He is playing around with American People and he is playing around with media. If he can tax, who is going to be paying at the end for the wall, its the same American People, american consumers. Do you think it will spark a wider trade war . I dont think he will do it because there is so much to lose for United States, starting with 10 million jobs, where mexico is accountable for u. S. Citizens by what we import every year into mexico. 250 billion u. S. The first big loss to the United States is 10 million u. S. Workers jobs, which he laz promised to protect. And hes doing exactly the opposite. You said this the debate has energized the mexican people. But the current president is in a difficult spot. Hes got historic low approval ratings. And the mexican people want him to stand up to donald trump and protect the reputation. But if he draws a line in the sand, president fox, doesnt he risk severe Economic Impact to his country . He, president pena, is already coming back to much higher popularity levels. I know that president cardenas, when he nationalized the oil industry and took it away from abusive u. S. Oil corporations, he became the most popular president in mexico. This is a big move for president pena. But the bottom line is, the experts say the issue isnt voter fraud, its outofdate registrations. And to punctuate the point, nbc news has confirmed that four of those closest to trump are among those registered in two states. One week into his presidency, President Trump is focused on the election that propelled him into office. Blaming widespread voter fraud that cost him the popular vote. Were going to defend the vote of the american citizen. Reporter the president blaming millions of illegally cast ballots. People registered in two states. In registered in new york and new jersey. They vote twice. There are millions of votes, in my opinion. Reporter voting Officials Say there is no evidence of widespread fraud. But they do agree with the president that millions of people are registered in multiple states. Among them, members of trumps intercircle. Steve bannon, steve me nuchen, and jared cure kushner. Im told that language is being finalized for that executive order. It wont necessarily be an investigation. But perhaps, more of a review. And the other one has to be that this is going to be a tale of split screen america. His detractors will find cause every day, to light their hair on fire. And his supporters will final kernels of him keeping his word. I think rarely in american history, have we seen a president come in and deliver a shock to the system. Thats people in both parties used to washington and politics working a certain way. Not sure how to process this. Lets move on to something else. He ran on the wall. And he ran on the idea that the media is bad and dishonest. Now, his chief strategist at the white house, steve bannon, gave an interview to the new york times. Quote, the media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for a while. The media here is the opposition party. They dont understand this country. They still dont understand why donald trump is president of the United States. People watching may say, well, i agree with some of that. The media did get the election wrong. But theres a reason he made these statements at this particular time. Whats the political strategy here . Hes trying to buck up his number one client. And the truth is, the leader of the free world is obsessed with media coverage. And theyre desperate to get him to turn off of the tv. And theyre trying to put steel in his spine. The truth is, he gets sad when he watches coverage that isnt good. He gets sad and bummed out when that hes still not over the pictures of his crowd size. What do you think about that . I think its also its an invitation to the media, trying to bait them into fighting, instead of reporting. Trying to bait them into a fight they can turn around and say, hey, look, they are out to get us. Its a challenge for the media. Almost like a referee in a basketball game. The coaches are yelling at you, keep calling the game. It worked for him in the election, to discount the media. I spent a week of talking to his voters. They are happy to see him stand up for himself. They are frustrated when it looks like hes squandering valuable time in these petty fights. Talk about difference in 10 or 12 days. Let me play you a portion of what barack obama had to say to the media and the press, in his last press briefing. Youre not supposed to be syncfants. Youre supposed to be skeptics. Your supposed to ask me tough questions. Youre not supposed to be complementary. But youre supposed to cast a critical eye on folks that cast e norm us a power. And make sure that were accountable. Good morning. Matt, good morning. Its nostalgic for me to be at this chair. That was part of my career, as well. I have been fortunate to covered so many of the events that shaped our world. An i wanted to have candid discussions about those stories and the impact theyre having on the time were going through right now. And try to understand the impact theyll have on our nation and especially where we go from here. He was a charismatic in 50 years as an nbc news correspondent, i reported on some of the most momentous events of our time. Live from the berlin wall. Thats a television microphone. I think mostly because of all of the good things that happened to me. And when i do say, if i had been one shade darker, i wouldnt have gotten any of those jobs at that time. One shade darker. They say, oh, i dont think we can do this. Were a much different world, now, thank goodness. And i think theres a lot of opportunities that are out there. At the same time, we still, far too much, see the world through pigmentation. Somebody sees a white person, if theyre black and come to con cushions that are not always appropriate. On the other side, white people look at black people and they unload on them a lot of the cliches of our time. We need to find a way that we can converse with each other and understand each other. We come from, many times, different cultures. But were common americans. We have to find a way to the future. Do you look forward with hope . I do because its more incremental. Theres a lot of gains going on. If you look just at our business. Had a great africanamerican correspondent on here. We didnt have those. Al roker is an american icon. When i was doing the today show, it was all white bred. Thats changed a lot. Political america and cultural america. We have to be able to talk to each other. If i can be personal for a second. Also, i have two little kids. And kids can be stressful. I love them. But theres moments when i baby was screaming nonstop. And instead of holding her close, i wanted to implode or explode. My head, i was like i know a lot of parents can relate with. What do you do to lengthen your fuse . Do you have personal hygiene for Mental Health stuff . No. I need something. Got it. The biggest lesson, finding my inner urban monk, in this urban jungle. I learned a lot from the urban monk. Some things i have to admit, i did better than others. The morning routine was a little hard for me. But the main things i took away, is to take a break from social media. And it creates time and space for more important things like relationships. Other than her eating the neighbors, is one of the greatest things that happened to the marriage. Theres some benefits i here of youre helping her kill people that arent good in your lives.
