Hermine is meandering off the coast, there is a Tropical Storm warning in effect for this area, no rain is expected but there are strong winds and dangerous rip currents in the forecast. After slogging through the south, and the midatlantic, this morning hermine is spinning off the northeast coast, kicking up dangerous waves and rip currents. The piece of the storm lower than they predicted so we can imagine that some of these effects will last through wednesday. Reporter long island under threat of storm surges. Were still looking at some of the clouds working in. Some of that gusty wind is starting to work in as well as this storm tries to move farther to the north and west. Keep in mind, it still has winds of 70 Miles Per Hour so most of the effects of the rain will be felt across nantucket, cape cod, maybe into southern and eastern parts of rhode island. But the storm itself is going to pull away. So, while some areas across the midatlantic saw a lot of sunshine this weekend, its really more of a beach thing. You really need to stay out of the water because now from North Carolina all the way into new england, thats where rip currents are going to be dangerous. We do still have Tropical Storm warnings for parts of long island, also into southern new england. We have the potential of the storm surge w. This storm out here it pushes this water onshore and we skild from about 1 to 3 feet of water above the normal high tide. Thats when you end up with coastal flooding and beach erosion. Mild to moderate flooding. The winds, most of our windiest conditions with gusts to 45 Miles Per Hour will be across eastern long island and southern new england. Well still see wind gusts near 25 to 30 Miles Per Hour along the rest of nouj into new york city too. Rain is not so much an issue with about an inch and a half. Among the revelations, clinton saying more than 3 dozen times she couldnt remember something including some briefings on how to handle sensitive information. And that she didnt know the letter c on an email went confidential. Kaine defending her. Where are the opportunities to change that dynamic . If you look at all of the measures of campaigns he is outspent, 101. He doesnt have the ground game obviously in swing states that Hillary Clinton has. How does he change the dynamic . Well, right willie, he doesnt have the ground game, he doesnt have the quality surrogates that Hillary Clinton has in a popular president barack obama, of former president bill clinton, biden, all the ones kristin mentioned. The one opportunity that donald trump has is the three president ial debates, those start late this month. And donald trump has got to come across in a way that adds to the level of support that he has and stops subtracting and thing likes the argument with jeff flake is the kind of thing that he needs not to do in order to make progress. John, its interesting when you look at the month of august for both candidates with Hillary Clinton, the fbi report, the clinton foundation, with donald trump stumbling over how to reach out to minorities, and also his immigration speech which even his campaign is still split over where he stands on mass deportation. With all of that you hear people say this does boil down to sadly what they see as a lesser of two evils. Is that going to be the argument again in this home stretch, im better than the other guy . Reporter Jenny Desmond and her husband are current caretakers of the crew working on behalf of the Humane Society of the United States who stepped in when the new York Blood Center stopped paying what it called its voluntary support for the chimps. People volunteer to come here and make donations thats the only way the animals could survive. Reporter the Humane Society from 2015 shows the chimps clinging to care givers for food and Drinking Water from cups because the water system had broken down. When we first came they were really stressed and there was a lot of fighting to get to the food. Now theyre much more relaxed. Reporter the new York Blood Center no longer uses chimps for research but whos responsible for their longterm care . A statement to nbc news, the new York Blood Center says for nearly a decade new York Blood Center demonstrated its commitment to going the last mile to resolve the situation. Thats why we spent seven years and more than 5 million voluntarily maintaining the sanctuary while exploring every other option. The new York Blood Center declined an on camera interview citing in part threats and social media campaigns that they say have personally threatened their employees over this issue. The chimps are caught in the middle. Jane spent her life studying and rescuing chimps says they have emotions much like humans. Hopefully soon nobody will be using chimpanzees for any purposes. When people do, when they take responsibility, theyve got to realize this is longterm. We cannot just take such amazing beings and then abandon them. Its not often you get an inside look at how chimps used for medical purposes actually lived. How much time would chimps spend in a cage like this is this. Their whole lives. 30 years. Every day. Every night. Never get out. Reporter the new York Blood Center says they reached out to the liberian government to partner on a solution and they were ignored on all attempts. If you have medicine used to treat heart disease, used to treat diabetes, blood pressure, sedativ sedatives, one extended release pill of these medicines can harm a child to the point of being lethal. We talk about opioid use. When you have medicine that you want to get rid of, put it in something that no one else will want to get to. Put it in a plastic baggy and dispose of it in the garbage can. The f and your local government have give back sites. Dont put this in garbage can. You are taking away my ramen noodles. Two main reasons why. One is the actual weigh that this is constructed. It has a very narrow base and its very, very tall. So it tips easily. Just structurally that way. The second thing about the noodles themselves, they are very, very sticky. If a young child comes up to a table, pulls over easily, noodles will get stuck on them and can cause severe enough burns that the child requires surgery. So its not that you have to get rid of the soup but perhaps manufacturing look for something with a wider base or more importantly keep it out of reach of children. Keep them in College Dorm Rooms which is where we need them. So one big important thing for viewers, this has nothing to do with the brand of high chair. All high chairs are a culprit here. The main issue is this. You want to you have your baby starting to eat table food. You want your child to feel like theyre part of the family so you push the high chair up close to the table. What the little baby can do is use his or her legs and push off against the edge of the table and falls back. Apparently you would not imagine how many emergency visits come from children under the age of one who hit their head and get a concussion. Number one, have them further away so their legs cant reach. Use the kind that you can strap onto the table. We always had that. And most importantly, children can crawl out so make sure your child is strapped in correctly. Pull it back so they cant reach. I dont have one of these in my house. Im glad now. One of the most hazardous things you can have in the kitchen. Look how sharp this blade is. Cuts and makes a beautiful julianne vegetables. It comes with a safety guard. Put your food in that and use it. Second thing is cleaning it. Food can get stuck. It dulls the blade. Food can harbor bacteria. One of the biggest reasons people come into the emergency room for lacerations and cuts on their hands. Button batteries. I get this one. Kids love to put things in their mouth. Who wouldnt if youre a toddler and want to put a button battery in your mouth. Its very bright. It looks exactly like maybe a piece of candy. What makes this different, lets say a child swallows a coin like a penny. Its likely going to go down and theyll pass it and they should be okay. What happens with these is that the acid from the batteries can erode through a childs esophagus in as little as two hours. This is a real medical emergency. Look at all of the things where you find button batteries. Again, please keep these things out of reach of children and especially the Battery Supply way up high. One more wave seen a lot in the news lately. Detergent pods. Over and over again. What most people will say is regular detergent is so diluted with water is not dangerous and a little kid cant get detergent in their mouths. Look at the color. A child will go for this. Extremely toxic because its so concentrated. Children obviously can have gi problems and have abrasions or worse. Stick with the bottle for a couple more years and way up top on the shelf. Its a southerner kind of day. Its the best. Im telling you, when tomatoes are in season, we are using them every way possible. Ive got to tell you, this is my favorite recipe. I never had tomato pie. Honey, youre life will be changed after this segment. Well start with homemade crust. Its five ingredients. When you tell me homemade crust, it doesnt sound fast. Its scary but the deal is you cant get out of the parking lot at the supermarket to get your premade pie crust in the time that its going take to you make this. So what were going to do, one of the things we always want to make sure is were going to mix butter and flour in here together really well. Now, because youre so hot because you know you are, you dont want to overmix that butter in because youll lose your pretty layers so you literally stick your fingers in the ice water for a few minutes. Get them really cold and then work it in so that it doesnt overwork it. Do you use Room Temperature butter . As cold as possible. You want your hands to be cold because i dont want them to melt it. Ill do that a little bit. This is great trick. Once you have your dough all rolled out and absolutely beautiful, its give to move interest from here to here. Were going to roll it onto the rolling pin. Look at there. Then well roll it back out. Thats beautiful. So well press it down just a little bit. Its bigger than our pan which is not a big deal. Is that what you want . Well cut it off. Well come around and cut. You could tear it. Not a big deal. This is crimping. This is not one of my favorite things is crimping the crust. Its a simple technique. Work on that. This is going to be your big fun thing for the whole day. This is where a child in the house comes in handy. Here to there. See the space. You practice at home. Now we have our mixture. This is going to make the toppings for this fantastic tomato pie. We have mayonnaise. Parmesan. And we have sharp cheddar. You could use mozzarella. Any cheese you like. Well mix this really well. That will be the topping. Now, with our tomatoes, the one thing we always want to remember is theyre going to release a lot of moisture. We want to drain them. Because otherwise were not going to have tomato pie, well have tomato soup and thats not what we want. Well add our salt. And let that start to drain at the bottom. That will make the difference in the world. You drained your tomatoes. Now we have our gorgeous tomatoes and well start layering. I love using all of these different colors. That just makes it so much more fun. Beautiful when you slice in. Start crumbling the goat cheese in the middle. If you dont like it, you dont have to use it. You can you the zucchini in here. Eggplant in here. Or if you want to do more mozzarella. We have to have some of this fabulous basil. Im makin a mess. Youre doing really well. Were going to add more pepper. And then well add more salt. And then we keep layering. And then we do a beautiful big thick topping. You can see it right here after its been cooked of that wonderful creamy sauce. Can i try . Absolutely. This is the mile high pie made famous in new orleans by one of my Favorite Hotels in the world which just reopened. They just remodeled and made it absolutely incredible.
