This all happened in the Port Richmond area of philadelphia which is a scene of chaos and carnage tonight. From the air tonight, you can see the cars hurled onto their sides surrounded by a sea of flashlights searching for victims. On the ground, you can see the images of the wounded. This is the aftermath of an amtrak train that overturned with more than 200 passengers on board on their way from washington d. C. To new york city. As of right now, five people have been confirmed dead. Several others injured. Some of them critically. The train derailed in the frankford section of philadelphia with seven cars overturning. Still, most of the people were able to walk off the train themselves. It is an absolute mess. Never seen anything like this in my life. The trains, seven cars including the engine are in various stages of disarray. Turned over upside down on their side. We are still investigating whats going on. About 9 38 Fire Department personnel responded and encountered six overturned train. We immediately declared it a mass casualty event. I could see the train shifting to the right. At first you think its minor. Suddenly the cars just got tossed. Then the moment of chaos. The things all tumbling around you. An event like i mean everything had to stop and there was because our car had actually landed on the side. The bottom windows were in dirt. As many as four area hospitals have received injured passengers. That train was scheduled to arrive in new york city at 10 35 p. M. Philadelphias fire commissioner is calling the accident a mass casualty incident and the citys Emergency Operations center was activated. Did you see people who were seriously injured . Abc news learned the federal Railroad Administration is sending a team of investigators to the accident site though it would not confirm any other details about the accident.
