Welcome to today on this saturday morning. Im Sheinelle Jones in for erica hill. Im alongside john roberts and im craig melvin. We have dylan dreyer out in San Francisco. I thought the patriots would be out there. A bit and switch. I was conned into this one. This is my first time in the San Francisco bay area. We have talked to so many incredible nfl players. We have taken in the sights and doing as much as we can physically do in a 24hour period. We will have the highlights in a few minutes. We will come back in a bit, dylan. Lets get to the stoptop story. In taiwan, hundreds of people had to be pulled from the rubble after the earthquake. Many of the injured are babies and children. Nbcs Kelly Cobiella is in london with more. Kelly, good morning. Reporter sheinelle, good morning to you. It is now dark in tainan and more than 800 soldiers are helping to search for the missing. They were in the huge Apartment Building. Some infants. The Apartment Building is 16 floors and basement. People who got out say they calling for help. Reporter one after another, rescuers pulled babies and children from the collapsed concrete. Mothers too. Clearly injured and in pain. This was the 16 story Apartment Building. More than 80 families living inside. Now the focus of the massive rescue effort. The bed shook. Everything toppled this woman said. She and her husband made it out on their own. Across the city of 2 million, many did the same. The quake struck when people were sleeping. I was awakened by the violent shaking of the whole building. The quake began before 4 00 a. M. My 7yearold was in a different room. We could hear her crying for us and we could not get out of her beds to walk to her. Reporter the 6. 4 earthquake was strong and shallow. By dawn, its impact clear. Cars crushed under balconies. Dozens hurt. Dozens more trapped. This morning, the biggest rescue effort is here at the wegwan building. Rescuers pulled more than 200 from the rubble. Even family pets. They are still searching for survivors here and across the city. Already, there are questions if builders cut corners on the highrise. The focus is now on recovery efforts. Dozens hospitalized. Reports of more than 400 injured now. Many people are spending the night in shelters while rescuers still are not sure, sheinelle and craig, how many are missing. Thank you, kelly. Authorities in new york city will be back on the scene of the deadly crane collapse as they figure out what caused the structure to topple. High winds when it started picking up speed. It slammed into a building and crashed to the ground scattering see here. The 300 tons of twisted metal killed one and injured three others and crushed several cars. Wasnt worse. Some candidates could make hampshire. The stakes are high with the first in the nations primary just 72 hours away. We have you covered on both sides. Lets begin with Hallie Jackson following the republicans. Reporter good morning, guys. A lot of interest in the race. Officials predicting a record turnout here in New Hampshire. We are looking ahead to tonights debate where donald trump will be on stage this time after raising eyebrows the day after his snow day. Blaming snow in New Hampshire for skipping straight to South Carolina. Promising he is not leaving the Granite State in the cold. My focus is in South Carolina. Reporter trump pulling crowds in florence, but in New Hampshire, jeb bush. Tweeting at trump, my 90yearold mother made it out to campaign during the storm. Trump bashing bush back. Jeb bush has spent 112 million and nobody shows up. What the hell . Reporter while trumps still leading in New Hampshire, it is marco rubio rising to second now. Explaining why to nbcs gabe gutierrez. It is not enough to be angry. You have to tell people what you are going to do. I think the cumulative effect of doing that for months will help us. Reporter rubio at tonights debate sits in the line of fire and the other establishment candidates look to make their this state is a must win for some. Even as rubio picks up an endorsement from bobby jindal and takes aim at ted cruz. If you get a call on tuesday night saying i dropped out. It is not true. Keep voting. Reporter that is a dig at the senators campaign. Cruz looking ahead and confident. Though slipping in New Hampshire polls, but in the top tier nationally. The two big initiatives im running on, repealing every word of obamacare and adopting a simple flat tax so you fill out your tax on a post card and abolish the irs. Reporter what can we expect to see at tonights debate . Look for immigration to be one of the major topics. It is important for marco rubios potential vulnerabilities and what donald trump likes to talk about. We could see the republican field pounce on that. On theemocratic side, Bernie Sanders holds a lead over Hillary Clinton in the Granite State. The question is will hillary be able to come back for the primary . We have Kristen Welker with the latest. Reporter good morning, sheinelle. Senator sanders has a 20point lead over secretary clinton. She added events to her schedule today. She is bringing in an army of volunteers and telling supporters dont give up. With the democratic race growing more combative, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders faced off at a party dinner. The only way we create the change that we need is through a political revolution. I will spend all my tomorrows doing everything i can to make your tomorrows better. Reporter following a day filled with fireworks. I want to say a word to the extraordinary people, are supporting senator sanders. I know you may not be for me now, but i am for you. Reporter meanwhile, Bernie Painting clinton as the ment ment. Reporter he has been hitting clinton for being entrenched with wall street and giving speeches to Goldman Sachs and clinton responding to andrea mitchell. Are you sorry you did it . No, im not. I thought it was a good way to communicate what i was seeing in the world. Reporter accusing sanders of smearing her. I think the campaign he claims to be positive is engaged in artful smear and inuendo. Reporter sanders has a double digit lead. Supporters ready to put a win on the board. We are tired of playing the we want to see things happen. Reporter clinton is calling in reinforcements hoping for a repeat. She was trailing barack obama here, but now she is looking to pullahead. And during the debate this week, secretary clinton said she would look into the possibility of releasing the transcripts of paid speeches. So far the campaign has not released anything and officials tell me they are looking into it. Meanwhile, today, sanders and clinton have a busy day of campaigning ahead. Sheinelle. Kristen welker, thank you. Alice jordan is here with us. And Steve Kornacki is here with us as well. Good morning to you. Steve, lets start with you and lets start with donald trump. A commanding lead in new some polls show him flipping nationally. He skipped the debate in iowa, but expected to be on the stage tonight. Lets talk about what he has to. Is New Hampshire a mustwin moment for trump . I think it pretty much is. The 13point lead, the eight day stretch is the most volatile eight days in american politics. You remember Hillary Clinton and barack obama, she was trailing at this point in New Hampshire by double digits. She came back and won on primary day. The cliche is a lot can happen in a short period of time in politics. That is true this week. We have seen marco rubio starting to move up significantly in the polls here. Donald trump is maybe sliding back a bit. He is not growing. If you are donald trump and lost iowa and turn around and follow hampshire, especially after leading, it is really hard to see how he can jump start his campaign in later stages. Board steadily or seen to be beating expectations steadily to stay viable in the later contests. He has to come out with a win tuesday or he is in trouble. Alice, steve mentioned marco rubio. Up six points in a recent poll. You have the outsider candidates or socalled outsider candidates. Ted cruz and donald trump going after him tonight. You also have kasich and christie and governor bush as well. Campaigns on life support. How big is the bullseye on marco rubios back in the debate tonight in New Hampshire . He is the one they have to take down. He is cutting into the vote margin. Especially for christie and kasich. It is make or break. He has a poor showing. He is probably out. Kasich has about 2. 5. Doesnt look good for him. Kasich has put all resources in New Hampshire. He does have the best ground game of anyone. And steve, lets talk about Bernie Sanders for a moment. Enjoying a commanding lead in New Hampshire. New hampshire has been kind to the clintons. With bill clinton in the past. His campaign. And Hillary Clinton in 2008. So is there any sense that support will perhaps turn out on tuesday and give c cnton a bit of a surprise victory . I think there is an expectation this will tighten. You have polls showing between 20 or 30 points for sanders. Most people think that will tighten. When you look at the Clinton Family history here, you think of Hillary Clinton obviously coming back and winning in 2008, but the other one was bill clinton in 1992. We remember New Hampshire as the state that made him the comeback kid. What we forget is he actually lost New Hampshire that night by eight points to paul tsongas. That is how he called himself the comeback kid. That is something to keep in mind. I think the Clinton Campaign wowod likeo get out of New Hampshire, they would like to they like to close with some momentum. They like to be able to tell the media, look, Bernie Sanders is from next door. He is from vermont. A huge advantage there. There is not a huge advantage to being from vermont here in New Hampshire. That is another story. They will say that. They want the media to put an asterisk on it. They want to say we beat expectations. Elise, quickly. After New Hampshire, South Carolina primary. Hillary clinton doing very well in South Carolina. Do very well around the south as well. After New Hampshire, is there a path for Bernie Sanders . I think it just depends on how successful bernie is at expanding his message beyond nonwhite voters and if he can reach more diverse audiences. So far, he hasnt been successful. It is exciting to watch. Elise and steve, thank you for talking with us this morning. Holding a michigan manho they say was plotting terrorist attacks in the name of isis. I would have been more prepared for standing out in the snow. Thats what im used to. I did not bring my hand warmers. We did have snowfall across new england yesterday. We saw this as a little engine that could kind of storm. The snow just dumped on rhode island and this is in warwick, steady snow. Connecticut and massachusetts pick up nearly a foot of snow. We havent really seen this driving conditions all that much this winter. It was tough for the cars to get used to that and getting used to shoveling off the snow. We will see a lot of the snow melt away. Stream to start to build in and help temperatures warm above average. We should get into the 40s and 50s especially as we go into the next couple of days before the next storm system begins to work closer. We will have more on that in a few minutes.
