On tuesday, the thick smoke covered parts of new england, while earlier this month, canadas wildfires resulted in hazy skies across parts of the western us on on Canadas Atlantic coast, flames have scorched about 25,000 acres in nova scotia and displaced more than 16,000 people. People in Santa Clara County may notice a lot of pga crews out starting today. Ground and helicopter crews will be inspecting power lines, electrical towers and power poles for the next three days. The helicopters will be flying close to those lines and towers between the hours of ten and four in the afternoon. They could fly as low as 100ft off the ground. Crews will also be looking for any trees that could interfere with those power lines so that trees can be trimmed before there is a problem. So they want to let folks know in case they see some of those low lying helicopters. We do see a lot of fog out there still in the sky. Ktvu meteorologist mark tamayo talking about this unseasonably cool stretch. We are still in. Yeah, its been over a week, ali, with these temperatures on the cool to maybe mild side but things will be changing a little bit. I know its hard to believe when you look outside, you still see all the low clouds and fog. But this warm up is mostly focused for the inland spots and temperatures will definitely be trending up maybe a little bit today compared to yesterday. And the warming will continue into the weekend, in fact, by sunday, the warmest locations will be approaching the mid 80s. Today, just some lower 70s. Heres a satellite over the past few hours. You can see some not not much in the way of shower activity over the sierra. But theres the chance this afternoon for us right now we still have this, the low clouds and fog near the immediate coastline. Some slow clearing, but as you can see, some some more sunshine out there compared to this time maybe the past few days. Right now, theres still some cloud cover, it looks like, up into Sonoma County for windsor, closer to occidental as well, and then down towards San Francisco. And we still have some low clouds stretching across the bay for berkeley and oakland. And of course, we have the overcast right around Half Moon Bay out toward pacifica and San Franciscos ocean beach. Of course, that cloud cover having a big impact on temperatures where its cloudy. We still have some 50s out there for San Francisco, though, and Half Moon Bay, but some neighborhoods already in the 60s and those neighborhoods will be a approaching the lower 70s later on this afternoon. Heres our live camera looking out toward the sfo. Still some lingering cloud cover but things will clear on out and well also notice this tree probably moving around a bit more later on today. Winds expected to pick up this afternoon, maybe around 20 to 30 miles an hour, especially near the coast and right around the bay. This guy, this area of low pressure right now is kind of hanging out near southern california. Its been keeping our temperatures on the cool side. This other ones kind of been drifting toward the Northern California today. No big changes, maybe a slight warm up compared to yesterday with partly sunny skies. And then this area of High Pressure wants to rebuild and this will send temperatures up a few degrees for friday. And into the weekend. Not a heat wave with temperatures inland easily back up into the 80s as we head into the weekend with the snow melt or the warming temperatures over the past few weeks, the snow melt has been accelerating. Remember, weve been talking so much about that jumbo sierra snowpack, one site showing you echo peak 700ft closer to lake tahoe, may 1st, start out the month with that snow depth of 119in the most recent observation for today, already down to a 58in. Thats the sizable reduction in the snow, but theres still quite a bit left, especially as we head into june, 58in. But of course, that will continue as things continue to warm up for us, though, this afternoon. Partly sunny skies, winds do pick up around 20 to 30 miles an hour. Still keeping it cool right near the immediate coastline. Also right around the bay as well. San francisco downtown only in the lower 60s. And youll find some more 70s as you do work your way inland. Heres a five day forecast and just a minor changes for tomorrow. But the overall trajectory temperature is trending up and that will set the stage for a warm weekend inland. The warmest locations will be approaching the low to mid 80s and the warmest day probably on sunday. And then well cool things off into next week, probably by tuesday. And into wednesday. So its been quite the stretch of some cool weather, lots of lots of jackets, lots of sweaters inland. Youll notice that change not so much for the coast just yet. All right. So thats okay. You can kind of pick and choose what kind of weather you want. You wanted a little warmer. Just drive through the tunnel if you want it. Cooler stay on the coast. We always like to celebrate the microclimates. Definitely. Yeah. Thank you, mark. The campaign is underway. Former President Donald Trump, Governor Ron Desantis hit i a today. A life sized bronze statue of junipero serra, which is in front of San Rafael Church in san rafael, was vandalized and pulled down by protesters more than two years ago. The vandals were charged with felony counts, but the da just reduced the charges to misdemeanors. Amber lee spoke with the District Attorney about that decision. A small group marched in downtown san rafael to protest District Attorney lori for goalies decision to reduce charges in the case of five suspects who defaced and tore down a statue of saint junipero serra. It was located on private property where Mission San Rafael is located. The statue that was taken down ripped my heart out. I mean, this is part of our shared history. On october 12th, 2020, we saw people tying ropes around the statue and pulling it down. It happened during a gathering held by coast miwok of marin commemorating indiana peoples day organizers say they did not ask anyone to take down the statue, but say they were glad it happened. They say sarah is responsible for the destruction of native american culture. Theres different views on the saint, you know, but dont go tear the statue down. That doesnt help anyone. Thats just violence for women. And one man were arrested for felony vandals , which has been reduced to misdemeanor hours. It was really a historical upset and angst. Frugally says the reduction of charges includes conditions the defendants have been ordered to pay restitution, stay away from the church for one year and participate in a Community Forum with history and Church Officials and write letters of apology. We r spent 18 hours during the span of two years meeting with a Restorative Justice practitioner who works in the das office. The one thing we dont want to do is have this happen again. And so there are people in the church who want to have this disposition. They cant just walk up to any property and decimate something that means something to a community. The da plans to hold the Community Forum to bring all sides together within the next 60 days. One parish member tells me the statue has been restored, but there is concern that if its placed back in its original spot, it will be vandalized again. In san rafael, amber lee ktvu fox two news. Big changes could soon be coming to the former site of the oakland ghost ship warehouse just weeks ago, a nonprofit group, the Unity Council, bought the property where 36 people died in a tragic fire. Ctvs brooks jarocz has a look at what is next and how victims families are responding to those plans. A few reminders remain of what happened here in december 2016. The oakland ghost ship is gone. Torn down without warning. Im glad its gone. I think it took too long. I wish i could have watched it come down and just said good riddance. Colleen dolans daughter, chelsea, was one of the 36 people who tragically died in the warehouse fire for years, the burned out property has sat. Now it has new owners. It was a decision that we didnt take lightly. Chris iglesias, ceo of nonprofit at the Unity Council, which just bought the property for more than 2. 5 million as an organization thats been in the fruitvale for 59 years, that we would be able to give that site the care and the attention that it needs and really deserve the plan is to develop it into 40 to 85 Affordable Housing units. Its the right thing to do for the neighborhood. Oakland Council Member noel gallo represents the fruitvale. He says with homelessness a citywide crisis, housing is a priority and building on the site just makes sense. You got schools across the street, businesses down the street, transportation all around you. Its hard to imagine a better use. Mary alexander has represented the ghost ship victims families and says most are supportive of knowing it could be a safe space. This is what the community should be doing to help protect young people. Still, the families want to see a permanent memorial or tribute to those who lost their lives here. You want to have their names recognized not just though, the 36 victims of the ghost ship fire, but each one of them deserves recognition. Now and forever. Iglesias says thats under consideration as the nonprofit tries to overcome. Its weighed heavily on the community and i think this is an opportunity to continue the hill, but also to make something very, very positive for the community out of that. The Unity Council says once building plans are approved, construction could begin in 2025. In oakland, brooks jarocz, ktvu fox two news. A new respiratory virus on the rise. Time is running down for nevada lawmakers to vote on the as ballpark proposal. The Nevada Legislature adjourns next monday, but is still considering the 380 Million Financing deal for the new ballpark there. Although polls show constituents strongly oppose the deal, a hearing earlier this week showed support among state lawmakers there to provide public funding for the 1. 5 billion ballpark. I think that what we heard during that hearing was a lot of questioning. What does this mean for las vegas . What does this mean for nevada as a whole . Will this bring the jobs that the as have said it will and i think that there is the support for it, but its just a matter of, you know, lawmakers kind of coming to consensus on all the different parts of the deal. The as indicate that if it doesnt work out in las vegas, the team will consider moving to another city like portland, salt lake city, or nashville with just ten minutes to go in the hour or so, lets check in with meteorologist mark tamayo for a look at the forecast. Its never too early to start thinking about the weekend, mark, right. Were getting closer, ali. Thats right. So, yeah, in fact, the weekend we are talking about some 80s making a comeback inland. So i know its been kind of a cool week, at least at least a week here in the bay area. But temperatures will eventually trend up away from the coastline. So you can see a place like concord yesterday, 70 degrees, slight warming today, slight warming tomorrow, and the warming will continue into friday, saturday and sunday. Temperatures could be around 85 to 86 degrees. Well, that happens. That layer of warm air moves in. It compresses the marine layer. So its still foggy out toward the coast, at least for the morning hours. That could linger into the afternoon. That could lead to some dense fog and reduced visibilities. That will be developing as that warm air eventually moves in by the weekend. Heres a satellite and the radar as you can see, within the past few minutes, some lightning strikes detected once again out toward the sierra, right around the lake tahoe region. As we come in closer, here we go with the fog still hugging our coastline as we check out the north bay. Things have changed since our last update. The low clouds beginning to mix out a bit. Last time we had some cloud cover in windsor, not the case. It looks like we still have some overcast right around bodega bay. And then also right around portions of San Francisco. But even this cloud cover over the bay is beginning to lift a bit. And then Still Holding on to the overcast right around ocean beach, right around the Marin Headlands as well, out toward the Golden Gate Bridge. Current numbers out there beginning to warm up, especially the inland spots with the sunshine out there. Concord right now, 66 degrees. San jose , 69, San Francisco. Still need the sweater. The jacket here, temperature is in the 50s and up the north bay santa rosa, 63. Now it is a breezy to windy day and the wind will likely pick up even more so into the mid afternoon hours. Right now, you can see Oakland Airport westerly at 14 miles an hour. The current wind reports and theres sfo gusting to over 20 miles an hour. Here is our live camera looking above San Francisco. This afternoon. A bit of some haze out there. Still some scattered low clouds and as we check out the overall low weather pattern here, were showing you this this area of low pressure down to our south, down toward southern california. This has been keeping the bay area on the cool side, at least over the past few days. Itll kind of move on out to the east. We will have partly sunny skies, still some patchy fog, though, near portions of the coastline and then into the weekend. This area of High Pressure rebuilds. This is not a major warmup for the entire bay area, but temperatures will trend up especially inland. And we reintroduce the 80s as we head into the weekend. Heres a forecast models. We put it into motion and still showing you some showers and thunderstorms out toward the sierra once again. And we will probably still have some patchy coastal fog. And then into your thursday morning, low clouds once again, a factor tomorrow morning. And then we are expecting partly to mostly sunny skies tomorrow afternoon. So well talk about a warm up, but not so much for the coast. Just yet. You can see the forecast highs for pacifica, 58 degrees, 60 and 70s. No 80s just yet, but that will be changing, especially as we head toward friday and into the weekend. Here is a look ahead. Your five day forecast and just some minor tweaks in the temperatures over the next several days. You could see tomorrow warmest locations inland in the upper 70s. And then we say hello to the 80s again for friday, saturday and sunday. But of course, we have the microclimates out there. Thats why were showing you a bunch of numbers. Three rows, the bay side, not warming up as much and the coast still mainly in the low to mid 60s, but it has been and people ask me, gosh, it feels so cool around here. Really the whole year, like all of 20, 23, every month seems a little cooler than what weve seen in years past. Everything to the extreme lots of rain, right . And then lots of lots of cool. We will eventually trend back up as we head as we say hello to june. Well, dont want too much extreme heat. So this is just right. No real heat just yet. Thanks, mark.
