If you look on the side of the highway, you can see the fbi involved with metal detectors looking for shell casings. You can see a lot of evidence markers that are on the side. Right there and that is still actively going on now a movie to what we heard from the interim police chief around 1 oclock this morning, there was a burglary at some type of place here on the embarcadero officers in plainclothes and uniformed then shortly a few hours later, another burglary at that same location. Now, what happened . What transpired . There was an officer, this officer that was shot and killed. He was in plain clothes. What police are telling us, one of the suspects, theyre not exactly sure how many suspects were there, but one of them fired multiple rounds at this officer and then he was transported to the hospital and thats where he later died. Take a listen to what we heard in that press conference earlier today. Tragically andy 44 in the morning, our officers succumb to his injuries. We have officers come, please. And now county Sheriff Tactical Team at the scene. We also called in additional officers to follow up on leads, copper and those individuals involved. This senseless murder of a police officer. One of the guardians of our beautiful city. It will not stand. Oakland will work tirelessly with all of our Law Enforcement partners to find those responsible for this assault on number, but they need the publics help. The San Francisco police department, the police union and Sheriffs Office all sharing their condolences on social media saying theyre praying for the Oakland Police department. The Alameda County District Attorney pamela price calling todays deadly shooting, quote, a tremendous strategy for tragedy for our entire community and extremely traumatizing for our Law Enforcement partners across the county, the murder of this young officer is inexcusable. She went on to say, quote, my office stands ready to prosecute whoever is responsible and hold them accountable for killing this officer. Todays shooting marks the 54th Oakland Police officer to be killed in the line of duty. The last was in march of 2009 when 4 officers were killed by a wanted felon. Sergeant mark duncan and officer john heggie were ambushed. The suspect in that shooting. Killed them both before barricading himself in a nearby apartment. Sergeants are roman and dance. A chi went in after the suspect. They were both shot dead. The suspect was eventually killed by police that day from march of 2009 remains the deadliest day in the history of the Oakland Police department. Right now. We need to track this storm thats calling for gusty winds and heavy rainfall all across the bay area. Theres high surf that will continue through today into saturday flooding. Also a major concern. Heres video from where those waves battered the capitol appear. It was already damage from the storm from last january, strong and dangerous waves at the coast left behind several communities with big messes to clean up all up and down the bay area, including a Stinson Beach in marin county. The rain is starting to pick up now. I did want to also mention you saw all of that video of places that were inundated by water yesterday with the high waves. We do still have. This coastal Flood Warning that now goes in through tuesday, a rather saturday at 02 00pm and this was just re up by the National Weather service. So the reason for this is we have areas that are in lowlying areas are along the coast that have already taken on a lot of water. So theyre likely to have some trouble as we have this next round of showers that are going to be rolling in. And you can see that right now on the wet roads here at the golden gate bridge, you can barely see anything on the other side of the bridge looking to the north because thats where theyre starting to see some of the heavier showers that are falling all of the streaming in because of a low pressure system sitting right off the coast. So where you see the light green, that is the lighter showers. But notice these heavier ones just about to roll into the north bay right now as we get into the next few hours. So here along the Santa Cruz Mountains starting to see a little bit of this darken up, meaning heavier showers and again here in the north bay, particularly as we get into spots like santa rosa and to the points just north of that in around guerneville as well. Some of that yellow showing up in the map. Also, the wind up in our peaks has been very gusty. You can at 25 Miles Per Hour. If you move a little farther to the north last rumpus at 36 Miles Per Hour, it is a south southwesterly flow thats coming along with this. And you see that the peaks and then it translates down to the ground and thats where we start to see things like this. 24 Miles Per Hour right now in Mountain View. So we are under wind advisory in addition to all this rain thats coming down and this goes through 07 00pm tonight before the worst of that is done, we could see gusts upwards of 50 Miles Per Hour. If you look at the swell out off the coast there at 26 feet right now as we zoom in, you can see what kind push in a little bit, but its not as high as yesterday. Having said that, 14 foot high waves with wind, it cetera. You know, its a dangerous place to be. Its all from this low pressure system. And as we zoom in now, you can see where some of these heavier showers are starting to roll in. Theres that yellow and orange. This kind of approaching the north bay. So if you are in that area, be ready because youre going to have some of those heavier showers rolling and the peninsula. You are on the list as well. Now the light showers kind of happening. But those heavier showers are going to coming were also under that coastal Flood Warning and that does go until 02 00pm on saturday as well because of all of the rain thats already cope down. That officer was shot while responding to a burglary in progress on oaklands abarca darrow. The officer taken to Highland Hospital where he was pronounced dead earlier this morning. We get close to the coast, but still 12 foot, high waves and the chance really more for rogue waves that could sweep you off your feet. Thats what im most concerned downtown San Francisco about 56 in santa rosa. Here comes the rain. It is rolling in earnest now and it is really bay area wide. Even the east bay starting to see a few of these showers. As we zoom in here, you can see them rolling across the peninsula. Some of those darker green showing where some of those heavier downpours are starting to occur and theyre happening. Very heavy downpours that are he north bay that were starting to see. Potter served 8 years in the marine corps black to get back. Yeah. Had to be dead. 2 deployments, 3 tours in iraq. 17 countries even learned to new language is arabic and spanish. I change my military service for anything my first year and i was sent to or more for a tactics. Instructor school. Upon completion, i ended up training 5,000 troops urban warfare about 6 months later, i was sent to a rescue Swimmer School and they sent me to another structure. Score became ring. Come out. Our survival and a 60,000 troops in one year that leadership experience state with potter as he looks for his next steps after the marines, he started volunteering as a firefighter after about a week of training and whatnot. You know, this is what i want to do at the end of the season. Captain potter went to Butte College and graduated 3rd in his class. He was eventually hired on fulltime with cal fire helping others in need they can help the cells. It translated and into becoming a First Responder. Those sense of urgency. Experiences that experience and marines really related to. What ive done in the fire service with both of captain potters grandfather serving in the military being in the marines and now a First Responder has come naturally to him. Adding, he always sees the connections between the 2 groups. That 9, 1, forced to me is a lot like the required 9, 1, 4, 6, men. You know, the president or, you know, countrys in trouble. They said they sent reason even though protecting life and property is theyre consistent goal protecting those that that we do serve. Theres no greater feeling when when you say peoples homes and they come up and they, you know, they say thank you for saving our house. Captain potter says one of the things he likes about his calfire job is the unpredictability of what to expect. Every days a different day at work. You never know what youre going to get. Theres a lot of opportunities with our department and i value that. And, you know, take pride and and my job and t t doing this. Captain potter now dedicates his time serving others by being a firefighter and training head back to the bus tools but he says even after years out of the marine corps will never forget where he came from. You have family in the military. It it hits everything hits differently and you know, it. For those that know they know what that fight means. And it stands for a and its sense for everybody. So most of the west coast from the cascades also to the sierra are dealing with smaller than normal snow packs the season at palisades tahoe crews have recorded only 38 inches of snow so far the mountain typically averages about 400 inches per season. Thats the indication of what you dont want to be on the road. So late tonight, till about 10 oclock on saturday night. This is the snow thats expected from this system. You can see between about 2, 6 inches. There will be higher totals. We get really high up elevation. But snow levels look to be around 7,000 and then 7,000 feet in the lower into about 6,000 feet as they get into tomorrow. So thats whats happening there. Now, lets talk about whats happening here, which is to say that weve got rain all over the place. Look at this from San Francisco, mount tam down to san jose got gray skies and some of those showers kind of rolling through the area. All of my cameras are getting very gray and this is sfo. Want to look quickly at temperatures to show you. We are rather warm in some spots in the san jose in the inner east bay in the 60s at this hour, we do have some delays for incoming flights to be expected with this kind of weather and sfo right now at about an hour and 18 minutes or other area airports are running pretty well. We also have some wind out there also from this. This a system thats bringing a southerly flow of wind about 21 Miles Per Hour there at Mountain View . So this is our low pressure system. Lets zoom in and see where the showers are right now. It is pretty pervasive across the entire bay area. You can see here and this is the rate were looking at for. So still quite a bit to come up to about an inch a little bit over of rain. So as we go through the night tonight, some of these heavier showers roll in some embedded thunderstorms are possible. We wake up tomorrow and we do have some of that. Still scattered shower activity, get some clearing on saturday. And then sunday, were talking about new years eve.
