It was 50 years ago that star trek boldly went where no tv show had ever gone before made household names of kirk and spock. Now, one year after Leonard Nimoys death, William Shatner is paying tribute in a new book. Its called leonard my 50year friendship with a remarkable man. Have you two thought of sing together . Its quite the book. Welcome back. Thank you so much. We talked about how in your career youre never Close Friends with people you work with because there was always a season for that. The show would end and youd go your separate ways. With him, it was different. Every show that lasts, youre friends forever. Thats what youre doing, your battling the dialogue, youre worried about the same things you become really good friends. Shows over. Regis. Regis disappears. He goes. He has his life to lead. And this guy you spent years with you obviously dont see because hes i just told you, i had dinner with him saturday night. Youve ruined my whole theory. Stop wrecking his thing. No the point is thats usually what happens but it didnt happen with you and leonard. What kept you friends . Well three years doing the series. Series is canceled. Thats the end of it. Byebye. Got to make a living. Bye. Oh were going to make a movie . Oh were going to make seven . Oh were going to do personal appearances . Oh were going to do conventions. Conventions. We were thrown into each others company. Instead of parting, we spent so much time together. Talk about in the beginning how you guys werent even you were kind of jealous of him a little. I was, natural competition . Competition. Suddenly he broke out and i said wow. You broke out, come on you look so sharp in those pants. What . I had to what pants . I know that was my only weapon. No tons of women had huge crushes on you. I know yeah. You broke out huge. Huge. I was one of them. Come on you did fine. So what im saying is do you two compete . Thats what im saying. Well we do on the air for the games we play but no we dont. But that shows youre going to ruin another story. The thing is there is competition and it doesnt have to be malicious. Thats the word malicious. It can be competition. So what happened at the end thats what i explain in the beginning of the book. What happened at the end, because there was a lot of press about how your friendship had a sort of falling out or something. What happeneded . You know i dont know. And thats the mystery that will go to everybodys grave. But you have a little idea. No, i swear to god. The friendship had somehow he wouldnt talk to me. Didnt take your calls. Maybe he was having some sort of dementia you think . I dont want to go there because his familys around him, but i dont know. But how that is heartbreaking. Heartbreaking. You do talk about his alcoholism. I sent him a note before he died of Love Friendship and how i missed him. I never got a response. Do you ever run into his family members or friends, mutual friends . His son is a good part of the book. I interviewed his son, surprising to you though it may be. So there are theres a great deal of leonard in leonard. I did research on him, discovered things i didnt know about him. I interviewed him twice, three times. I did a whole hour and a half on him on disc. And then i had an interview show and i interviewed him and evoked stories that he never he didnt even remember himself. Well theyre in the book. Its quite a thick book. You worked hard. All the best. David as well. Yes. All righty. Were talking birds and even bees when we show you the newest trend of house pets. Dont miss the fun after this. If a dog or cat just doesnt cut it as a house pet for you, you might find the newest member of your family right here today. Nat geo wild has a new primetime show called pet talk where experts answer your questions about everything from how long to leave a pet at home alone to exotic animals. One of the hosts is david mizejewski. Hi dave. Welcome back. Thank you. So these arent fierce things like you usually bring. Normally i bring you wildlife. Im hosting this new show pet talk thats all about helping people understand their pets including exotic pets and maybe some animals that you might not want to get as a pet because they are a little too wild. You just said how long you should leave your pet at home alone. Whats the answer . So its dont ruin it for me. What is it . Honestly depends on your pet but you shouldnt a dog probably shouldnt be going more than four or five hours alone. So you want to get a dog walker. I have that. I do four. 3 1 2. Whats the first thing . An alpaca. Theyre so silly looking, arent they . If you guys want to come over here get a look at how beautiful this animal is. This is the whole farm pet trend. You can gently give a little pet. That wool is actually these guys were domesticated 6,000 years ago. Hoda come around this way if you want and just give her a pet there. She doesnt like soft pets. Obviously if youre getting one as a pet, it needs to live outdoors. You have to have a barn. Not everybody can handle an animal like this. You want to do your research. Make sure you can take care of it. You have a good vet. They can be very affectionate and theyre very cute. What do they eat . They eat plant material. So lets go on to our next animal. Bye here you go sweetie. Our next animal you probably have heard of too. This one is a chinchilla. Chinchilla is also an ancient animal. These guys are from south america. You can definitely pet this guy. The softest fur. They do breed these guys for fur coats. So i would not support that. But these guys are their fur is so thick because they live at high elevations. You have to remember they can get overheated very easily. They dont really have an ability to cool off. Whats the lifespan . They can live for several years. Theyre more than a mouse that lives one year. You want to think about the lifespan. Because you get so attached to them. They live in a cage in your house, right . These guys also have a special health requirement. They need to take dust paths. Im going to put them in here. Because they live in the mountains, they dont get look at that. They keep their fur clean by rolling in the dust like this. Are you kidding . How does rolling in dirt it helps keep parasites out. Sloughs off dead skin. Kind of like a little spa treatment. Is he happy in there . Hes totally happy. Yes, he does. Understand what it needs so you can keep it happy. The next one. Oh look at this. Gorgeous animal. This is sid the cockatoo. A kind of par rat.
