Injured, two homes destroyed. An investigation under way. Bad time to tweet . New information on the big flub at the Academy Awards. There is a mistake. Moonlight, you guys won best picture. The twitter post that may have led to one of the most embarrassing mixups in oscar history. Today, tuesday, february 28th, 2017. Announcer from nbc news this is a special edition of today on the hill with matt lauer live from capitol hill and Savannah Guthrie live from studio 1a in rockefeller plaza. Welcome to this special edition of today on a tuesday morning. I am matt lauer standing smackdab in the middle of the u. S. Capitol in washington. Savannah guthrie is back smackdab in the middle of studio 1a in new york city. How about this for a view . Nice spot. I have been looking at your beautiful shots of washington, d. C. I thought, arent they peaceful when they sleep . Its going to be a busy night in washington. I am standing above where the inauguration took place, about a month ago. Let me set the scene for you. I am standing on the speakers balcony. He doesnt know were here. Thats not true. He knows we are here. Down the hall from where i am right now President Trump tonight delivers his address to a joint session of congress. Seated behind him, of course, will be the speaker of the house, paul ryan. We will step into his office in a moment for an interview. Let us begin with nbcs peter alexander. On the east front of the capitol. Good morning. Good morning. We have another gorgeous backdrop. White house officials telling me President Trump will put the final touches on tonights speech over the course of today. Already theyre giving us preview. Senior white house Officials Saying that the theme of tonights speech will be re newe renewal of the american spirit. President trump will focus on what he has already accomplished in his first month in office and also focus on the economy and security going forward. As he prepares for his first formal pitch before congress. President trump ready for his closeup on capitol hill, offering a preview on fox news. All i can do is speak from the heart and say what i want to do. We have a really terrific, i believe, Health Care Plan coming out. I will be talking about the military. I will be talking about the border. Mr. Trump rolling out a budget blueprint of priorities. Promising a massive military buildup pumping an additional 54 billion into the pentagon. Intelligence agencies. We h he vows to slash spending from other agencies including the state department and epa that could have a Significant Impact on domestic programs and foreign aid. Surprising pushback from more than 120 retired generals and admirals including david petraeus. In a letter they warn now is not the time to retreat from diplomacy and development. Untouched according to senior advisers. Entitlements like medicare and Social Security. Mr. Trumps plan, unacceptable to democrats. Once again, middle class people, working families, will be hurt. Repeating his call to repeal and replace obamacare, the president expressed surprise at the complexity of health care reform. Its an unbelievably complex subject. Still looming over the white house lingering questions about the Trump Campaigns possible ties to russia. Mr. President President Trump rnd were escorted away. This is what the president said three years ago. I own the miss universe. I was in russia, in moscow recently. And i spoke indirectly and directly with president putin who could not have been nicer. Republican darrell issa standing by his call for a special prosecutor. A move the white house quickly dismissed. Russias involvement and activity has been investigated up and down. The question becomes at some point, if there is nothing to investigate what are you asking to investigate. The republican chairman siding with mr. Trump. Thats what i am concerned about here that we dont go on a witch hunt because american citizens just because they appear in a press story. The top democrat arguing their investigation is just getting under way. It is, i think, way premature to draw any conclusions about whether there was collusion. Meanwhile the white house deflecting crism the navy s. E. A. L. Killed in a special operations raid in yemen last month. The senior owens raised questions about the mission. I can tell him on behalf of the president his son died a hero, and the information that he was able to help obtain through that raid, as i said before, is going to save american lives. Multiple u. S. Officials tell nbc news the raid has not yielded any intelligence of value, at least not yet. As of this morning we are getting an update on the evening speech and who the president invited as his guests. The list includes maureen scalia, the widow of Antonin Scalia and three individuals whose loved ones were killed by undocumented immigrants. The white house tells me tomorrow the president will announce his revised travel ban executive order thats been on hold in a court for three weeks. Thank you very much. Im joined by the House Speaker paul ryan, giving us an exclusive interview. Thank you very much. Good time to have you. You spent time with the president at the white house going over the agenda. One of the things we learned yesterday was more about the outline for his budget. He is planning massive spending increases in the areas of the military, intelligence, National Security and to offset that, massive cuts in other domestic programs. And he says he will not touch Social Security and medicare. Does this work . We havent seen the full budget yet. You just saw a piece of the budget which is what a new administration always does. But this is a promise that he made that we also ran on which is our military has been hallowed out. We have gutted the military in many ways. And we have had huge increases in domestic spending. He is trying to get that balanced right. Weve long believed that we put our spending out of balance on what we call Discretionary Spending, weve hurt the military and given lift in other areas. Were trying to get the balance ri made in Discretionary Spending and if you dont touch entitlements like Social Security and medicare i dont have to remind you, you have been talking about this for a very long time. Its not popular, but you have said weve got to make tough choices on those entitlements. Can he balance the budget without touching them . We have never proposed this is what the president is talking about, we have never proposed a change in benefits for current seniors and people about a retire. Within the tenyear budget window. Were not saying were going to change benefits for anybody in or near retirement. No one has ever proposed that. What people like me have been saying is for those of us in the younger generations. Xgen on down the programs will be bankrupt by the time we get them. We have to reform them for the next generation. The president doesnt agree with that. I believe he does. On Social Security. That problem is not as acute as our health care problem. Doing obamacare reform, replacing obamacare, is entitleme care. I think the point he is trying to make with the first piece of his budget is our military has been hallowed out. I met with the admiral running the Pacific Command talking about how theyre running out of munitions. They have a problem and he is trying to address it. You mentioned health care. Lets go there. Last time we sat down in your office january 12th, 2016. I said you cleaned the place up a little bit. I said to you then, why is it the republicans have been trashing obamacare for six years at that point seven years now and not presented a viable replacement. You masaid, by the end of the yr well have the plan. That deadline came and went. We ran on a plan last year. You didnt give us a plan that can be voted on now. You know republicans within their own party have deep disagreements over how to replace obamacare. So do the American People have a right to say, we have heard the criticism for year after year, and yet we still dont have something that can be put on president s desk . Thats exactly what we are doing right now. See, were not writing some bill in the back room in harry reids office like obamacare was written. We are going through the committee process, going step by step, going hearings. This is how the legislative progress is supposed to be designed. Your predecessor made your job a little tougher last week, john boehner came out and said, all this talk about repeal and replace, its not going to happen. He says, its happy talk. What theyre going to do is theyre going to fix some bad parts of obamacare and wrap it in a conservative box. That is not repeal and replace. That is not what we are doing. Let me say it this way. Obamacare is collapsing. Obamacare had i think the democrats got too far ahead on their ideology and gave us a system where the government runs health care. They gave us a system where costs went up, not down. They gave us a system where choices wen they gave us a system where people lost the Health Care Plans that they liked that they chose, that violated all the promises that were made that were given when obamacare was sold to the American People. Those promises were violated. Now we have a collapsing marketplace. We really believe we are in a rescue mission to prevent the collapse from occurring further. I want to say a lot of people disagree with the terminology that obamacare is collapsing under its own weight. Let me read you something the president said yesterday. This is a guy who ran one of the things he ran on was im going to repeal and replace obamacare. Yesterday speaking to governors about health care he said this, i am quoting. I have to tell you its an unbelievably complex subject. Nobody knew health care could be so complicated. Nobody knew health care could be so complicated. As a details guy. I have been working on health care for a couple of decades. As a policy wonk doesnt it take your breath away when the president of the United States says nobody knew it could be so to office not as a policy wonk working in congress on health care. How do you run on repealing and replacing obamacare if you dont know its a complicated procedure. The bill that were working on is the bill that we ran on last year. The bill we are working on is the bill were working with the senate and the white house. Its much like the bill that tom price, who was sort of the Gold Standard reformer of health care, introduced last year. He is now the health and Human Services secretary. Here is the point lets take a step back. People want peace of mind in the Health Care System. People want to be able to have choices in a Health Care System. We want to get costs down. We want to give people more choices. We believe in a patientcentered system where all the providers of health care services, hospitals, doctors, insurance companies, compete against each other for our business as patients, consumers. We should make decisions on how health care works, not some which is restricting our choices down to the point where a third of counties in america have only one plan to choose from. To the bigger picture. Doesnt it seem often, mr. Speaker, that President Trump talks about big ideas without diving into the details of how to accomplish his prom iises, le im going to defeat isis. Im going to repeal and replace obamacare. Im going to build the wall and the mexicans will pay for it. As a guy who dives into details, doesnt it frustrate you sometimes . I see him more as a chairman, a president. Like successful president s have been. He gets detail people around him to execute the plans. You hire james mattis as your secretary of defense to come up with a plan to defeat isis. You put tom price, an orthopedic surgeon, chairman of the budget committee, who has worked on health care for his entire adult life in charge of health care. You hire and surround good delegate the details. Delegate the details to good people who know what theyre doing and have experience in thesete objectives are met. That the goals you ran on to improve peoples lives are met. Thats the kind of commander in chief i think we need in this country. I spoke to former president bush yesterday on the subject of possible russian ties to the trump to trumps associates during the campaign. He says the American People need answers. Is there anything you could hear that would make i decide we need a special prosecutor to look into that . We thats the executive branch. I understand. We think we need to do an investigation here with our Intelligence Committees. One thing is unique about this, which is this gets into the methods of collection of intelligence data. Sources and methods. Its very, very sensitive. The most sensitive tool in our National Security tool box. The people here have gone through the process of understanding the tools. However, the Intelligence Committee with a majority of republicans and people want a bipartisan investigation. Its a bipartisan investigation. Both the house and senate Intelligence Committees are beginning thei i we are increasing the scope of the investigation. Here is the point, matt. You have to be mindful of the sources and methods of our Intelligence Community so you dont compromise how we collect and gather intelligence. While we get answers to these questions. Dont forget, the Obama Administration had an exhaustive investigation before they left office on this point. We need answers. We need to make sure that Nothing Happened that shouldnt have happened as we go forward. Thats exactly what we do in our jobs as congress. We think the Intelligence Community is the right place to do it. I really appreciate the time. We fixed the place up. Appreciate you joining us. Mr. Speaker, thank you so much. This is a guy who has been getting a lot of attention in the last couple of years. Alexander hamilton. The broadway show named for him. Got a statue of George Washington. Standing next to the statue of washington, the live speaker. A guy who is actually alive. Speaker ryan. I said the last time we were here was about a year and a couple months ago. You had only been in the jobs two months at the time. Thats right. Whats the most important lesson you have learned about doing this job properly in that time . Patience, composure, temperament. You have to be a good leader. You have to be decisive and make sure that things work, get done and listen to a lot of people. That, to me, is how being successful in this job needs to can occur. I look at this job look at this place. Its breathtaking. Stepping into statuary hall. I walk through here all the time and think how did a kid from wisconsin. Growing up waiting tables. Mowing lawns, working at mcdonalds end up doing this. Only in america. I just get a i am appreciative of the opportunity and responsibility that comes with it. You have to be able you have said this to me to get rid of the white noise. You have to put the noise of washington and headlines aside to do your job. You went home to wisconsin a week or so ago. I was home this weekend. Yeah, right. You didnt hold a town hall meeting when you were home, did you . No, but i do quite a few of those. I didnt this particular time. Did you not this particular time because of whats been happening to other republican members of congress . No. I went to the rio grande to talk with the border patrol. I did other things i had planned long ago. In an interview this morning the president was asked by another network if he thought president obama was responsible for the organizing of some of the protests we have seen at town halls across the country for republican members of congress, and he said yes, i do think president obama is responsible. Would you agree with that . I believe obamacare was responsible for it. A Health Care Law that screwed up the Health Care System i think he meant he is now behind the scenes organizing protests. I have no knowledge of such a thing. There is the white noise i am talking about. What i am focused on here is doing my job, making sure congress works, making sure we solve peoples problems. We have been entrusted by the people of this country to fix problems. Thats what im focused on. Not the white noise and distractions of the day but on getting things done to improve peoples lives and make good on the promises we made while we campaigned. We campaigned on an agenda to fix problems and we have to deliver. At the end of the hallway there are the doors to the House Chamber. You are the guy who actually invited the president , in your official capacity, to speak to the joint session tonight. What kind of reception do you expect him to get in that room . We always try to make sure everyone gets a respectful reception. We did it with obama, even if what hes saying as president we expect respect. Its a place of decorum. I believe well hear from the president inspiration. Lets go fix problems. We ran on solutions. We need to deliver for the American People. I think it will be a speech that speaks to all americans, inclusive. Have you seen it . I have seen parts of it. What i saw i liked a lot. Because we have big problems to fix in this country. If we dont tackle our problems in america soon, theyll tackle us. We have to do it together as americans. Thats the tone and temperament im accepting from tonights speech. The speaker gave up the gym this morning to do this with us. Are you sure you dont want to take the 350 steps to the top of the dome with me . I dont have time. Youre welcome to come. Thank you so much. Appreciate it. Paul ryan. Speaker of the house. More of the tour coming up. Back to new york and al. This is the space needle in seattl they not only got snow. Thundersnow. Relative humidity at only 10 . Fire danger a big problem. Look at the records we are expecting today. Chicago, you could break a record. It will come close at 60. Memphis. Paducah. Tomorrow we move east. Boston coming close. New york city as d. C. Out in dulles could break a record. Same in raleigh. The warm weather continues. And good morning again. Welcome back to today. 8 00 on this tuesday morning. And how about this for a view. We have been spending the entire morning at the u. S. Capitol in washington, d. C. Site of tonights speech from the president. And we have made it up 365 steps from where we were in the rotunda to the top of the capitol dome. It is the best view you will you may remember not long ago the whole dome was encased in sk scaffolding. The renovations ending in 2016. I here with the man in charge of the renovations, the 11th architect of the capitol. Steven. How are you doing . Its great. Lets do a 360degree tour. Pick out points of interest. Here on capitol hill first. In 1791 pierre la enfant wrote to George Washington that this capitol hill was a pedestal awaiting a monument. Here we have the monument to democracy. Union station. Over there. Senate Office Buildings here. Thats the Supreme Court building that will be the site of so much drama in the coming months. It is. The Supreme Court met here in the capitalfr when they moved in the new building dined by cass gilbert. Roman temple inspired design. Across the street what some call the most beautiful building in america. Its interesting to contrast the two. One, sort of the quiet, stately aura of the Supreme Court to the exuberance of this Thomas Jefferson building. The library of congress. It is. The torch of knowledge at the top of the library dome is magnificent. Moving over to this side of the capitol, looking down, we have the house Office Buildings on this side. Yes. The Office Buildings here. By the way, the capitol was expanded from its original structure because of the need for more space as the nation expanded westward. We had more members of congress. Exactly right. You can see that here on the house extension of the capitol. The fourth architect thomas walter, designed the house and senate extensions and the brandnew dome that we are standing on today. The botanic gardens. Looking in the distance, i hope the folks at home can see that. You get the potomac river, a plane taking off from National Airport in the distance. Thats exactly right. On final approach here another one over the national mal. You point to this and the national mal. This is really the money shot. If youre standing in this Vantage Point, take a look out over that. Its extraordinary. This is our front yard, isnt it . You can see through the wall to the washington monument. To the right of the monument, the white house. Beyond is the lincoln memorial, and beyond that Arlington National cemetery. We have been up here for a few minutes today. We have heard a number of cannons going off. Must be a number of services at the cemetery today. I have to say, there are very few times in my life where i say its worth taking 365 steps. But you know what, this is one of those times. Steven ayers. What a pleasure lets go to ground level and check in with kristen welker. Because i am i am not paying for college for vail and charlie. We all know who the daddy is. I know. Anyway, guys. When i landed in washington yesterday, i hopped over here to the capitol and started tour of some of the places people dont ordinarily get to see. This building is steeped in not only history but sometimes mystery as well. From inaugurations the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. To funerals. The capitol has been at the center of american history. Shortly before he delivers his speech to a joint session of congress tonight, President Trump will be brought into this office. This is the speakers or speaker of the houses ceremonial office. All president s come here before they deliver a state of the union address. Everything is traditional washington, except for one thing. In this corner there is a very modern television monitor. This is so that the president can watch whats happening in the House Chamber before he enters the room. This building not only the heart of our democracy, but of dividing our nations capitol into its four quadrants. That is the center of washington. This is a room called the crypt here at the capitol. One floor below the rotunda. I want to show you something else. Its one floor beneath this. Down this staircase, its almost always off limits. This it called washingtons tomb. Its one level below the crypt here at the capitol. Now, this is where George Washington was supposed to be buried along with his wife martha. He made it clear he didnt want to be buried here. He wanted to be at the family home at mount vernon. That was where he was buried. Even though there is no body here, this place is still under lock and key. And the tomb is not the only secret the capitol keeps underground. Most people are probably familiar with the more ornate spaces of the capitol on the upper floors by the rotunda. But down below there is an get lost. For example, the speaker of the house travels around here in a hallway like this all the time. Originally this was built or these were built so the people who worked at the congress could avoid the sometimes nasty weather in washington. No frills down here. Sometimes just on a wall. To House Committee on appropriations this way. While a lot of people take the subway or train to work, this one might be the most exclusive of them all. Right now i am getting to do something very few people ever get to do. I am taking a ride on the subway car that travels beneath the capitol and goes from independence avenue, one Office Building over there, into the capitol itself. This is how members of congress travel during the day. Certain cars are reserved for members only. This is really important when a member of congress has to rush back to this building to take part in an important vote. By the way, in days gone by, it instead, they actually had stew studebaker automobiles and thats how people got back and forth. What would a visit to one of americas most Historic Buildings be without a ghost story. Here is a story most wont tell you about the capitol. These are the blood stairs. A long story, but suffice to say there was a longsimmering feud between a member of congress and a reporter. The feud came to a head 127 years ago today when the reporter confronted the congressman on these stairs, took out a gun and shot him. The marks on these stairs are said to be the blood of congressman william talby. From time to time people who work here say they see his ghost. 224 years of history. And countless other secrets kept within these halls. The scene of great interest tonight when President Trump delivers his fi you can watch the speech here on nbc, 9 00 eastern, 6 00 pacific time. And i am going to make may way down now, savannah and al. They tell me 365 stairs are more easily nav gatigated on the wayn than the way up. A tribute to your crew, carrying all that equipment up and down the stairs. Absolutely. What a beautiful morning and a beautiful view of our capitol. Thank you so much and have a safe trip home. Lets go, craig reporter this all comes as a shock for the Celebrity Health nut who appeared on today just last month to help whip our own craig melvin into shape. You did a really, really good j job. Reporter he believes his Family History is to blame. In his 2008 book are you ready he opened up about how his mother suddenly died from a heart attack saying, i never imagined before that my mother, of all people, could develop Heart Disease. Genetic risks for Heart Disease and sudden death like bob harper are probably onethird of the equation. Twothirds are lifestyle related. Those are indicators that your heart is not happy. It mandates a checkup. Reporter harper posted this update on instagram overnight saying he is, quote, feeling better, just taking it easy. For today, morgan radford, nbc news, new york. Such a wakeup call to all of us. Someone like bob harper. You think, my goodness. You said yourself this motivates me to get it checked out. First, this is today on nbc. Were back, 8 38 with former teen idol and Partridge Family star David Cassidy speaking out after revealing he suffers from dementia. Joe fryer has more on that. Reporter good morning. I spoke with dr. Phil about why cassidy chose to reveal his illness now and how the Family History of the disease impacted his life and outlook as he faces a new reality. David cassidy, once a teen heart throb and always a popular singer battling dementia. He says he was diagnosed two and a half years ago. Dementia. I have. He has a history of dementia in his family. Was he worried someday he might be diagnosed . He has been worried about it. Were there signs or clues that made him realize he should check it out . There were. He told me that it was friends who were pointing out to him lapses in memory. What was the first symptom that you noticed . When friends of yours or family members begin to say to you, remember i just told you this two days ago, and there is no memory of it. Thats when i began to be very concerned. Was that what caused you to say, i need to get myself checked . Oh, my god, yes. He wants his fans to know that he, in his words, is okay. He said, i am in the very early stages of dementia. Why is david c first off, i think he is really becoming an activist with regard to dementia. His grandfather died of dementia. His mother died of dementia. Video of a scary scene at a recent concert, later posted to tmz raised concerns for cassidys fans. Some questioning in his behavior was due to drinking which he denies. The beloved star has had three duis since 2010 and spent time in rehab in 2014. A lot of his fans, they felt like he was slurring his words. Losing his place in the show. Slipped and falling on stage. And they thought, you know, hes relapsed. He says, thats not the case, i actually have dementia. And so i think, in part, he was says are rumors and false allegations. You did slip off the stage at one point. Not really slipped, no. You slipped on the stage. When you have spotlights in your eyes and you have had five eye surgeries as i have. I talked a lot about it. Youll see me there. I tripped on that. But i certainly wasnt intoxicated. It has nothing to do with why i am leaving. Ser certainly my dementia has contributed to the reason why i dont want to go out and i dont want to hear, well, he looked like he was drunk, or he looked like he was i wasnt. Youre like, no, i wont be there. But you would be there we have convened, privately for dinner. It was great. Well, im sorry. Thats not working for me. It was really we had such a good time. It was hilarious. We were laughing nonstop. Now you just seem mean. I know. That was really mean. If we dont tell you one is coming and it doesnt happen, you have no reason to be disappointed. Managing expectations. It would be fun. What it would be about . I was thinking. Where would stevie be right now . I dont know. The thing we liked about that show was that it was like 20somethings. They were their own family. Now they have families. What would we watch . Its funny because we were both that age and now were boring middleaged people. I dont want to watch me. I dont want to watch you. Thank you so much. Table 19. Really fun. There will be no more table 19s at weddings after this movie. Coming up next. Were all living longer. We all need to first, this is today on nbc. Were back with something new were calling ageproof today. First up the big question, how long do you expect to live . Over the past three decades the average Life Expectancy for men in the u. S. Has jumped from 70 to 79. For women, 77 to 83. And the number of americans now 100 or older is up 2200 since 1950. How do you make sure youre financially prepared to live a longer life . Today financial editor jean chatky breaks it down in her new book age proof. Good morning. Lets dig in. Age proof. What does the word mean . Its essentially taking care of both your health and your wealth. I wrote this book with a doctor from the cleveland clinic. He will be here tomorrow. The deal is, you cant be just healthy or just wealthy because either one on their own doesnt work anymore. You have to have them both working in the same direction. We lay out a plan in the book to get there. They say your health is your wealth. Here is the most important question. How much do you need to be comfortable . How much should you save . You want to aim for ten times your final salary in Retirement Savings by the time you get there. I know a lot of people are not even close. A few things can help you to adjust. If you have a traditional pension, about 17 of americans do, you can reduce the amount that you have to put away. The ten times your final salary is supposed to cover about 45 of your spending in retirement. If your pension covers 15 of that you can take it down by a commensurate amount. If you know youre not going to make it, reduce your spending now. That enables you to put away more for later and to have to spend less later on. I was going to ask you, if youre looking to free up money between now and then, downshift. That could mean moving someplace less expensive. Eating out a little bit less. Whatever changes you want to make so that you can save more. Lets say you have the money saved, but now you have to divide it so that it works longterm. We have a pot of money. We have to make it last 30 years. Thats how long retirement will last. You can only withdraw about 4 of your single year. And fidelity recently did a study on this. They found people think they can withdraw 7 . Some people think they can withdraw 12 . Thats way too much. Also, think about what you mean when you talk about retirement. We ask people, what are you doing when youre retired . A lot of them said, hey, were working. Some people want to work. Some people want to work. As weve talked about on the show, it keeps you younger, happier and healthier. If youre going to do that, your money has more time to grow, which is a great thing. If you know, again, that youre not going to make it, correct course. The folks at age wave did research and looked at what happens if you work parttime at age 60 for another three or four years. Come up with a couple hundred,000 dollarstra. What about an annuity. I want people to look at something called a qualified life annuity contract. We write about it. Within your ira or your 401 k which lowers your tax bill in retirement and helps to ensure for longevity. We have to talk about this. Consider emergencies. People think, i am no longer working. I in retirement. I dont need an emergency cushion anymore. We tell you an emergency cushion is for when you lose your job. You need an emergency cushion in retirement because emergencies still happen. And just having a few thousand dollars put away can mean you dont have to dig into credit card debt, you dont have to panic if something happens to the roof or happens to your car or you have a medical expense. Jean, good advice. Cant put it off. Ageproof yourself. Age, skin, wealth. Tomorrow well make sure your minds and bodies are ready for living a longer life. Thank you. Listening to black magic by little mix, who are here. Theyve got a huge announcement besides a live and added to that mr. Nick lachey here with us for the second day. Thank you, guys. We havent had a guest cohost for a week long in a long time. So glad to have you. You drive them out after one day. I am a glutton for punishment. I am stunned you decided to come back. Its your first night back in the city. No kids. No wife. I bet you blew the doors off last night . Oh, yeah. I went out and raged. No, i literally got back to the hotel. Took a nap. Hit the gym. Ordered room service. Caught up on homeland. First time i have been away from the kids for a long time. I love my kids but having a day to catch up on the sleep was awesome. Are you ready to conquer the world . Tonight im going out big. Rest of the week going big. I needed one day to get my bearings. Tonight what time are you getting to the olive garden . What time is the allyoucaneat buffet . There is Something Really i cant do that with the family because everybody is looking at you. When like youre traveling and youre on your own, its like, bread sticks, keep them coming. I dont want to see the bottom of that basket. You understand me . There is no bottom. Yesterday ill tell you this, full disclosure. Off camera. Nick has three kids. I have three kids. You have 12 kids. I have three kids we are all in this party of five. Nick was saying do you live in the city . I was like, yes. He was like, three kids in the city . Youre crazy. People say that. Its hard to have three little ones in the city. I grew up in kansas. I am struggling with it. I would love to hear what you guys have to say. Were on the train the other day, and my kids are playing ring around the rosy my twins. 4yearolds. I was having a moment. When i played ring around the rosy. We were looking at no one is paying them any mind. You didnt see them all fall down. This is my life. Youre a city kid. I grew up in new york city. My oldest daughter grew up in west chester. My two kids grew up in new york city. I dont think its what youre used to. Its just not. Its a different way to grow up. Lets face it. Very different than kansas or ohio where i grew up. Not better or worse. Not better or worse. I did have a moment on the train yesterday, and the day before, pretty much every day where im like, wow, is this their life . There are so many positives to it. I think theyll be salvivvier a0 than i am now. You used to have billboards on the train that says there are 4 million youre touching right now holding that rail. Do you think about that aspect . There are just as many germs on that School Play Yard in kansas or oklahoma or anywhere else. Look, it is what it is. And i have to tell you, some kids grew up taking a school bus to school. Yeah. I grew up taking the bus and subway. But i am telling you, it i think kids are kids wherever you go. To that point, last week we get the notice from my sons preschool, so you are aware we have had two cases of pink eye and a documented case of hand foot and mouth disease. I look at this like, do we send him to school today . He seems fine. With a newborn at home you worry about that stuff. The older kids come home with someone and next thing you know its running through the whole family. I think you have to. It toughens them up. Builds up the immunity. Look. When we used to eat dirt. Turned out just fine. That wasnt that long ago. It was the old nbc commisary. It was a Johnny Carson show. He goes its the only place in new york where you can eat dirt cheap. We have not yet forced nick to play a game. One of our producers, gavin, loves to create games. Were going to play a game called lacheywhat . Everybody say it together. Cheywhat . Well share fun facts we learned about you from the internet and youll tell them whether theyre true or not. Okay. Your nickname is slider. Oh, man. All right. Is that true . Its true with an asterisk. I want to hear why. In the early days of boy bands you would do teen beat. Tiger beat. All these interviews. Everyone had to have a nickname. Top gun was one of my favorite movies so i panicked and said slider. Now i have tshirts and hockey it was never really my nickname. Its like small hamburgers. I am a big fan. Especially with cheese. I just panicked and came up with it at the time and it stuck with me. I love the next one. If its true we share something in common. Your guilty pleasure. Barry m Barry Manilow. True. I heard his velvet voice coming from your dressing room yesterday morning. Its a miracle. It was because my mom growing up was a huge Barry Manilow fan. First time i met barry, i said, i have to tell you you were a huge inspiration to me as a kid. Oh mandy, will you kiss me and stop me from shaking and i need you today, oh, mandy wow i mean, the man, he can sing. The man was a talent. Is a talent. Still doing it. We did he is really afraid of being on a boat. We did a show from a cruise ship. Sounds awful already. We had to get him from the harbor to the boat, and he had to take a small boat. He was like freaking out. What did you do . We did like mr. T on the ateam. We knocked him out. Sounds like he has bad management if his manager knows he doesnt like being on boats and books him on a show on a boat. I dont think he told him. He wouldnt have shown up. I love this one. True or false. You and your brother own a sports bar in cincinnati. True. Che ywhat . Its called la cheys bar. Its been open for a little over two years. Were big sports fan. It was always our dream. Whats it called . Lacheys. Went ou a go back to your hometown and open up a bar. Its like the ultimate man cave. You dont put it in your house. You open up a bar and you go watch games in your bars. Like cheers. Except you have to pay the bills at the end of the day and hire waitresses. Its an eyeopening business to be a part of. I had no idea. One other thing we share in common if this is true. One of your favorite foods. Tater tots. Very true. Cheywhat . Yes look at that. Jerry here. Many meals in the school cafeteria. Do you serve these in your bar . We do. We serve many bowls with toppings. My favorite is bacon and cheddar bar. You can pick your own menu for your bar. Tots whenever you want them. How can you not like a tater to the . I feel like iee chocolate milk box with this. Since the best picture blunder hearn and seen around the world. Starting to get a little more clarity. The firm, pricewaterhousecoopers. Taking full responsibility like they had a choice saying the presenters for the best picture were given the wrong envelope, leading to a series of mistakes and breaches of established protocols. Now, new questions this morning about whether an illtimed tweet first reported by the wall street journal could have been partially responsible for the debacle. Accountant Brian Cullinan, in charge of handing over the envelope, tweeted this picture of emma stone with her oscar back stage just moments before the mixup. Cullinan has since deleted the tweet. I bet so. Cullinan and fellow accountant interviewed about their role in the oscar ceremony before the show and what would happen if something went wrong. If something were to occur, we would go directly to the stage manager and let themow and they would make a correction probably right then on stage and do it live. That worked out pretty well thats essentially what happened. As quickly as they could. However, our executive producer Jeremy Feller believes that this is was done on purpose. What . He said, it is it is a conspiracy that they did this just to get more attention. I dont think this is good attention. I love a good Conspiracy Theory but if your firms reputation is on the line this is the one thing you do and take pride in yes. I just dont see them sacrificing that for this conspiracy. I am with you, nick. And to have people talking about it. What makes me mad is when people delete their tweet and think they retrace history. Well hear more from our executive producer tammy from im sure there is somebody in the universe who agrees with you, tammy. Yes, there is. I am sure. Cheywhat . Just ahead, tammy and her celebratory black outfit. Just ahead, blame it on inflation. Can you guess how much the tooth fairy is shelling out these days for one tooth . Well tell you. If youre like me, you found yourself banished to the back of a wedding reception at a table with complete strangers who have issues, even secrets. Thats what happens in the movie table 19. Look who will be sitting there. Emmy winning actress lisa kudrow and the hilarious Craig Robinson. Good morning, guys. They play a bickering married couple who, as you can expect, are not the life of the party. Yeah. Welcome, guys. All of a sudden he changed his mind and wont say why. Since when does a man need a reason to go to a wedding with his own wife. He has a pathological aversion to answering a question directly. He always answers with another question. Why did you make facebook friends with henry facebook. You answered with a question. Why are you looking at my facebook . You just did the same thing. Okay. All right. Lisa kudrow. Craig robinson, good to see you guys. Good to see you. Good table. Do you like this table . Its great. Its safe to say youre going in. I like this. Buttering the roll. Buttering the roll immediately. I love you first, buttering the roll. Thats impressive. So. Mission accomplished. Were you guys when you have gone to weddings, have you been at this kind of table . Yeah. You mean lovely . Or table 19 near the bathroom . Yeah. I am always at this table. But you know, i am so i mean, i am such an idiot i always think, hey, lucky me. Im far away from the music and close to the bathroom. Seeing your guys characters in the movie, we can tell something is not quite right. Whats g a couple as we first meet you in the movie . Were not getting along. 20plus years married, havent learned to resolve, i guess anything. Anything. There is a lot of passiveaggressiveness, a lot of jokes that are a lot of anger masked as jokes. You know what, craig, its relatable. Youre not screaming at each other. We have all met couples where you have been together for a while and issues are lingering and they come up. Yeah. It gets awkward trying to sit there like because they forget youre there and they start arguing about something and youre just like, im just going to be over here. The movie definitely captured that. Whats great about this film is that its relatable across the board. What are some of the other issues that other people at the table and wedding are dealing with that people can relate to . Well, being in prison. Steven merchants character. Tonys character is trying to get laid at the wn he is late at the wedding . He is trying to score. Trying to score. Oh, oh. You laugh because at a wedding, lets face it, you putted a single people together hoping they get to know each other. The joke is table 19, the people who if they dont come you dont care. You can relate. Its funny. Were the reject table at the wedding receptions. We were supposed to know not to not to come. Just send a gift. Send our regrets. I didnt realize this, but you guys actually we have a clip that you were together on friends. You have the clip . Oh, good i shouldnt be surprised. You shouldnt be. Thats me. Thats you. Its at a wedding. Watch this afro, though. You can be anything you want. Anything. Yes. Anything. Oh, this could take get out of my line. Okay. That was so good. Early in your career, man. Yes, yes. And she helped me out in that. I was you know, we did the little rehearse. Then i was like i threw out the joke like get out of my line. She was like, say that. Say that. Pitch it. Its funny. Lisa gave me early confidence. Now look. Now youre together yes. Finally thank you so much. Table 19 hitting theaters on friday. Coming up next, new drama everybody is talking about. Brian, do you honestly expect me to believe that you are not still deeply affected by your sisters murder and by the fact that her killer is still alive . Woo congratulations on last nights premiere. Thank you, thank you. Talk about your character. You play a director of national intelligence. Yes. Set the stage. Its clappers role. Thats where i am. Yeah. I am organizing different intelligence agencies, and i have a black ops team of my own. I recruit brian mills to be part of the team. She is a nomess, intense a little bit ruthless. Not going to lie. But for a good cause. For a good cause. I notice in these shows and in that clip everybody on these shows, especially when there is a lot of action, talks about a half octave lower. Your voice. I think its the previous shouting that had gone on in the earlier iteration. Or the early smoking she did that she gave up later. Youve really gone into this character. Yeah. It was so much fun. I have to say, you are carrying so much kind of dark energy, even though youre balancing with it, you know, a righteous cause, goodness, youre carrying so much energy, by the end of the pilot i felt sick. I felt like i had an ulcer. I thought, how am i going to do the series for so long. I have to figure out how to handle this. I started meditating more. That helped a lot. There is a lot of action in the show. Your costar was here last week showing everyone how to do a stunt. Al helped out with that. We get a role for al . I think we could use an assistant stunt coordinator. There you go. Youre watching. Jennifer. You see this . I have seen it. Its amazing. Natural ability there. Look at that. Yeah now we need to get you holding some kind of weapon. There you go. While he rolls . While he rolls. And going through fire. Exactly. Exactly. That was really good. Youre also in a new film called before i fall. Yes. You are the mother of a teen girl who dies in a very serious kind of groundhog day, you have to keep reliving the day over and over. Yes. She keeps reliving the day over and over until she can figure out how to do the right thing. Wow. So she gets the opportunity to change each time, and she has to learn that she is not her flaws and that she wan become a better person. What i love about the script is that it talked about how at any given moment in your life, you can change the rest of your life. Even just by following one good thing. Follow one good thing. Its very powerful. Is beautiful. Thank you so much. Deep roles. Congratulations. Its been fun. Thank you. Watch taken monday nights at 10 00, 9 00 central here on nbc.
