Taxpayers may need to make a down payment tweeting sunday eventually but at a later date so we can get started early mexico will be paying in some form for the badly needed border wall. But democrats taking a hard line against funding the wall. The wall is, in my view, immoral, expensive, unwise. Reporter some republicans warning against letting the issue shut down the government. The last thing we can afford is to send a message to the world that the United States government, by the way, is only partially functioning. Reporter this comes as the white house is also aiming to resuscitate the failed effort at health care reform. Were hopeful for this week but, again, its not something that has to happen in order to define our success. Matt, avenue tha matt, savannah. Kristen welker at the warehouwhite house. The world is reacting to a vote in france. Nbcs chief Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel is in paris for us. Hi, richard, good morning. Reporter good morning, salve. That french voters rejected the establishment. 11 candidates have been whittled down to two and the ruling parties that have governed in france from the left and right for decades were thrown out. Amid high security, millions came out to vote across france. Turnout was 78 in whats considered the most important election in decades. It was a nailbiter. Too close to call until the results came in Emmanuel Macron is the frontrunner to be the french president. This is his first campaign. Supporters are hoping the 39yearold banker from the center left can bring a new life we will win it. He promised. Long live france. He faces his polar opposite, Marine Le Pen from the far right. Trailing by just a few percent, le pen is antiimmigration, wants out of the eu, to drop the euro and has been taking a page from the strategy book of President Trump. Its time for the french people to be free of the arrogant elite she said. Promising to close borders and stop terrorism. The two candidates both face each other in a runoff in two weeks. Analysts say macron has the clearest path to victory and following trump may have worked against le pen. Trump was a counterexample. People have been looking at the whats happening in the u. S. With very critical eye. Reporter with two weeks to go, france is at a cross roads. There has been a trend in Global Politics towards nationalism, first with brexit, then nationalism. France could be where that trend comes to an end. Matt and savannah, back to you. There is new tension the between the u. S. And north korea. The regime is threatening to sink a u. S. Aircraft carrier and over the weekend it detained an american citizen and he was preparing to leave that country. Nbcs koelly cobiella is in seoul, south korea. Reporter leaders from japan and china speaking to President Trump by phone. The chinese leader urging restraint on all sides as the u. S. U. S. Skarl vinson comes closer to the Korean Peninsula and the north koreas hold a third american citizen. College student otto warmbier. Business kim dong which you will and now an american troef. Tony k Pyongyang Airport airport leaving the country after several weeks of Service Teaching and that his detention is not connected with his work at the university. The Associated Press says kim is in his 50s, was doing aid work and was with his wife at the airport when the North Koreans took him away. Another bargaining chip says ambassador Bill Richardson who is working on warmbiers case. Weve been able to deal with the father and the grandfather in the old regime but under kim jongun he detains americans, hes detained three now but we dont know what he wants in return. He doesnt communicate on that level. Reporter instead, more threats. The regime sunday warni ining i combat ready to sink a u. S. Aircraft carrier and threatening australia with a nuclear strike. As Vice President mike pence wrapped up a twoday trip there, the Vice President also talking tough. All options are on reporter this morning, as the u. Ss carl vinson heads towards north korea, south korea says its talking to washington about holding joint drills. The region on edge, unsure what north koreas Supreme Leader will do next. Theres been a lot of speculation and concern that north korea could carry out either its sixth nuclear test or a missile test sometime this week. China has warned north korea not to do either. Meantime, we have that big me meeting at the white house today. 15u8 memb all 15 members of the United Nations Security Council set to visit. Matt, savannah . Kelly, thank you very much. Nikki haley, the u. S. Ambassador to the United Nations joins us now. Ambassador haley, good morning to you. Good morning. I want to take about that american being held in a second but when you take that incident and combine it with a threat to sink a u. S. A threat to strike australia, when you and your counterparts meet at the white house this morning, what can you possibly come up with to rein in north korea that hasnt been tried in the past and hasnt already failed in the past . I think what youre seeing is kim jongun is starting to flex his muscles because he feels the pressure. Last week the Security Council unanimously condemned what north koreas doing with their testing. China has been considerably helpful in putting pressure on him and hes just trying to show his strength to the people of his country. Its not going to work. But weve been talking about containing north korea for decades now and its not working. What can you come up with . Well, working with china for the first time, they have really been our partner in trying to make sure wehold him at bay and i think its a new day when you have china and the United States working together on a statement to condemn north korea. Theyve put pressure on him. He feels it, thats why hes responding this way and i think it is a different day. What we have said from the say is the United States is not looking for a fight so dont give us a reason to have one. Its interesting you say that. You said you think hes responding to the pressure by flexing muscle, by conducting more nuclear tests. I dont have to tell you, you have a very unstable adversary there. Does the tough talk and the rhetoric, things like mr. Trump saying if china doesnt help us here, well do it ourselves, we may consider a preemptive strike coming from administration officials, do you ever worry about the point of no return with words . Well, i think no. Thats not the case. And keep in mind hes trying to get the confidence of his own people so when he does these things, hes not necessarily doing them to all of us as much as hes trying to prove to his own people he can handle this. Hes very much feeling the pressure. I think youre starting to see him get paranoid and i think youre seeing pressure come from all parts of the International Community and i think we have to keep the pressure up. I think what savannah is getting at, madmb unstable as kim jongun, do you worry words might force him into a catastrophic mistake . No, and i think if you look at what is happening now, if theres a catastrophic mistake its going to be because hes continuing to try to ins kate an issue. Well continue to be stable and to have the International Community stable. Its the reason why none of us are even trying to pick a fight with him. But well have to wait and see, what i can tell you the International Community is very united. Ambassador haley, every single leader says all options are on the table, they always say that. Is a preemptive strike against north korea really being considered . Is the administration actively planning for that . We are not going to do anything unless he gives us reason to do something. Whats that reason . Our goal is not to start a fight. What would that reason be . Do you have that threshold in your mind . Well, if you see him attack a military base, if you see some sort of intercontinental that. But were saying dont try to do any more actions and i think hes understanding that. Let me make sure i understand what you said. If he tests another intercontinental blil aal balli missile, you say obviously were going to do that. Do you mean military retaliation . I think the president steps in and decides whats going to happen. Let me ask you real quickly before i leave. Do you have any more information on this american being detained . His whereabouts or why he was detained . Its very hard to get information out of north korea, obviously, but were doing everything that we can. You know, this makes three detainees that they have right now and again this is him trying to pick a fight with us and what were going to have to do is work very hard to find out information and see what we need to do to get these three out safely. Ambassador nikki haley. Ambassador haley, always nice to see you, thank you very much. Thanks so much. Breaking overnight, u. S. Defense secretary jim mattis making an unannounced afghanistan as the Trump Administration is weighing sending more u. S. Troops to that country. His visit comes three days after a Taliban Attack on a Northern Afghanistan Army base. It killed at least 100 people there. Kabul is the final stop on secretary mattis sixnation tour intended to bolster relations with allies and partners. Reporter cummins is scheduled to be arraigned in sacramento on federal kidnapping charges. His sister says he doesnt believe he kidnapped elizabeth. I asked him why. Why would he do this . And the answer he gave me is that she wanted to run away and she wanted to leave. And he didnt want her to go alone and so he went with her so he could know she was safe. Reporter the 15yearold and her former teacher were found with more than 2,000 miles away in a remote cabin in Northern California with no electricity or running water, a camping stove, food, toilet paper and two beer cans. N. Security council. Overnight, workers in new orleans began taking down the first of four confederateera landmarks that were set to be removed across the city. This was done at night to avoid protests from supporters of the landmark. The mayor says hes committed to taking down three more statues in the coming days now that legal challenges to their removal have been overcome. And congrats to nasas peggy whitson, she said another record. The 57yearold spent the most cumulative time in space by any american astronaut, 535 days and counting. She already holds the record for most space walks by a woman with eight. Shes also the first woman to command the space station. President trump is calling whitson this morning to congratulate her. Thats an incredible number of days in space. Any astronaut. Can you imagine connecting that call . Can you hear me now . In arkansas caught on camera. Take a look. You can see a little girl fall out of the back of a moving van. It keeps going as the man who filmed it races into action. Its a scene almost unimaginable. An emts dash cam rolling as the doors of a driving church van swing open. A fouryearold girl seen falling out of the back on to a highway. It was unbelievable. As the car slows down, the girl lies motionless. The driver and another motorist rushing to her aide. Once i picked her up and put her in my arms it was heartbreaking. She just had this horrified look on her face. I just had to not think about my family and my children and focus on her. I. Ciampoli says he was at the right place at the right time and as a licensed emt and volunteer firefighter the 31yearold would never normally move a trauma patient but in this case he had to make a quick decision for her i wouldnt risk further damage to her by a vehicle hitting her or one or us or any of the other bystanders on the scene. I had to take action and get her out of that road. Ciampoli says the driver of the bus, unaware of what happened, returned about 15 minutes later. The young girl was rushed to the hospital where she was treated for a broken jaw and was later released, expected to make a full recovery. As an emt, he says hes trained to handle these situations but watching it happen right there in front of him was hard to take. Nothing hurts worse or makes you stay up a night longer than dealing with a child, especially holding her in your arms and youll never get that image out of your head. Ciampoli, being hailed as a hero, is simply grateful for the outcome. I was in the right place at the right time and im blessed shes okay. He says he has been in contact with the girls family who thanked him. When you think about just a broken jaw d thats incredible. The right guy was following. Doing the right thing and i dont mean to go in a weird direction here, but you know how many people text and drive . Imagine if you had been a distracted driver and pulled up into that scene. Incredible. Al, you got my hometown on your map . Unfortunately, for not the right reasons. We have fire danger out there. Florida is out of danger but looking at the southwest fire weather watches and red flag warnings, 20 to 30 mile per hour wind gusts. Up to 45 mile per hour wind gusts and its bone dry, relative humidity 5 to 15 . You can see we have some system trying to work its way together. What it is going to do is bring snow up into the dakotas as this system pushes to the east, colder air drawn in behind it. A mix of rain and snow and then it makes its way into missouri into oklahoma causing problems there. Rest of the country we have that flood threat along the southeast. Sunshine southwest in plains. Thats whats going on around the country. Heres whats happening in your neck of the woods. Good monday morning, make sure you have the umbrella before you leave. Areas of light showers around now, especially towards 81 but more rain to the south and this is going to be some steady rain later on this afternoon. Tomorrow as well. The latest is an altercation between a Flight Attendant, a mom and other passengers on an american flight. This on the heels of the muchseen dragging incident on the united flight. Well talk to the attorney representing that passenger but nbcs tom costello is here. Good morning, tom. Reporter mesh quickly apologized for this latest incident involving a Flight Attendant on friday, that in contrasts to uniteds ini airline is investigating an incident captured on video. A female passenger hysterically crying while holding her child on board an American Airlines flight from San Francisco to dallas. The woman allegedly clashing with a male Flight Attendant over whether she could bring her stroller on board. You cant use violence with babies. Just give me back my stroller, please. Reporter witnesses said the Flight Attendant violently ripped the stroller away, accidentally striking the woman and narrowly missing her child. You almost hurt a baby reporter later, another passenger tried to intervene. Hey, bud, you do that to me and ill knock you flat. You stay out of this. Reporter not backing down, the two men got into a screaming match, nearly coming to blows. We all were in shock, it was a pretty it was pretty insane. Ive traveled quite a bit. The lack of professionalism from that Flight Attendant and the fact that you had this crying woman and her two and it was just it was a scene that was just kind of surreal. Reporter in a statement, American Airlines says what we see on this video does not reflect our values or how we care for our customers. We are deeply sorry for the pain we have caused this passenger and her family and to any other customers affected by the incident. After arriving in dallas, the airline suspended a Flight Attendant and upgraded the woman to a first class seat for her flight home to argentina, offering her a 1,000 travel voucher. This latest incident coming two weeks after this nowfamous scene on a united flight. Oh, my god what are you doing . Reporter passenger dr. David dow was dragged off when he refused to give up his seat for commuting crew members causing a Public Relations fiasco. Dr. Dao suffered a broken nose, two broken teeth, sinus injuries and a concussion. Three Airport Security officers were suspended and the united ceo has apologize. I want to apologize to our customers. Again,wa across various areas. There was never a consideration for firing an employee. Reporter the Union Representing americans Flight Attendant is urging the public not to jump to conclusion saying it appears another passenger may have threatened the Flight Attendant with violence which is a violation of federal law and no small matter. Meanwhile, united telling nbc news in a fresh statement it cant apologize enough for the shameful way dr. Dao was treated. That brings us to the attorney for dr. David dao, the passenger dragged off the united flight. Mr. Dimitriou, good morning. And i understand this woman with americans contacted you. Are you representing her . I am. What did she tell you about what happened . Well, the video we saw is a microcosm of the entire problem. Weve got a Flight Attendant out of control. Weve got a distressed mother. Protect that mother. But in the background we see the pilot and the pilot is concerned. The pilot when we get on an airplane, we sort of want our pil pilot to be calm, cool, collected as he takes off oar she takes off into the skies. So this is a real, real problem and the mother told me point blank her concern was her child who almost got hit by the stroller, did not, but almost got hit by the stroller. Did she get hit by the stroller . She did not. She did not. But her fright, if you will, and you hear her wailing, is because her child almost did. Theres a big difference here in that American Airlines has come out immediately saying we are sorry. This is not the way we behave. Thats different than the way united handled your other highprofile case with dr. Dao. First of all, how is dr. Dao doing emotionally and physically . Hes hurt both. Hes hurt. And heea set go ahead. Hes of the mindset that this is an example and the American Airlines incident an example of why we need fairness, dignity, and being treated right. The reason the dr. Dao video resonates with people is because weve all been in a seat about to take off and if somebody comes up and says you have to get out of that seat we would react. Is there another piece of video, tom, that explains how this escalated to this point . D there may be. I dont have it but im hoping with all the passengers on that plane well eventually have it. Were hoping dr. Dao being taken off that plane like a sack of potatoes is going to resonate with people in this latest incident with American Airlines will resonate wit video so corporations have to take heed. Once and for all, because we all recall that united in the initial days stated that your client, dr. Dao, had been belligerent and disruptive. Setting aside whether or not that would in any world justify what happened, was he belligerent . Was he disruptive . No. Theres other video that does show that. Hes calmly in his seat. He was his ticket was accepted, scanned, he boarded, he was seat belted and all the video shows him quietly saying i want to go home, im not getting off. And interestingly you cant do that. After someone is in their seat, thats not the time to say were overbooked, we need to get an employee from point a to point b. Has United Airlines made you and dr. Dao an offer. Are you negotiating with a settlement . Thats not happening right now. How much would a facetoface apology from the airlines, how far would that go with dr. Dao . Probably not very far. He had mr. Munoz had that opportunity to publicly first of all apologize and he didnt and then he called the doctor belligerent. Then he finally said mea culpa. So i think were past that stage of nemeeting dr. Municipaloz to anything. Lawsuits coming in the united incident and the american incident . I dont know about the american incident, united, yeah. Thomas demetros, thank you very much. Dont take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. If you had a spinal injection while on eliquis call your doctor right away if you have tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness. While taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily. And it may take longer than usual for bleeding to stop. Seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding, like unusual bruising. Eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines. Tell your doctor about all planned medical or dental procedures. Eliquis treats dvt and pe blood clots. So you get the glue and stick them on . The next trick is look for a band thats clear so if you can get a tight shot of what im holding. One side you can see has a black band where the lashes are adhered and this side is a clear band. When you pick up a black band the problem is if you apply it crookededly you can see and it wont when it comes to glue be aware if you have a latex allergy. There are latexfree options. Another tip when you apply the glue to the lash, dont apply it on top of the band the way most people do, i ply it to the underside because thats the part that sits on your lash and that gets it to stick. Can a regular person put those on properly . Yes, look at this. This is called a fish tail tweezer with these funny tonglike ends. This allows you without using something scary like tweezers to get a good grip and press the lashes into your natural ones so the glue sticks. And if you like the individuals, no president big band. Just little strips. Flirt cosmetics cranks out these mini individual strips and you just stick them on. Mary makeup room. I dont know what you are talking about but you say these are magnetically applied . Yes, teeny tiny magnet trips. This is 1 2 cosmetics. Youll see the black lines are magnets. Whats it sticking to . Its like a sandwich over your eyelashes so sara is great at applying these. She is going to show you how without any blue she just applied the bottom piece and shes done. This is such a revolutionary idea. You have to experiment to get the hang of it but certain eye shades will require more work. So this is if you want to get eyelash extensions. Who do we have . This is courtney who i love. She is between new york and dallas and very in demand. She shows up every week to maintenance but we get a full set. Here we are on karine. So youre doing an eyelash extension. And what does that mean . So basically its individual one by one you attach either one or a technique where you can put two to six lightweight lashes. If you had to guess how many lashes are on karines eye . 200 . I would say 5,000. How many did you apply . I basically applied the very fine one to each individual lash so theres a lot of lashes but theyre individually separated so each lash is separated . How much does this cost . Ballpark. It depends on where you go. 99 for a full set and seek out a licensed professional because youre dealing with the eye area. And how often redo this . About the natural length of your lash cycle. Three to four weeks. All good things we can do. For more beauty tips and tricks, follow todays style on instagram. Up next, the best of broadway, the week will kick off with the cast of amelie. Im lovable and loud. Sheinelle and i were like, okay. Lots of energy and you wont have a problem hearing me. Its interesting because we were just talking about you. You made headlines when you posted this epic instagram photo. Whats the story here. Are we getting new fresh prince episodes . Oh, god no. [ laughter ] wrong answer can we start over . Its not possible. Karen parsons, who played hillary on the show, has a Wonderful Charity called sweet blackberry and she auctioned off a lunch with the fresh prince cast so wonderful families from england actually bought it and flew over t bet that a picture of us together. Thats a long flight for lunch. Well, you know, it was a good lunch. It was really good. I wonder when you win an auction. Do they fan and try to get to know you . How does that work . The ones that ive done typically everybody seems to be really fun and cool and theyre just so excited. This family was really kind of just like in that, like, oh, my god mode. Like i dont know what to say. And so we were kind of but were so good at recognizing that that we continue to engage and warm them up. But they were a sweet couple. So they were really big fans of Big Bang Theory and i gave them all the information. So we get together and the reason why i say well never do any episodes again you seem so sure. Because the show doesnt work without james avery. Fair enough. And with his passing it ju just fair enough. You know, its like having music and its all treble. Got to have the bass. Reruns are on all the time. The way you set it up is there is nothing else on and you watched us. Like it kind of hurt but still felt good. When you spin it its like, all right, its a guaranteed i always get the ones where people are like it was like 2 00 in the morning and i came home from a club and i watched you till 4 00. Like, dude, sleep. Go to sleep. It holds a special place in all of our hearts. Speaking of magic, how about your magic feet . Magic feet . Dancing with the stars. You were recently on there. It was really interesting. The casting director producer dana katz called me and said, you know, we want to do something weve never done, a disney night and theyve never done an opening number if a song thats never been done so they wrote a song specifically for this and had me come and sing it and dance. You sing. Its always fun to do sure it sounds good. But we were very happy. They seemed happy. I told you this thing earlier. Hes a perfectionist. Im critical of myself. Dont even tell anybody. Nobody will notice. It was perfect. There was one flat note. [ laughter ] it was perfect. I was flat once and, like, my my but thats me. Thats me. It was perfect. Is it 100 perfect . If not, im always like well, youre you. You get mad at yourself. But thats why you keep Getting Better and better because youre hard on yourself. You keep working. I always i work really hard to make myself happy. If i do something to make me happy, if im singing and dancing and i do it for me and im happy then i feel like the audience will be happy. What about when youre hosting a show where the job is to just be happy and everybody laughs like americas funniest like that job to me is the perfect job bauds i go to work everyday and i love everyday. Laughing at these people and theyre wonderful people that send in videos and you get to laugh at them. Have you seen the ones we have prepared . Im sure ive seen all the videos but weve got this adorable baby playing with a cute little toy right. So well look at this one. Thats the dogs toy, you know that, right . [ baby screams ] that face oh, my god. Now we have this husband going only halfway. He opens the garage door halfway for his wife as theyre coming into the garage. This to me is hysterical because oh you know, two thing there is, two things. One, why didnt he just open it the whole and, two, why didnt she open her eyes . Oh oh [ laughter ] she walked in like what . Why did you i guess shes okay. And i wonder who sent in the video, him or her . Oh, i believe thats a good question. I dont remember, i think it was probably him. Weve seen those videos 100 times but every time you laugh. Ive seen those videos and im still laughing. I remember when i was younger wherever i would hurt myself or i remember one time i jumped up on a piece of wood and there was a nail sticking out and i hurt my finger, it went through my finger and my dad initially just started laughing at me because and then i laughed, i dont cry, i dont freak out. And its funny to watch people get hurt. As long as they dont hurt. Thats very important. We have the American Airlines incident, right . Yes, the latest incident. It was the shocking video, everybodys got cell phone video and it involved the Flight Attendant and the passengers and the video emerged this weekend and it was a Woman Holding a baby who was hysterically crying after an alleged crash with a male Flight Attendant on board with the American Airlines flight. So some witnesses reported the conflict that started when the Flight Attendant ripped the stroller away from her. It narrowly missed the child which we kind of see on the video. Then another passenger tried to intervene. Take a look. You cant use violence with baby. Just give me back my stroller, please. Hey, bud . Hey, bud . You do that to me and ill knock you flat. You stay out of this heres the thing. There was so much talk was it just last week, the united incident . A couple weeks now. So its interesting to me all of the flights have been on in the meantime before this one, i always found the Flight Attendants are in some ways extra nice and people are aware and Everybody Knows its bubbling. Since then, every flight is like me coming here, right . I flew from l. A. Yesterday and i was on american and, it happened to be delayed, it was something that happened and we had to go back to the gate and the pilot came out of the cockpit and had this amazing calm voice and was like, hey, everybody, i just want you to know that we have a little delay but i really appreciate everybodys patience. And it was like he just automatically calmed everybody down immediately and to be honest its like round of applause. That you can for finally doing that. Making us feel okay. And in this case american jumped in very quickly. American Airlines Says what we see on this video does not reflect our values or how we care o we are deeply sorry for the pain we have caused this passenger, our family and any other customers affected. And after arriving in dallas the airline suspended the Flight Attendant, upgraded the woman to first class for her flight home offering her a 1,000 travel voucher. Thats how they handle it quickly. And they should. You look at social media and you say theres great things and bad things about social media and everything that happens in the world as being exposed but its accountability. In your personal life im like, thats not okay but when youre talking about a business youre talking about a plight attendant whose job is Customer Care and they should be accountable. I love the fact that people are like ha ha gotcha. In a statement the Union Representing the airlines Flight Attendants urges the public not to jump to conclusion saying it appears another passenger may have threatened the flight a violation of federal law and no small matter so everybody weighed in. But thats the thing weve learned. But sometimes its like regardless of the circumstance, a round of applause for the passenger. Even though legally he was in the wrong of standing up and threatening its like, yo, dude, do not do that to people. Theres no reason to every grab anything out of a womans hand. You dont do it. Theres no reason and the reality is if he had done that to him in the street different game, playa. Can we end on a happy story . Kenny g. I love him. Still has the curls. Sox phonist kenny g. I talked to my doctor and found a missing piece in my asthma treatment with breo. Oncedaily breo prevents asthma symptoms. Breo is for adults with asthma not well controlled on a longterm asthma control medicine, like an inhaled corticosteroid. Breo wont replace a rescue inhaler for sudden breathing problems. Breo is specifically designed to open up airways to improve breathing for a full 24 hours. Breo contains a type of medicine that increases the risk of death from asthma problems and may increase the risk of hospitalization in children and adolescents. Breo is not for people whose asthma is well controlled on a longterm asthma control medicine, like an inhaled corticosteroid. Once your asthma is well controlled, your doctor will decide if you can stop breo and prescribe a different asthma control medicine, like an inhaled corticosteroid. Do not take breo more than prescribed. See your doctor if your asthma does not improve or gets worse. Ask your doctor if 24hour breo could be a missing piece for you. Bulletproof coffee so to speak and techniques like that help you stay satiate bud the caffeine will make you less hungry and it boosts your metabolism. Proteins. You dont put it on your hips as fat. Kale chips, you have to brag about kale. Love. The most underappreciated problem we have in america is sleep. Two hormones drive your hunger. One is called ghrelin, think of gremlin. Then theres leptin like a leprechaun, elevating your mood. When you dont sleep, you start to muck with this stuff and there are a couple foods we eat that cause the problem. Peppers. I eat a lot of peppers. Metabolism but if you have peppers before a meal you throw your sleep off a tiny bit. Then you add a little too much alcohol to the mix and watch what happens. Your ghrelin starts to skyrocket up. Then the number one biggest problem of all which is light. Light is toxic. Its not just that youre consuming media. You can read a book, this is fine. I keep it by my bed. Finally physical activity. It was a big event celebrating some of the most influential women in the spotlight. Sheinelle, we heard you got a chance to talk to them. It was amazing. On friday i caught up with serious power players from the screen to the stage, music and politics and you might say we partied with a purpose. They were honored by variety magazine at its Fourth Annual power of women new york event held at ciprianis. Take a look. Jessica chastain, blake lively, Chelsea Clinton, Audra Mcdonald. Variety magazine calling these ladies the definition of power. Were familiar with the names of the honorees and the influence they have, but todays award is about giving back. First up, leading chastain. Her work with planned parenthood. Its part of the reason where i am today. Im the first person in my family not to have a baby when i was a teenager. I am the first one to go to college in my family. The twotime Academy Award nominee is a powerful voice for women in hollywood. You have these characters that leap off the screen but youve learned how to say no. Its such a powerful tool. Its ridiculous that anyone in my industry or other industries that a woman with equal experience would receive less than her male counterparts and so its important for me to say no to jobs that offer that. Its about wanting equality in the workplace. You do this like i am woman hear me roar thing im trying to figure out. Even now because im so nervous i have to do a speech. No way before letting jessica go, i asked her two fun questions. What does your happy dance look like . Probably on screen star blake lively has two children with husband actor Ryan Reynolds but her goal is to help protect all children by supporting a nonprofit that tracks down online predators. Youve chosen to support the Child Rescue Coalition. Theyre the only proactive tool that can help stop child pornography which is really important because only 10 of children come forward. Often theyre too scared to. The Child Rescue Coalition can find the abusers without the child having to come forward so im so grateful to have this platform. But im also grateful to sit here and see these women who i look up to so much speak about what makes them safe. Oh, wow, cool. Name a song stuck in your head. Oh, moana my husband and i our daughter makes us listen to the sound track. Next, Chelsea Clinton honored for her work with the alliance for healthier generations founded in part by the foundation. Healthy eating is something i always cared about but being a mom and seeing how my daughter feels when shes had a healthier meal or not is just such a real world experience for me. We have worked with more than 21 million kids. We work to ensure its not just tater tots on the lunch menu but vegetables. Kids are not only being empowered over their own health but can be ambassadors for the whole familys health. Sixtime tony award winner Audra Mcdonald let it be known which charity is close to her heart. The cove innocent house nant charity for homeless children. We help them finish high school education, we love them, support them, and when they are ready they go out into the world. Im going to cry because if something were to happen to my kids id want to know there is a price like Covenant House for them. What makes you smile thats my 16yearold. Finally tina knowles lawson. Miss tina, as shes often called, received an award for keeping the arts in the community. The waco theater center. It stands for where art cans occur. Art is the way to express yourself and grow and dream big. Im mentor ago group of girls. Its been the best time of my life. Theres Nothing Better when you see a young person and you see that spark. When my kids were little. They went to community centers, they got to be in plays. Agd and i think if they had not had that experience we would havent them as our entertainers today. Easy, here we go. Okay, what keeps you going when you get knocked down . Whatever it is motivating each one of these honorees, one thing is clear, we are captivated by their power. I walked out like i was going to say, how inspiring. You go into cipriani and you just feel this energy and these women just enthuse empowerment and femininity and all those it says it. Its not even a word. They walk into a room and ive met a few of them in the past and you see them and they just have an inner power that is and a light that is wonderful to see. We should all try to get that. Have some. Thank you. Throw it my way. Coming up, the multitalented dule hill like youve never seen him before in his new movie. Well talk about what he has in common with alfonso. I didnt know. Their blast from the past right after this.
