important to continue that touch. So drying the baby off and getting ready to wrap them up in the blanket. Put them next to our skin and get that bonding and that touching experience and the benefits from the connection. Roccos pediatrician said you should use gentle massage is moisturizer to help the baby relax. She said three to four times a week. You say i bathe every night we get a little bath because it is part of her routine. Bath, bottle bed. Look at the most adorable baby. She was about six weeks old. The first time i gave her a bath she cried. And i cried because i was so traumatized by it. But then they love it. They dont want to get out. The older he gets the more time he wants to spend in there. And warm water. Theres the boy. What the warm water can do to a little boy. Always be careful of that. That little geyser can go. All right. Check out more. Today. Com parentingteam. Still ahead, pressed for time. You do not want to miss the week night wonder we are cooking up this morning. But first this is today on nbc. My name is bret hembree. I am an electric crew foreman out of the cupertino service center. I was born and raised in the cupertino area. Its a fantastic area to work. This is the one. Come on. Come on. The come i am. So many stunts and the fight scenes when you get ready for a movie like this do you have to train to do these things . I do. Yes. It just requires a good amount of time. For example i have a massive fight team with jason. We kickoff the movie. Our goal was lets put a fight scene together. That was the goal. We took probably about a month to rehearse and the fight scene lasts a good two or three minutes. It still requires a tremendous amount of work and strategy and you want to make sure that the balance is right and on top of that, you want to make sure that you balance out great action with a line like the man. You put a little of the gravel as we call it. Honey coated gravel. Do you get injured when you do the fight scenes . This is really is over the top. Whats great about jason, he is one of the i feel one of the movie stars who has a legitimate skill set. We were not pulling a lot of punches. It was in the body. Lets just take it. As silly men do. Lets take it. You were talking about baywatch. To baywatch and how does that happen . The 2k3w0e8 was always to have a diverse career when i first started 15 years ago. I cant wait to see what you are doing. Its going to be good. Tell me about the lip synch. Lip synch battle. We kick it off and i love jimmy. The first time i hosted it, he is we would go at it. Me, when i had a blood clot in my leg that could have traveled to my lungs. Thats why i took xarelto®, too. Xarelto® is proven to treat and help reduce the risk of dvt and pe blood clots. I took xarelto® for afib. An irregular heartbeat that can lead to a stroke from a blood clot. Xarelto® is proven to reduce the risk of stroke in people with afib, not caused by a heart valve problem. Hey, well im glad we got together. For people with afib currently well managed on warfarin there is limited information on how xarelto® and warfarin compare in reducing the risk of stroke. I tried warfarin before, but the blood testing routine and dietary restrictions had me off my game. Tell me about it. Lets se. R arnold palmer. Ok. Make mine a kevin nealon. Really, brian . As this may increase your risk of a blood clot or stroke. While taking xarelto® you may bruise more easily and it may take longer for bleeding to stop. Xarelto® may increase your risk of bleeding if you take certain medicines. Xarelto® can cause serious bleeding and in rare cases may be fatal. Get help right away if you develop unexpected bleeding unusual bruising, or tingling. If you have had spinal anesthesia while on xarelto® watch for back pain or any nerve or musclerelated signs or symptoms. Do not take xarelto® if you have an artificial heart valve, or abnormal bleeding. Tell your doctor before all planned medical or dental procedures. You know and with the full support of our brother, the angel, who we all miss and love dearly in paul walker, his whole family supported the idea of moving forward. You know he had got through 85 of the movie before his untimely transition, and you know theres a lot of sensitivities about how to move forward. I mean none of us wanted to do press interviews because we didnt want anyone to think that we were thinking it was about us. Or exploiting the situation. Or coming off that way. Right. The family said, full support and both of pauls brothers joined us to help finish the movie. Its what he wanted. Right. He would have wanted that. He was never a selfish person. Cindy stayed in florida. Okay. And she was one of the extras in the movie and she was fully committed to her job. All right. Well we want to just go back to the beginning. I have a fabulous life, work in fashion. Im very young. But i wanted people to know that no matter what comes your way, you can make it.
