Shortly after the final five grabbed gold i had a chance to talk to simone biles, Laurie Hernandez. This time we had Something Big to celebrate. What does it feel like to have the gold hanging around your neck . I mean, it feels pretty heavy. We are very excited. It doesnt really feel real. We worked so hard. I had someone ask me if we it is the exact opposite. If anything we push ourselves more. 15. 8. You guys didnt just win, you won huge. Not even big. There is winning big and then winning huge. An eightpoint spread. Simone, did you guys think it would look like this when the final tally was made . Honestly, yes and no, right . Because prelims went so well and we felt like if we repeated then you cant control what the judges do. We just went out there and had fun. You nailed that last floor routine and it was over. That is an olympic gold medal winning moment. How does it feel to have that gold medal, girl . It feels so good. What did it feel like when had won . What was that moment like for you . I felt relieved but very excited because laurie went up first and totally rocked it and then aly. Wow. And then it was my turn to just finish it off. I was very proud of the whole team. Making history is something so special and to have this unique bond with all of these girls and to represent usa as best as we could just feels amazing. You made history, baby. That is so great. For those of gold before, at the Olympic Games it is rare you get to see someones life change right in front of you. We got to witness it happening. Describe how their lives will change. It will be crazy. A lot of attention. A lot of press. We always say the best competition to win is Team Competition because we get to celebrate together. When we get home we are doing a 36city tour and travel the country in tour buses and be we were just like them. We were little. I remember like going to one of the tours and watching these two. They are so cute. I had the chance to sit with some of their parents. In the 8 00 hour we will get their reaction. You can imagine what that was like watching your kid doing so well. One thing is really clear, the aquatics stadium has been really good for team usa. It certainly has. Conor dwyer won bronze in mondays 200 meter freestyle and haas were part of the relay. Purerseverance that took pla mostly outside the knew it was time for practice. My thoughts were when can i get back in the bed. Her battle with depression nearly ended her swimming career. A place that i love, a sport that i love and diving every time and fail. I didnt know what else to do. Psychologist in early 2015 but it was just the beginning of a very difficult year. Got that phone call. It was shocking knowing that my younger 17yearold cousin killed herself. Had such a promising future, had just came back from visiting a division i school. She in many ways was like you, outwardly happy helping others which is what a lot of your teammates have said about you. S one thing that i can say is if i her and let her know that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Aprils death was a wakeup call for allison. She needed to find light at the end of her own tunnel. Would never share when she was in a bad mood. We are taught at a young age to push through anything. I think we use that mentality all through life. I think now i realize you can never get through life alone.
