At least we gain the sunshine back. The clouds weve seen are finally moving out. As we take a look at the present numbers, 40 degrees in philadelphia, 39 right now wilmington and millville. Mid 30s all points north and west. The Lehigh Valley trenton right now 37 degrees and the poconos the snow guns are back on with temperatures there in the 20s. But you factor in the wind. Weve dealt with this all day long. Wind chills in the 20s right now reading allentown and lancaster 33, philadelphialy and millville and at the shore temperatures feeling like they are right around freezing. There you see the really thick clouds continue to push to the south and east off the coast. Youre starting to see those clouds evaporate so to speak to the north and west and that will be the trend overnight tonight and even a couple of flurries breaking away from the great lakes that made their way as far south as the Lehigh Valley today. As we look at the forecast for tonight, clouds to stars, less wind, 26 degrees in allentown, 29 in trenton, 32 in philadelphia and 20s in interior parts of southern new jersey and future tracker wind chills once again tomorrow remaining in the 30s but again were going to have full sunshine so it will feel a little better than it did today despite those wind chills staying on the winter side. The mummers parade. This unique contest of costumes music and dances brightens new years day every year. Action news gray haul joins us live and today was no exception was it, right, gray . Reporter right, monica, no exception at all. The parade actually just ended a few minutes ago. As they do every year the mummers take over the streets this is the way thousands have been ringing in the new year more than a hundred years lining the streets of center city celebrating at the mummers parade. They can expect everything every year its better and better. Better and better every year. If this is your first year its going to be your best year. Reporter . Thats a great tradition. Great way to and the holidays and its wonderful. Reporter those who show up say it is a sight to see, the young, the old even philly jesus came tout out to take part in the entertainment. Many come year after year and the reason why its clear. This is fun. [laughter] reporter its a one day event for most but the mummers work all year to make the floats and festive costumes all in hopes of winning first prize for best show. This is the 116th edition of the parade and for newcomers and regulars it is never a disappointment. This is our first time to the parade. We absolutely love it. Its a great tradition. We watch it usually on tv and thought wed come downtown this year. We love seeing people have fun. Its fun. Its just a little bit crazy but family friendly. But as in years past the mummers parade was still not without controversy. Viewers took to social media voicing concerns of continued insensitivity. The comic division sparked backlash for the way it portrayed Bruce Jenners trance formation into caitlin. As the mummers strutted down proud street protestors held a march through center city. They wanted to call at tension to the parades history of racism. Action News Reporter john rawlins was there. Reporter the black lives matter actor 50s formed up in groups north and south of the parades televised performance area at 15th and market next to city hall. What do we want. Justice. When. Now. Reporter the smaller of the two groups was north of market. Protestors chanted for justice. Signs referred to victims of Police Shootings and advocated for school funding. In an earlier release the group stated the had targeted the mummers parade claiming it has a history of race is. Reporter protestors think their message was heard today. I believe that you are paying attention to us and if there hadnt been a mummers parade here you might have been somewhere else. Reporter one young protestor said some parade watchers actually joined the protestor effort today while others scoffed. Unfortunately white power and material lidge runs this country so we have gotten a lot of negative comments from people telling us to get jobs get off welfare. They dont even know who we are and we havent done anything to anyone. Reporter the other large are group of protestors moved south. They calm up at walnut street where they were greeted by bike patrol officers. Protestors come down the street, Police Headed them off. Reporter they made a barricade with the bicycles. The protestors went back underground and returned to the parade route at locust treat. Protestors briefly held up the parade. Two people were arrested a 45yearold man an 34yearold woman. She was charged with disrupting a procession. He is charged with disorderly conduct. Police say the actual disruption was very brief. The overall protest lasted about two hours. The estimated number of protestors about 50. In center city, john rawlins channel6 action news. Fire damaged a row home in north philadelphia early this morning. The flames sparked at about 1 oclock here in the 2200 block of north uber street. Firefighters arrived to find flames coming from the second floor. Crews had it under control in about a half hour. Fortunately nobody hurt. The cause is still under investigation. A crash in West Philadelphia did injure at least one person this afternoon. You can see two mangled cars here after the collision at the intersection of west girard and north 38th street. This one happened about 2 30. A 27yearold man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Be prepared to pay more when youre traveling the pennsylvania turnpike. Tolls do increase starting on sunday. Officials say the tolls will go up 6 percent in 2016. That money will go towards repaying some loans that were used to fund road work projects. The commission expects to impose annual fare increases of three to 6 percent every year until 2044. Ez pass customers will still enjoy a slightly lower fare. U. S. Nature tends to try to balance herself out so at the end of the year temperatures swung up to 13. 7 degrees above normal and that was horticulture warmth as those numbers were well above any december we have ever seen in city of philadelphia. 37 trenton, 36 allentown, 35 in reading, 39 in wilmington and millville and 40s from dover over to Sea Isle City with that ocean still very warm in the low 50s. Wind chills 27 allentown and reading, 38 in wilmington, 33 in millville and wildwood. And just 19 thats all it feels up in the poconos. Satellite and radar finally we started to see those clouds evaporate rip apart whatever you call it. Its a beautiful site especially to the north and west. It was a blow torch here most of december as that jet stream pulled way up into Eastern Canada moving those southwesterly winds our way and in fact 13 days we have high temperatures in the 60s and 70s. Thats almost half the month of december. Again what comes up must go down and thats going to happen here early in january as a chill pulls in with a straight shot of arctic air coming in from Eastern Canada and that will bring highs only in the 30s. Then with that arctic front on monday a lot of clouds and there could be a flurry or two for most of the region at 36 degrees but nowhere near anything that would accumulate and then on tuesday, its full sunshine but that sunshine doing very little to warm us. The core of the colds here, 31 for a high temperature. But it doesnt last long. We bump those temperatures back up into the 40s wednesday, thursday friday. Thursday clouds thicken up ahead of another storm to arrive and at this point it looks like a chilly rain unfortunately so as of right now, we cant link that cold with the precipitation.
