SFGTV August 14, 2014

Thats obviously the first part of 2014. 12 are currently active and only one is inactive. Of the closed cases 6 received citations and 43 were booked. Our closure rate 49 total cases submitted to the district attorneys office. And 6 filed as misdemeanors and on 6 citations were subsequently issued and only 2 were diss missed our misdemeanor driving while intoxication closure rate we had 90 percent that were filed and only 10 percent dismissed and i apologize i dont have the hard numbers on that. Our Traffic Company Administrative Functions theres some assignments that we fulfill on on a daily basis that the general public and some of you folks may or may not be aware of. The Youth Guidance Center Traffic Court on wednesday and we operate a Public Service window at the Traffic Company and adjudication and provide tow hearings and our administrative staff issues citations and issued to. Yes in fact its glaring that the aggregate number of collisions is not being presented and thats simply because were still a paper driven process and were trying to make certain that all of the systems that are in place are in accordance with one another and i met with the office this week to make certain that some 6 thousand collision incident reports 2014 are in line with what we have in our crossroad system the crossroad system is an incredible tool because it allows us to make a distinction of persons involved in collisions and basically gives us the tool to identify where our problems are what type of behaviors are the most problematic and to be able to put resources there according ly and our effort is to be as transparent and provide the public with as much information as possible and whats in front of you is actually a summary of each and every traffic fatal ity that weve had up to date and theres obviously a time factor here we dont want to give information out as soon as the incident occurs that may jeopardy ize the investigation and we want to provide the public with as much information as possible so that they are informed as to what behaviors are out there and what areas of the city are concerning clearly with many of the operations that weve done with the california Highway Patrol we focus on van ness avenue weve had 4 pedestrians killed on van ness avenue this year and thats unacceptable and as we put more resources there we hope to to curtail that activity and the same with the back to school enforcement. Using our partners that are going to consolidate volunteers to go out as well as having no nonsense motorcycle officers out there were going to give people tickets that dont listen. Suffice to say its moving from paper to having Real Time Data is essential so theres those parts collect it analyze it and use it and it would be great to see the number of operations at the next report around School Facilities and senior zones ill also be walking my 3 kids to school on monday so im glad you are out there and using the data and thank you for your continued partnership on this. One other piece of data we want to look at Going Forward is the percentage of citations to focus on the five. Yes. I know theres a lot of interests that you are looking at and that would be a good data point Going Forward. Actually i can offer that to you now. Of course you can [laughter]. Were at 22 percent and currently at 24 percent so you know when you are talking 66 thousand citations those 2 Percentage Points are significant in terms of of the actual number of citations ised for those areas. Yeah and we feel like they collisions are so preventible and so enforcing on those behaviors is something we hope thats going to continue to get great results. Thank you chief for prioritizing it. This has been a collaborative approach by the walk San Francisco and Bike Coalition i want to thank the Police Officers the numbers are down and the numbers of statistics are up and talk about patting somebody on the back the numbers speak for themselves here the numbers are way down thank you chief and commissioner its remarkable and can only get better. Commissioners, anything else . I know we have that joint meeting i guess it was what was it . Our reports do they get a copy of our reports . I know we talked about the proposal about zero and all of that anyway well share them with them. Absolutely were making these reports public. Ill make sure director gets this powerpoint. Commissioner . Is there anything that the folks in the Bicycle Coalition want to add to this . Sure. Its your last chance [laughter]. You cant leave. Oh, ill be back. Thank you commissioners. [laughter]. Im the executive director of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition for about five more months. Thank you for your kind words. Thats my favorite phrase thank you so much honestly ive been in this position of executive director for 12 years and i used to tell people one of the most difficult parts of my job historically has been this area i did not feel like we were making advancements around the enforcement issue and safety issue and i feel so much better about that today and thanks for your leadership commissioners and the team i feel so much better in in the last 6 months about where were heading like you said the numbers speak for themselves. Were moving in the right direction and i think theres so much more room to go and were going there. I have every confidence you are committed to that. Chief im glad you mentioned and highlighted the language thats used moving from calling something an accident to a collision thats a really big deal when i talk to my allies and peers in other cities they are really impressed by that not many places are doing that. And the transparency in reporting. And the data driven approach. I know were not all the way there but we know the will is there and we know the potential is there and that we will get there and i want to say thank you for this increased attention on traffic enforcement. Im certain that the work you are doing is paying off and on behalf of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition were really happy to have this partnership. Im really happy it doesnt feel like were butting heads it really really feels like progress. I want to commend you all and i have every confidence to you all that after i leave that the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is a hundred percent committed to continuing to work with you all and ill make sure i introduce right now two of our Staff Members on the team eric who is our Program Manager and working closely with the command aly and tyler is our new policy director joining us from washington, d. C. Doing a great job and they are here and they will be the ones bugging you next year and on and on and on and i want to promise you we will stay engaged and thank you very much. Safe travels. Good evening commissioners my name is Nicole Schneider i definitely want to echo leas comments i think weve made a ton of progress and were all headed in the right direction and i want to thank the Commissioners Office for her leadership on this. When someone says accident in his presence its actually one of the things that i reflect on or think you know when weve made progress this is one symbol that weve really made progress and of course commander aly and captain for your commitment and ongoing dedication to this right now we can get caught up in the data but when we take a step back, these are real people, innocent people that are losing their lives and we know these are preventible deaths. While we can stand here and present the data i dont want us to forget that were here to save lives and i think the other thing i wanted to commend the Police Department on is the commitment that different station areas taken captain lum has worked with us to create cards to give out to drivers to educate them on the five most dangerous traffic behaviors and also be giving out the enforcement efforts next week. And you know, i think Going Forward i just look forward to continuing the partnership and continuing the collaboration and making sure we get to that zero goal and you know, bringing in the other agencies and continuing to collaborate you know, you guys are not our only focus were working hard on the engineering piece weve announced lower speed limits i just appreciate your effort towards the enforcement piece and i know well get there at least by 2024 if not sooner thank you. Thank you. Thank you. One more. Next. Next is a presentation of the Second Quarter 2014 fdr finding and recommendations and ois investigation summary Sergeant John crudif. Good evening.
