Your kids to school with sunscreen . The surprising rule in many school and the growing fight to change it. And i thief. The man allegingedly steals mor than 100 phones at the coachella festival before getting busted. How the find my phone app busted him. This is today live from studio 1a in rockefeller plaza. Good morning. Welcome to today on a tuesday morning. Let me be the first to say happy tax day. Thank you, i love forward to this every day. We have an important guest. Senator Elizabeth Warren is here. She will probably poo poo this, but some are saying shes releasing a book today. This could be an unic 2020. You are poo pooing it . I am poo pooing. Well talk to senator warren in a little bit. Lets start with the nationwide man hunt for the socalled facebook killer. We have the latest on the search. Well start with jacob rascon in cleveland this morning. Reporter good morning. The tips are pouring in from across the country. Reported sightings as far away as philadelphia, but so far no credible leads as police offer a substantial reward for help and a close friend pleads for him to surrender. They are chasing hundreds of leads. The chase for Steve Stephens a nationwide man hunt after he killed a man at random in daylight and posted video of the crime to facebook. I lost everything i had. Reporter horrified neighbors heard the single gunshot. Oh, lord, have mercy. Oh, my god. Reporter a 911 dispatcher attempting in vain to help godwin. Ask him the if hes breathing. No breathing. Reporter in a video rant posted to facebook, he brags about killing several others, but police have found no evidence to support it. You never know what an individual the is going through in his life. Reporter his friend for nearly a decade is now urging stephens to turn himself in. I know you are in pain, but brother, you got to turn yourself in. You already hurt other people. We ask to reporter last night the Cleveland Cavaliers observing a moment of silence in godwins memory. As neighbors and relatives come to mourn where he took his last breathe. A father of nine, the 74yearold was on a walk on Easter Sunday while his family prepared dinner. I hate that he took my kids father. Reporter angela small, the mother of godwins two youngest sons remember their last words. I told them okay. Ill see you when you get back. He didnt come back. Reporter in a statement Facebook Says it took them 23 minutes to take down the video after the first complaint, but they said we know we need to do better. Ed in video stephens blames an exgirlfriend for making him snap. That woman is cooperating with authorities who are now offering a 50,000 reward for anyone who might have seen something to say something. All right. Jacob rascon in cleveland. We want to bring in clint van. Good morning to you. Take us inside a suearch like this. A guy wants attention and has nothing to lose. The turned off his cell phone. He has tear car. How do you find someone like this . One of the things you said is the key. Temporary tags. Those could be torn off. So police are going to be looking for stolen license tags, stolen vehicles. Today there were so many technological ways, any way from faci tracing credit cards to automobiles to cell phones, and this technology is being brought to bear at strong as they can with the fbi, a the tf, marshal service, local police. There are hundreds of officers looking for this man and rightfully so. He did a coldblooded killing. Hes capable of doing this again. Me presents a threat to any Police Officers that might stop him. Youre. Youre a former profiler. Lets talk about his personality. He walks up to a total stranger and way, even telling that person what hes about to do. So he is narcissistic. Hes sadistic. How does that change the hunt for him . Part of it is he didnt just snap. We hear people saying you just snapped. It doesnt work like that. Theres been a buildup with him. We know that he has a history, even as a child, were told, that he tortured animals. Were told that hes been evicted from two different apartments, that he has significant gambling losses, that his girlfriend broke up with him. All of these add a little bit of weight to this. He could have chosen to act out any other way, but as far as Law Enforcement is concerned, they saw the video. They know the guy is a danger. What they have to do right now is put this iron circle, unfortunately, around a three or four state area and start drawing that in. One more time just like every case like this you covers, its going to take the publics help. Theyll have to look for the car, the man, and the police are going to have to use all the technology they can bring to bear. All right. Clint van van, thank you. If you have any information tied to this ask youre asked to call 1800callfbi. This is fax tiling day. And trump is refusing to e release his returns. The last president who didnt do it, nixon. Well talk to Elizabeth Warren about that. First Kristen Welker is at the white house. Reporter today President Trump heads to wisconsin where he finds an executive order in cracking down on abuses in guest worker programs. The president is taking heat for calling the controversial leader of turkey overnight and for his refusing to release his taxes now under a new microscope since tax day this morning critics blasting President Trump for calling the president of turkey after a vote greatly expanded his powers. The move taking a different tone than the state department which urged turkey in the fight against isis to respect the rights of his citizens. Meanwhile the president also under fire once again for refusing to release his taxes. The white house suggesting he may never. You always talk about under audit, the president is under audit. Is it times to say once and for all the president is never going to release his tax returns . Well, i have to get back to you on that. I think that hes still under audit. The statement still stands. Reporter but the president s decision facing backlash with protests across the country over the weekend and monday some of President Trumps people forced to defend him, including tim cotton. Now he says the election has has happened and he doesnt need to as far as i know, the president says hes still under audit. Reporter just one of the controversial decisions that has republicans worried there could be a ripple effect. Today all eyes are on the special election in georgia. In a crowded field of 18 candidates, 30yearold Democrat John is leading the pack. The documentary film maker and former congressional aide potentially the best chance to win a seat long held by republicans. The eyes of the nation are on us. Reporter President Trump recording this robo call. Liberal democrats from outside of georgia are spending millions and millions of dollars trying to take your republican congressional seat away from you. Dont let them do it. Reporter hes raked in money much of it from out of state donations. E ausoff. Whats at stake here . This is an opportunity for this community to take a statement about what we believe in. Reporter and republicans are feeling the heat. The gop candidate telling us. They pinned their hopes and dreams on one candidate. Is that how it feels here . I think so. Theyre going to be disappointed, i think. Reporter republicans have dominated in the district for decades. In fact, candidate trump won against Hillary Clinton there. Underscoring the urgency, President Trump tweeted about this race moments ago. He said Democrat John ossoff would be weak on crime and illegal immigration, bad for jobs and wants higher taxes. Say no. In order to win outright, ossoff needs 50 of the vote. All right. Kristen welker, thank you. Elizabeth she has positioned herself as a leading voice of the trump opposition. Shes written a new book called the this fight is our fight. Why dont we start with the race in georgia. The seat has long been held by republicans. If john ossoff can manage to win there, do you see it as democrats having a path back from a very battered state . I think that the real energy right now is on the democratic side. And the independent side. Its people who say i want to make my voice heard. I wrote this book about the long arc, about how america once invested in the middle class, built and strengthened a middle class, and then how trickle down economics came along and took the legs out. The bookends on the note of how we get engaged. I think thats whats going on in georgia. People are getting democracy is no longer something that happens once every four years or even once every two years if you pay close attention. Democracy is whats happening out there all the time now. Lets talk about tax day. The president not releasing his tax returns. His logic is straightforward. This was an issue in the campaign. I won the campaign. Issue over. The issue is not over. He promised during the campaign that he would reveal his taxes. In fact, how many clips have you got here . He would reveal them after this, after that, then put it off. Do you think he ever will . I dont know. I think people are going to keep demanding and keep demanding it and making their voices heard on this. Look, why is it the case that people at the very top should get a bunch of tax breaks, should be able to hide their business dealings when everybody else pays . Everybody else gets out there and makes our roads and bridges work, makes our lets see what donald trump is up to. This book is all about taking the fight to donald trump, but in recent days hes done a 180 on a host of issues. I could name them. On putin, on chinas currency policy, the exim bank. Do you look at it as a sign of improvement . Are you willing to give him credit for that . Let me frame this slightly differently. The real question here is who does government work for . Does government once worked for hardworking families. It once worked for the middle class. Whats happened since about the 1980s forward is the hand full of billionaires and bankers and folks, ceos of giant corporations, seized our government and have made it inch by inch work better and better for those at the top and less and less for everyone else. Throughout your career. Youve been reaching out to the little guy, the middle class, the person who doesnt seem to catch a break. And donald trump beat you at your own game in the last election. Donald trump figured out people are angry. And theyre right to be angry. Theyre angry because their kids cant get an education without getting crushed by student loan debt. Theyre angry because their kids dont graduate into good jobs in this economy. Theyre angry because people cant retire with dignity. The difference is that what donald trump did is said its their fault, its somebody else. He has hacked other groups, and what hes now done is put a bunch of billionaires and bankers in charge who are making every part of that worse. In the past youve said all of this about donald trump, and theres more. You described him as dangerous, dishonest, said he embraced bigotry hook line and sinker. Find common ground, count me in. Im ready to put it aside if hell pass things that are helpful. 89 days in, which Elizabeth Warren is sitting in front of me, the one who thinks all those other things about donald trump or the one who wants to work with him . The its both. This is about the people of america. Ly fight for them. Donald trump said during the campaign that he was willing to break up the big banks. Separate Investment Banking from ordinary Checking Account savings account banking. Make the system safer. He said he was. I already have a bill on that. A bill with maria cantwell, john mccain and another. I say come on, donald trump, you want to do this, lets do the bill. Your economic adviser said the its a good idea. Im there to do it. Because donald trump, in many ways, is not the core issue. The core issue is how we get this government to work for the american people. Getting people in that fight and making our voices heard. And senator, a lot of people are saying what this book is about is launching the president ial campaign of Elizabeth Warren. Now, its tradition to be coy about that in washington. But where is your mind about that . Are you 50 50 . Where do you stand . Are you likely to run . No. This is not what im doing. This is my 11th book. My lifes work is about whats happening to working families across this country. Okay, but did you say no, not likely to run . I am running in 2018 for senator from massachusetts. I am deeply blessed that the deep of the commonwealth sent me to washington to fight for them, and thats what ill keep on doing. A lot of people are printing up bumper stickers for 2020 youre not biting. I get it. Let the transcript reflect silence. Good to be here. We move now to growing tensions over north korea. According to research, it takes just one blistering sunburn at a young age to more than double your chance of developing melanoma later in life. Did you know that in most states students need a doctors note just to bring sunscreen to school . The its a rule that doesnt sit well with a lot of parents who are fighting to most parents wouldnt dream of letting their kids play outside in the sun without applying sunscreen, but thats exactly whats happening in schoolyards nationwide. Even scarier thought, each year about 500 children are diagnosed with melanoma. In fact, its the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in people between the ages of 15 and 29. A pediatric dermatology at seattle Childrens Hospital and father of fiveyearold twin boys says prevention is key. If we want to protect our kids from sunburns and we want to prevent the incidents of melano melanoma, theyre at school outside. Why cant parents protect their kids by sending them with a bottle of food screen. The fda considers it an over the counter drug. In orderer to send it or have a teacher or nurse lotion, you need a doctors note. The first time i was asked for a prescription for sunscreen, i was shocked. Washington is taking steps to change it. A bill is heading to the governors desk and is expected to be signed into law. Jessie learned about the policy that prevented staff from applying sunscreen to students in 2012 when she says her 11 and 9yearold daughters came home from a field day event at school with Second Degree burns. It was horrifying to see her bright red face. There were welts. She was swollen. Reporter the bill will allow School Personnel to help apply sunscreen but doesnt require them to do so. Supporters including the School Nurses organization of washington say that legislation is a sensible solution that will prevent kids from getting burned. Giving more parents the power to protect their little loved ones from the dangers of the sun. And once the bill is signed Washington State joins five other states. California, new oregon and texas with laws that allow students to allow sunscreen on campus. It seems common sense. I was surprised you need a prescription. In Washington State i was thinking well, theres not that much sun there, but again, some of the highest rates of skin cancer are in Washington State. For little kids, somebody has to apply it. It could be a burden for teachers. And nurses and schools. Just ahead, youre going to like this, putting the m back in mtv. Wait until you hear whats coming back. I think i just gave a big hint. The bassinet is a smart one. It rocks and plays white noise if he cries. Do you go away for the weekend. He sleeps 11 hours a night, knock on wood. I swadling. I think it looks like torture, but he is happy. Look at him. And this is brian. If youre brian, theres nothing better. Theres no better way to start your day. Its pure love. I have need one of those. Whats the deal, brian got new shirts . Yes. Brian is very youll recognize these shirts. Take a look. I dont know if we can zoom into these shirts at all. Theyre all not the top right one. That is just popsicles. But theyre all based on the sand lot. One has hot dogs and the beast. Did he order these . He loves summer for whatever reason. So he found the this website. Its called, i dont know the roosevelts or something. Theres wendy peppercorn on another one of his shirts. This is the question. Will you get matching outfits for brian and calvin . If they had baby versions of these shirts, they would match every single day, i think. Deborah, when nick was smaller, she got matching swim trunks for us. Did you like dressing up with nick . I did. I think its adorable. And he was at an age where he didnt think it was dorky. He kind of liked it. Great. Do it while you can. We went on vacation once and i got the family matching hawaiian shirts. How many ears have you been covering that . I think about 16 years. Did you ever bring your kids . I have. Nick has come. Lela has no desire. And kourtney had no desire. Nick likes going. The tell us about its first of all, i think after the today show, at 9 00, its the most important show on television, i think. Its not really on television. Its on the electric internet the kids watch, and its what we call on the service. The whole idea is science is very important to our society. This is how we all eat. Its how we communicate. The its what were doing right now. We have electronic camera machines as a result of our discoveries in science. We want everybody in the world to be aware of fundamentals in science, so were doing a show on it. Its cool. You are going to quiz us. Yes, of course. Yes. We have rehearsed and rehearsed this. By that, i mean, we have never rehearsed this, but my understanding is were going to have a quiz. It will become obvious shortly. Its whether things are myths or facts. These are things that believe it is up to you, the on camera professionals to come up with your strong opinion about the truth or the myth. Yes. Punch it. There are more visits to Emergency Rooms during full moons than any other threeday period of any other month. Myth or fact . I say fact. Absolute freaking myth. I thought more babies are born during full moon . A false perception. By the way, what is the phase of the moon right now . Nobody knows. Its daytime, its not up. But there was a time when everybody knew the phase of the moon. It was something you had to know. Thats when the light was out and you could conduct certain operations. Now but you electric lights, we dont bother. There are more stars in the sky than grains of sand on a beach . Al, okay. Thats not what i meant. Why dont you all agree . Well, it sounds so ridiculous that i feel like we dont know how many stars there are in the sky, but we could find out how much sand. Im saying myth because its ridiculous. There are about 100 times more star in the sky than grains of sand on the earth. This is the whole thing. The extent of creation, this is to say the extent of the cosmos is amazing. One more. Water drains the other way in australia. Myth. Fact. It is factish. You can overwhelm it with your swirl of your hand, but when you get a storm, al, when you get storm big enough, hundreds of nautical miles across, it goes clockwide in the southern hemisphere, what they call, we call it counterclock wise. Its because of the cross product of the two vectors of acceleration of gravity and spin of the earth. That thing. Its not magic, people, its science. Yes. Bill nye. Thank you so much. Were talking about james spader who plays red redding ton. He is searching for his associate who appeared to be the source of the ultimate betrayal. This is bringing his past to the surface. Take a look. Mans greatest enemy is the dark forces pent up within himself. But not for me. My dark forces had a name. The person i entrusted with the most heinous offenses of my every trespass i committed, expounded, cleansed as if it had never happened. James, good morning. Good morning. Hello. You know, a sevenweek hiatus. When we last saw you i was doing the same thing im doing now. It seemed to be a betrayal by reds most trusted associate. Where do we find red when we pick up for the premier . Searching for him. You know, i think that reddingtons relationship with dembai, theyre so entwined. Hes his better half, to a degree. And all that as being the guilty direction. But i think reddington wants to find him just because he cant fathom how that could be, and, therefore, if that is the case, then he needs to know how. How that could possibly be. Hes been under siege now . Yeah, for quite some time. From all these different directions. What can you tell us . We hear during the twohour episode, we go into reds past. What do we find out . You know, this episode thats upcoming, the second half of the its a twohour episode, but the second half of it, it is probably it probably delves into the past more than any other episode that weve shot on the show. And so even though it relates to other instance, there was an episode that felt sort of like a oneoff last year with reddington on the beach, and this sort of cathartic moment in his sort of storyline. And this is the same in that its a very cathartic time in terms of whats happening in reddingtons life, therefore, everyone around him in a sphere of influence. But in this episode, you all of a sudden start to see, and it starts to make sense, some of the things youve wondered about the past, and about these characters and how they relate to one another. And i think its successful in that way. Do you agree, al . Youve seen it. Ive seen it. It answers a number of questions, but in ways that you did not expect. I would say. Right. Which is very fsatisfying. Its hard. Its a balance in this show. You know, you cant just string an audience ever and ever and expect them to be patient and still compelled. And therefore, you must give them things. What you hope is that as you give them things, that they become hungrier for Something Else and for more. And i think weve been fairly successful at that. And i think that but you also have to be able to put stories on the shelf for a little bit. You cant just keep pursuing the same story or youre going to get to the end of that story rapidly, and, therefore, you have to have the ability on a show to put something on the shelf and let it sit there for a little bit and go off and have fun. Have which you have done with this. I will tell people, it is one of the most satisfying two hours you will spend, especially if youre a fan. The only thing is if you had a tv weather host as a guest. Im just saying. Boy, did i worms . Yes, you did. James spader, thank you so much.
