This morning the russian government is denying that mr. Trump revealed anything classified. This is the Oval Office Meeting where President Trump reportedly shared highly protected information with the russian as i dont know if its accurate. If it is, it would be troubling. Its disturbing. Lets find out the details. Reporter as first reported, the president revealed classified secrets about an isis terror threat. It was passed along to the officials from russia without the allies permission. The disclosure potentially dep jazzing a critical source of intelligence on isis. Later summing up that information saying can you believe the world we live in today, adding isnt it crazy . Late monday the white house trying to down play the matter. The story that came out tonight as reported is false. Reporter the denial delivered by mcmaster lasted less than a minute. At no time were president did not disclose any military operations that were not already known. I was in the room. It didnt happen. That denial didnt address into the post reported including the detail after that mr. President trumps meeting senior officials tried to contain the fallout calling the cia and the National Security agency. The episode even more striking given his relentless criticism of Hillary Clintons handling of classified information during the campaign. I dont think its safe to have Hillary Clinton be briefed on National Security. Because the word will get out. We cant have someone in the oval office who doesnt understand the meaning of the word considerable or classified. Reporter democrats quick to pounce. There may be no law broken but the rules and norms have been crossed here, and the white house and the president owe the American People and the congress a full explanation. Senator, youre a lawyer. Youre used to having a critical eye. Now the denial coming from the administration in the person of hr. Mccaster said it didnt have. Quote, at no time were intelligence sources or methods discussed, and the president did not discuss any military operations that were not already publicly known. Is that the same thing as saying the president did not disclose highly classified intelligence . No. Very important question. He may well have disclosed highly the Washington Post reported, and that is a serious breach of norms and rules. And may well enable the russians who are our adversaries in that part of the world to trace sources and methods of information. If certain information is disclosed, and it can come from only a small number of sources, they can be narrowed down, and identified. And thats one of the real threats here. In addition to revealing that we have knowledge about a plot that seriously could endanger our own citizens who are flying planes and possibly jeopardized by the Laptop Computers. Senator, im sure youve read this post report carefully. Theres an intriguing line where it refers to a transcript of this conversation. Does that suggest to you that there perhaps was some kind of recording device in the oval office . Some kind of stenographer, and if there is a transcript j, is it Something Congress should get its hands on . The Congress Must subpoena transcripts or tapes. The only way to know whether there are such transcripts or tapes is to issue a subpoena, probably from the intelligence committee, and make sure that all of the evidence is provided to the appropriate members of congress. This is incredibly Sensitive Information about one of the most serious terrorist threats were facing. One that involves innovations around our security protocols at airports. And to undermine the trust and confidence we have with an ally that may be supporting giving us that information is potentially problematic. Can you clarify something . This concerns an isis plot. The russians are supposed to be our partners in fighting isis, so explain why the sharing of information with them is so dangerous. Two reasons. First of all, i think the president may think that hes trying to create a decree of trust, maybe cooperation on the ground. That may be in the back of his mind. The problem is the russians provided information in the past, theyve used it against us. In the summer of 2016 dmrks, the Obama Administration provided some information about what was happening on the ground. The russians attacked our proxies were working with. Thats a problem. Part of the challenge is how much can we trust the russians. What youre seeing is a deficit of trust, a deficit of discipline on the part of the president. If potentially this intelligence source is angry that this information has been revealed, feels it has been burned and that source dries up, not to overstate the case, but does that endanger American Security . Absolutely. One, the fact that were talk act this creates a problem. Put aside the russians. Isis is going to be looking for whatever the source is. Not to mention potentially the russians. Secondly, the russians now have an indication, perhaps, as to what were doing on the ground, where we are, and this ally may be having trouble working with talk about the political optics. This meeting happened the day after the president fired james comey who was overseeing the information into possible collusion between russians and pump associa trump soeshlassociate. And now he may have shared this information. It doesnt get much worse. My conversations with the white house have taken on a new feeling of exasperation. There were reports of strong winds in the area as the plane made it way from philadelphia to a small airport often used by private planes in and out of the new york area. We are looking right now at a risk of Severe Weather stretching from texas into omaha. 13 million folks at risk. Tornadoes likely. A few of them strong.
