The Tiny Community of dicksville knox continued its tradition of casting the first votes. Michael bloomberg received votes. Poo Pete Buttigieg and Bernie Sanders got a single vote. Amy klobuchar was the favorite among democrats. She received 6 votes. Elizabeth warren 3, andrew yang, 3. Klobuchar took two of the five votes, while Bernie Sanders, buttigieg split the other three. President trump called a rally in New Hampshire. He said he wanted to shake up the dems a little bit. Addressing a crowd of 12,000 folks, he said it was okay to sabotage the democratic primary, urging his supporters to take advantage of the states semiopen primary which allows voters who are not registered to vote in the democratic or republican primary. We hear that there could be because you have crossovers in primaries, dont you, so i hear a lot of republicans tomorrow will vote for the weakest candidate possible of the democrats. Sanders kicked off his final event in the Granite State in front of more than 7,500 people packed into an arena in the university of New Hampshire in durham. He was joined by a number of surrogates, including congresswoman alexandria ocasiocortez, and a concert by the strokes in his remarks. Sanders did not attack any democratic opponents, instead he repeatedly went after the president. This turnout tells me why were going to win here in New Hampshire, why were going to win the democratic nomination [ applause ] and why we are going to defeat the most dangerous president in the modern history of america, donald trump. She is down two points since the surge on saturday following the debates friday night. 75 of sanders supporters and 68 of biders supporters said they are definitely decided on their candidate. It seems as if there are undecideds out there according to the polling we have seen so far. Lets go to New Hampshire, political reporter for the Hill Julia Manchester is down there. Good morning to you. Quite a day ahead, all of us hoping tomorrow morning as we are sitting here anchoring this show, we have the results of the New Hampshire primary. Take us through what to expect from todays primary. What are the early polls signaling about a potential outcome here . Reporter were seeing a little mix in the early polls, but there were two polls out on sunday night from Emerson College and Suffolk University in boston globe, and essentially they had the same three candidates in the top three, you had senator Bernie Sanders followed by mayor Pete Buttigieg and followed by senator Amy Klobuchar, and shes actually a candidate that has risen in the state ever since that knockout debate performance as many have called it on friday night. Her Campaign Said she raised 3 million since that performance, and i got to tell you guys, ive been following around really joe biden, Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar on the campaign trail and when talking to undecided voters, the three names i hear the most are sanders, buttigieg and klobuchar. Its interesting, how klobuchar who has been struggling to break into the top tier of the race is really appearing to make end roads in New Hampshire. Well have to see how well she really performs tonight. Let me ask you how critical this primary is. By the math, even if New Hampshire delegates, the total go towards Bernie Sanders, go to Pete Buttigieg who are, you know, arguably the one and two in iowa, youre still talking about almost 2 to 3 of the overall delegate count needed to secure the nomination. Why are these two states so important to shaping the rest of the race . Reporter its actually kind of been a controversial topic this cycle. Remember, iowa and New Hampshire may have some diversity in ideas and thought, and you know, people on the political spectrum, you have a mixture of progressives and moderates, undeclared voters and such, especially in New Hampshire. However, theyre very much majority white states and they arent very much representative of the country as a whole, let alone the Democratic Party. However, i think its the fact that they are the first two states in those first two states really set a narrative going into the rest of the race and give these candidates the momentum. Just take joe biden for an example. Hes been the front runner ever since hes essentially jumped into the race in april. However, after he performed very under expectations or had an underwhelming showing in iowa, we have seen that he seems to have continued to trail in the polls. You know, those two polls that i mentioned before, Amy Klobuchar is doing better than he is, and at a number of events this weekend, hes essentially said, look, you know, kind of lowered the expectations for himself in New Hampshire and he did the same in iowa. However, hes the former Vice President of the United States. He should have this universal name recognition, but its really not being reflected in the polls. That being said, his campaign is putting a lot more resources into nevada and South Carolina, so a come back is certainly possible. Well, we have much more to talk about. There are a lot of cross currents and we cant take anything we receive from the ukraine at face value, and for that reason, we had established an intake process in the field so that any information coming in about ukraine could be carefully scrutinized by the department and its Intelligence Community partners so that we could assess its providence and its credibility, and you know, that is true for all information that comes to the department relating to the ukraine, including anything mr. Giuliani might provide. Meanwhile, house judiciary chairman jerry nadler is demanding answers from barr about this socalled intake process. In a letter sent to barr, nadler asks him to provide a complete explanation regarding his decision to sidestep Standard Practice and set up another channel for information coming out of the ukraine. Considering this Justice Department and this attorney generals reputation so far, there are a lot of legal analysts that are worried about Rudy Giuliani having a direct pipeline to the attorney general especially when it comes to subjects like ukraine as if they are basically doing Campaign Work on behalf of the trump administration. What do you make of that . Its highly irregular. As a criminal defense attorney it seems bizarre to me if i had a client and that client was under investigation that the doj would set up an entire avenue for a direct line of communication if that client had tips or information. They would set it up and say the u. S. Attorneys office in pittsburgh for a person direct line to provide information, but its even more ominous than that, because Rudy Giuliani is a former federal prosecutor, a former u. S. Attorney. He knows that even if he truly believes he has no criminal exposure that federal prisons are full of white collar criminals who believed they had no criminal exposure. So the circumstances lead me to believe that Rudy Giuliani must have something in addition to that if hes freely going forward, knowing that he may be the subject of a criminal investigation, and continue to investigate and provide information about the same subject matter hes being investigated for. Do you think he could feasibly have something credible that he has handed over to the department of justice . More than that, its why would he provide information to a doj thats investigating him. You remember many months ago he said something to the effect i have really good insurance. He played that off as just a joke or whatever. If that was referring to President Trump at the time when he was saying i have really good insurance on the president. Exactly. And so Rudy Giuliani, he must have learned the lessons of mike flynn and roger stone. Why would Rudy Giuliani do this activity when he knows it exposes him to potential criminal risk unless he knows he has something in the form of a possible pardon in his back pocket. Theres no other real reason why a former federal prosecutor who knows he could be investigated and prosecuted and doesnt have immunity of any kind would continue to not only investigate something that is related to the subject matter hes being investigated for but provide information to the doj. It is an ominous implication if true. Obviously theres a lot of concern right now about where the department of justice is going, jerry nadler the chair of the House Judiciary Committee sending the letter to attorney general bill barr to explain what the intake process looks like. Walk us through a history of the constitutional law. What powers does congress have to try and control this situation before we find ourselves at the beginning of an election with all kinds of information that is being weaponized politically . What could they possibly do . Coming out of the Justice Department quite possibly. Congress can express its concern as it has but separation of powers principles dictates congress cannot dictate to the doj how they run their investigations or how they choose to accept information from a private person who may or may not be under investigation. So constitutionally speaking, congress can certainly make noise about it, but they cannot compel the doj to do something that the doj doesnt want to do. The doj takes its orders from the president. Congresss option is and always has been to pass legislature if they have a concern, and then that process as we know takes months, if not years. We certainly know where the president is leaning towards in terms of the kind of instructions hes giving bill barr and even Rudy Giuliani for that matter. Danny cevallos, thank you as always. Yesterday, widespread flash flooding, areas of alabama and mississippi, the river flooding continues in that region. Now we still have a big batch of rain heading through kentucky, tennessee, areas of virginia. Its a wet morning around washington, d. C. , baltimore to new york city. As far as what were going to deal with, as we go throughout the rest of the day, this is the flood zone area. One batch of heavy rain in between jackson and birmingham. Thats the worst of it, flash flood watch, still up for 21 million people. The first big round, another round of heavy rain tonight, and thats going to last through much of tomorrow. It wont clear out until we get to thursday. Its really areas south of little rock thats a concern. Heaviest rain tonight and later today, east texas through northern louisiana and then through mississippi. Heres the predicted rainfall totals, and this 1 to 3 inches is in the area of yellow, all the way from Central Texas to tennessee, kentucky, and into West Virginia but the best chance of getting significant flash flooding will be in areas from shreveport to little rock. As far as New Hampshire goes for primary voting. Overnight, we were pretty quiet, and now were starting to watch a little bit of light freezing drizzle pop up here in southern portions of New Hampshire. Its not going to be a big storm but we are going to be watching some light prescription coming throughout the day. We begin this half hour with that stunning new National Poll that shows Bernie Sanders taking the top spot and Michael Bloomberg surging as well with the help of black voters. The Quinnipiac University poll puts sanders at 25 , up 4 points since the poll was taken about two weeks ago. Joe biden dropping 9 points, now at 17 . Heres a surprise for a lot of folks, Michael Bloomberg surging 7 points, now at 15 . Even surpassing Elizabeth Warren who is at 14 and mayor Pete Buttigieg whos been at 10. They have been in it a lot longer than bloomberg has. Biden plummeted among black voters a stunning 22 drop over the last two weeks. Not a good sign for his campaign. Now hovering at 27 . Bloomberg, though, he picked up about 15 points among black voters. Hes bumped up to 22 . Senator Bernie Sanders tops joe biden among democrats nationally in the latest Quinnipiac University poll. Sanders with 25 of support is up 4 points since last month and 8 points ahead of biden nationally. The former Vice President now sits at 17 , down 9 points. Biden is a statistical tie for second place with the former mayor of new york city Michael Bloomberg. He is at 15 . Elizabeth warren at 14 respectively. Biden has also lost ground among black voters, now at 27 of support. He is down 22 points since last month. The new Quinnipiac University poll shows the top contenders in the democratic president ial field leading President Trump in headtohead match ups. Former mayor Michael Bloomberg with a 9 point stretch has the biggest advantage over the president. 51 to 42 as you see there. Senator Bernie Sanders is up 8 points against trump, 5143. Former Vice President joe biden leading trump 5043. Senator amy cloklobuchar has a point lead. The follow up from the Iowa Caucuses continues with Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg, both of their campaigns formally filing requests to recanvas specific precincts in the state. The Sanders Campaign cited mathematical errors, a check of the vote count against official paper records saying in a statement once the recanvas and recount are completed in these precincts, we feel confident that we will be awarded the extra national delegate. Over the weekend, the Iowa Democratic party had announced that buttigieg would be awarded 14 delegates to the Democratic National convention. Sanders would receive 12. Nbc news has not called a winner in the case and not making any independent delegates at this time. Arguing that the former south bend mayor will gain an even bigger advantage. The chairman of the Iowa Democratic party said yesterday that the party will review the campaigns requests and respond in the next 48 hours. And if the only way to correct the math would be a recount. Dr. Joe biden showing some strength yesterday. A protester disrupted former Vice President joe bidens final New Hampshire rally before the primary and was confronted by none other than dr. With primary voting underway in New Hampshire, former Vice President joe bidens campaign is already looking ahead to South Carolina. The New York Times reports that biden held a phone call with top supporters in the palmetto state yesterday where he expressed enthusiasm about the primary. Biden and his senior adviser, Simone Sanders suggested that South Carolina is where the nomination will be decided because it is a better snapshot of the Democratic Party than iowa and New Hampshire. Both predominantly white states as we have mentioned. Biden touted the endorsement he has received in South Carolina as well as from the michigan Democratic Party black kcaucus. The former Vice President will be a guest on morning joe later on this morning. The president tried to steal the spotlight, campaigning in manchester. Earlier in the show we played remarks of the president urging his reporters to sabotage democrats by using New Hampshires semiopen primary to vote for the quote weakness democratic candidate. He went after House Speaker nancy pelosi and former president barack obama. On tuesday i delivered my address on the state of the union. Lets go back to some of these polls we were breaking down just a few minutes ago, and more surprisingly, the National Poll that shows Bernie Sanders essentially taking the top spot, maybe starting to inch away with it a little bit. And surprisingly, the surge by Michael Bloomberg. It seems that his strategy of letting joe biden somewhat implode and waiting out on the wings seems to be working. Absolutely. In terms of Michael Bloomberg, he has invested so much money into the super tuesday states, really, and across the country in digital and television advertisement. He already has that universal name recognition as the former mayor of new york city and has the Bloomberg Company obviously behind his name, so he is very much surging, i think, in part due to name recognition but he has been very cleverly rolling out a number of themes and ads and messaging. You know, i covered the state of the Union Address just a week ago today, and i noticed that during the address, Michael Bloombergs campaign was essentially counter programming President Trumps address, sending out messaging, you know, touching on those topics President Trump was touching on, and sending out his own message and held a rally in philadelphia that same night. A lot of democratic primary voters i have spoken to said their top priority is finding someone who can beat President Trump, and mayor bloomberg is definitely trying to make that case, and it appears he has been pretty successful with it. In terms of Bernie Sanders, he also has the high name nerecogn. He was narrowly defeated by Hillary Clinton in a number of these primary races in 2016, and has built up this ground swell of support and built up his organization on the ground in a number of key states since 2016. So i think both of these men really have benefitted from joe bidens campaign appearing to decline in iowa and New Hampshire, however, we do know that joe biden has invested quite a bit in South Carolina. So i dont want to discount him yet. So lets look ahead to South Carolina as you mentioned biden really investing in South Carolina considering his popularity up until this point amongst black voters. We have this new poll, though, that we read through a little earlier from quinnipiac, seeing a 22 point slide amongst black voters for the former Vice President. That cant necessarily feel good for his campaign heading into South Carolina . Reporter not at all. And i think this really shows why iowa and New Hampshire are somewhat important or very important going into these middle to later primary states. You know, voters want to see their candidate of choice doing well right out of the gates. They dont want to take a chance and say, look, well see how he does in this later state. They want a candidate that they know is successful and like i said a few minutes ago, democratic primary voters want someone who they know can defeat President Trump and if these voters see joe biden flipping in these early states and flipping to candidates like Bernie Sanders, pooete buttigieg or in some cases, Amy Klobuchar, theyre probably going to start rethinking their strategy in a candidate. Higher in the mountains, thats where we could get maybe a slushy inch or so of snow. Otherwise its mostly going to be wet roads and a little bit of snow or maybe a little bit of sleet on the windshield, and that will be the worst of it. Sna as far as the snow forecast is going to go, its not all that bad. The area of white is an inch of snow. The blue is 2 inches. Thats really the top of mount washington, mostly the morning half of New Hampshire that will have other problems. The other story, a lot of rain. Showers and thunderstorms out of dallas fort worth, atlanta has a chance for storms later in the day, and actually atlanta tomorrow will probably be even worse. Thats when we could see the potential of some Severe Weather, and some significant problems out there. Baltimore, again, a little bit of rain out there, same with d. C. And fog early today. So the forecast for today, the heavy rain is going to return to the flooded south. The areas that are worse are alabama and mississippi. Thats where we had significant flash flooding yesterday. We still have river flooding and one of the other stories besides all this wet weather, the cold air is going to return. We had a decent shot of cold air thats going to start coming down. Minneapolis a high of 26. When we look at tomorrow, thats when it gets even cooler. Temperatures are going start to be in the teens.
