A good word for these fires is relentless. Since wednesday, there have been over 500 personnel battling the blaze. 4,000 acres yesterday morning was this fire estimated. Now its closer to 6,000 acres and only about 20 contained. This morning, Mother Nature adding fuel to the fire. Wildfires exploding across the country in both size and ferocity. Now in nearly a dozen states, aided by sweltering heat and dry conditions. In california, sundowner winds turing the sherpa fire in a blast furnace. A state of emergency declared, forcing the mandatory evacuations of hundreds of homes. 5,000 acres now a forest of smoldering ash. Fighting back, more than 1,200 fire crews on the ground and in the sky. An aerial bombardment in an effort to stop the spread. The Santa Barbara county Sheriffs Office says despite getting these fires under control during the day, its when the sun sets, during nightfall, that the fire activity becomes unpredictable. This dogland fire threatening homes and prompting widespread evacuations. Firefighters across the west could be working in triple digit temperatures. Parts of Southern California could reach 120 degrees on sunday. 106 in downtown los angeles. 108 in las vegas. In phoenix, bracing for a scorching 118 degrees, close to the hottest it has ever been. The National Weather Service Calls the heat wave rare and dangerous. Urging residents to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities. Everything is coming together to be a worst case scenario. Reporter the worst is behind the fire lines. Firefighters not just battling fires but high winds and now extreme heat. Another cause for concern this fire is bringing is problems with air quality. Thats the Biggest Issue of this whole area of high pressure. When you have this dome of high pressure, you have sinking air. When air sinks, it heats up. We have seen perhaps recordhigh temperatures that will last threw the middle of the week. We do have now 45 Million People under some sort of heat alert. Where there is humidity, thats where your feels like temperature will be up around 110 degrees. Thats where your body tries to sweat, but the air is so humid, it cant really cool itself down. In the southwest, a dry heat. Phoenix, 112 degrees today. El paso, 107. On sunday, this is likely when we will break or at least be close to alltime records. The warmest it has been in phoenix is 122. Were forecasting a high of 120 in phoenix on sunday. In tucson, the alltime record is 117. We should hit that sunday, then slowly start to cool off as we go into the beginning of the week. Again, in phoenix, thats 122. Forecasting a high of 120 on sunday. Still 117, 114, whether youre break an alltime record or not, it is still exceptionally hot. In las vegas, we get close to it at 115 on tuesday. The alltime record is 117. I want to point out what is going on in the Santa Barbara area. You have these sundowner winds. They come from a northerly direction. They mainly hit in the Late Afternoon and evening. We could see gusts up near 30 miles an hour. Look what happens sunday, high of 96 degrees. By monday, high of 98 degrees with wind gusts up to 35 miles an hour. Records show he had twice taken a test used to possibly become a florida Law Enforcement officer in 2011 and 2014 and passed on the second attempt. And School Records reveal he had disciplinary problems as early as the third grade. This morning, more signs the orlando nightclub gunman, omar mateen, may have been preparing to die. Firing off shots. Reporter investigators say prior to the shooting, mateen made more purchases on his credit card, as if he wasnt worried about paying it back. He also transferred his share of his home to his sister for 10 before the shooting. His wife, noor zahi salman, a witness. Salman said she turned over laptops and cell phones. A Family Member tells nbc news she was beat sben and battered never told them she was abused. It was four gunshots that shattered tony merraro. He was not broken. This is after police say what happened inside this house left 12 children in protective custody and three adults arrest this had morning. Acting on a tip, police came upon a disturbing scene. 12 girls ranging in age from 6 months to 18 years old, living secretly in a home of a 51yearold man. Lee caplan has been charged with assault and suspected of fathering two children with one of the girls. With other children through an inappropriate relationship. Reporter police are also investigating the allegation that the parents of the young mother, now 18, sold her to caplan when she was just 14. Authorities are still trying to identify the other children. As far as i know, we havent been able to locate birth certificates for the kids. Reporter neighbors in pennsylvania just 20 miles north of philadelphia, grew suspicious of the boarded windows and girls behavior. Multiple times ive ridden by this house and have seen young girls, various ages, dressed in amish clothing. Often afraid. Tall weeds. I see children in the driveway. Authorities dont know how long the girls were living in caplans house and are holding all three adults on 1 million bail. Caplan has been charged with three counts of assault and unlawful contact and corruption of a minor. Police still arent saying if the other children were victims of abuse. Craig . Efforts at disney now are fully in place to keep the tourists and alligators as far apart as possible. Remember, disney owns property about the size of San Francisco and its reclaimed swamp land so experts say youll never be able to get rid of all the alligators. This morning on the closed beach near the seven seas lagoon where lane graves was killed on tuesday, a temporary bearrier. New signs with pictures warning guests of the dangers of alligators and snakes. Disney says they are working on longterm solutions. As they evaluate procedures, more images surfacing of guest encounters with gators. This video filmed a month ago and obtained by tmz shows an alligator climbing on a raft on disney rivers of america. And when Connie Whalen of pennsylvania was on vacation with her family four years ago, she took these photos of an alligator near a resort beach. She said she had no idea gators might be lurking near to where her kids were playing. She applauds the new changes but feels theyre long overdue. I feel like it is such a shame. Meeting again on tuesday to talk about all this to see if there is some sort of deal that can be reached after this bombshell move, banning the entire russian track and field team from sport. It is unprecedented. Not a single track and field athlete allowed to compete under the russian flag in this summers Olympic Games. The decision by the sports governing body was unanimous. I think it sends a very, very powerful message. Reporter the ban is a result of what they call a culture of doping dating back to the soviet era. This doping that has been ongoing in russia, its been difficult to pick the clean athletes. Reporter russia was suspended in november after the report accused the team of cheating, corruption and cover up. For seven months, russia fought to get its track and field suspension lifted in time for rio. They claim theyve made progress, but the doping agency says they havent changed. President putin called the ban unfair and political and said clean athletes shouldnt suffer. Im really upset, this russian pole vaulter said. Im being punished for something i havent done. I think the whole world is scared of our team. Said this russian athlete. The iaaf says the decision is final and cannot be overruled. U. S. Officials applauded the decision. Its tough.
