Three senior Law Enforcement officials tell nbc news the suspect has been identified add jared ramos. He was charged with five counts of first degree murder. A bail hearing has been set for later this morning. Ramos sued the Capital Gazette for defamation. A court ruled in the Capital Gazettes favor and an Appeals Court upheld that ruling. Police were note fided about an active shooter yesterday. Phil davis who was inside of the building tweeted this. A gunman shot through the glass door to the office and opened fire and on multiple employees. In a later interview davis said it was quote, like a war zone inside the newspapers offices. He said he and others were hiding under their desks when the gunman stopped firing. Authorities took a suspect into custody without exchange of fire. Editors at the Capital Gazette continued to report on the tragedy. This is the papers front page this morning. And the shooting victims shared a profession in bringing the public the news. Yesterday their friends and family told their stories. A reporter spent decades living his dream writing about sports he particularly enjoyed covering his alma mater where he met his wife andrea at a bar after he covered a Football Game and assistant editor celebrated his 33rd wedding anniversary. People know annapolis as the place of the naval academy. This newspaper is a local newspap newspaper. People know the reporters. So a difficult day for this community. Ramos has a bail review hearing at 10 30 this morning and as you mentioned hes got a long standing feud with the Capital Gazette after they published his name following a conviction of harassment and he got into this social media feud with the gazette. Four of the five killed were journalists after he opened fire yesterday afternoon. And talk to us about some of those victims that we are learning about this morning. White house chief of staff john kellys days may be winding down as new reports suggest he may leaf his post in the near chu fur. He may step down as early as this summer but possibly soon. Kelly has told colleagues he doesnt intend to stay beyond his one year mark on january 1st. But some say that departure could come as early as this week. Nbc news had rarted in late april that current and former white house officials expected kelly to leave in july saying the chief of staff and the president had tired of one another. The president is considering at least two candidates to replace kelly. How does this play into fears that allies have . Well, you put your finger on it, that theyre worried about the fact that were going to have a rerun of what we heard in canada. Behind the scenes, again and again President Trump has threatened to get out of the World Trade Organization. Now the wto adjudicates international disputes. The funny thing is the president is convinced we get screwed there, he says again and again. During the campaign he said that the World Trade Organization was a disaster. Very trumpian then. You look at the data, the United States does very well. Weve won 85 of our riecent cases. Reason this is so illuminating is shows how odd visors manage trump. They dont think hell do this and they try to explain. But when it happens in the end, he may just announce it. Insiders are saying to us, he said this enough times, they think the white house should take this seriously, put a policy process in place and deal with it, not just pray that some day hes not going to tweet that were getting out of the wto. What would be some of the major consequences we would see . This is an organization that his advisers believe ultimately help us. It would throw International Trade into chaos. Reporting that democrats are finally getting serious about the mid terms and the data theyre seeing. They went to a dnc data boot camp where theyre educating campaigns about how you help target voters. The new thing, the big thing, and 2020 campaigns, are going to focus on reaching individual voters. Like targeting us, not just demographics, but particular people. Another fascinating midterm story out there today, on the front page of usa today. Campaign ads that crush we talked about here on msnbc, they are ads are breaking taboos. Abuse and harassment, and so women candidates are besides just the demographic change and new perspective, that they bring to the debate, like the ads are already changing the look and feel of these big campaigns. So really wanting to hone in on the female vote. Thats right. And democrats know that the pockets that are rising for them, minorities and women and so watch the tv ads. Youll see that thats where democratic tv ads are going. What about republicans . Do they have a plan to focus on female voters . They need to do more of that. They certainly are moving away from the tax cut. That was not the ultimate answer they expected it would be. Were going to hear more about National Security as the president making big claims after north korea, and of course a strong economy. So a president with peace and prosperity at the moment, republicans down the ticket are going to help they can get a rbi rbi a little bit of that halo. Thanks so much.
