A man armed with a knife surrendered falling a standoff with the police on a home near tolley road. The standoff ended at 7 00 when they took the man in custody. The suspect was injured when apprehe apprehended, taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. The place were called to the Oreilly Auto Parts store, and employees reported a man trying to steal things. Police tried to stop the suspect, but he escaped over a fence. The suspect broke in three homes. The first had a woman inside. He let her go, but continued on to another home and held a second woman captive. She, too, was released. A report critical of San Francisco police was released today by federal authorities saying the department has, quote, sufficient deficiencies. The department of justice started looking into the sfpd at the mayors request following a number of Deadly Police shootings last year. Heres vick lee. Im proud to be part that the San Francisco Police Department will accept and implement every single recommendation. Reporter 94 findings, 272 recommendations in this report from the u. S. Department of justice. This Community Policing began the investigation of police in february. Mayor ed lee asked for the probe after six fatal officer involved shootings last year in a text messaging scandal involving officers. The report was blueprint and scathing. There are significant deficiencies in the operational systems we identified. Reporter among the deficiencies, they had outdated use of force policies, and that the department lacked accountability. The department does not adequately invest gait use of officers in investigations, use of force. Reporter investigators found most Deadly Force Incidents involved minorities, but the Police Union Head points this out. The report came to a conclusion there is no systemic racism among officers within the sfpd. Reporter the report recommended Arming Police with stop guns, something the Police Commission has been grappling with. What we learned today from the department of justice, they recommend tasers be a part of that, and thats something rt for the commission to consider. Reporter interim police chief chaplain and mayor lee pointed out they are already making many of the recommended changes, and that includes body cams. A Concord Police dog stabbed with hedge clippers and beaten by an armed suspect is expected to recover fully. He was stabbed in the head and beaten with a blunt object. Police say the 30yearold attacked someone with a hatchet and stripped clothes and jumped fences and ran into the dog. Once he got past the dog and attacked the dog, he got up and went after the officers with sharp sheers in his hands, and they were in fear for their safety, so they had to use lethal force. He died at the hospital, he was on parole and arrested on drug charges many times. California may have strict background checks on gun purchases, but thats not stifling gun sales. In data released by the state attorney general show gun sales jumped 250 since 2008. Since looking at sales since someone, sacramento coupe was up 400 . Gun sales are up 156 in Santa Clara County, but they are down in San Francisco coupe. A crew is trying to recover a boat that sank near pier 45 in fleet week. On saturday, he was throwing garbage and he was throwing taking pictures, and asked him to pick up the garb e garbage, you know, and report it to the city. This is minor. Protesters say the refugees will need scholarships. Prosecutors say a man accused of am burging two Police Officers in palm springs thweekd had one motive, to kill officers. John hernandez felix faces first degree murder and variety of other charges making him eligible for the Death Penalty. Police say he used a high powered rifle to shoot officers through a screen door as they investigated a Domestic Violence call. This individual wanted to kill Police Officers. He armed himself with a weapon to kill Police Officers. He put on a vest so that he would be protected so he could kill Police Officers. Thats the motive. Hernandez is a gang member who was prohitted from owning firearms. The two officers will be mourned at a public memorial tuesday in palm springs. Its a very hard thing to do, but doable. Reporter its the brain child of former stanford professor Patrick Brown creating impossible foods showing off the fruits of their labor. We didnt just slap together a bunch of bits and pieces from plants and call it a burger. We did deep research to understand what makes a burger delicious. Reporter inside impossible foods test kitchen, they mixed carefully chosen ingredients to make the meat patty, picking apart a real beef burger studying texture, smell, and even how it cooks to get it all just right.
